  • 6:13 scream you SS bastard

  • Yes for shure. And the german tank commander stands like a tree in the tank while the englands shot... stupid germans thats all

  • did you see at 6:12 the guy been thrown out of the car epic fail

  • @jorcastify i think the bigger fail is 6:27. Where is that German car going LOL

  • This is one of the stupids attacks from the german troops i haver ever seen in a movie... Hollywood seems to think all german soldiers were idiots in WWII!

  • @seralia1 that attack actually happened. German armored troops DID attempt a crossing of the bridge, and were successfully repulsed. look at any aerial photos of the bridge during the battle: COVERED in trashed German APC's and trucks.

  • In real life there was a pillbox on the brdige, they mentioned a PIAT took it out in the book.

  • The makers of this film went to a lot trouble to make sure the film was historically accurate. I remember seeing this in the movie theater as boy in New Jersey when it was released. It's a world better historically compared to most of CGI crap coming out of Hollywood. Brave Heart comes to mind for those who know the bridge in that movie is not shown or mentioned. Crap history!

  • she does realize that there's something of a war going on, doesn't she?

  • This was my favorite part of the film!

  • man, that bit at the end of the German armored assault, where that Feldwebel tried to rescue the Commander but gets shot, is a real standout. it shows that even in Hitler's army, there were still friendships and concern for your fellows.

  • 4:45 reminds me of the road warrior

  • The banter between the Brits is just priceless. Gotta love them.

  • only a brit would bring an unbrella on a clear day.

  • @BeantownJim He carries it in case he forgets the password. He knows no Jerry would ever carry one.

  • Those are Brens they are firing? Because spraying Brens would waste your ammo very fast.

  • Yes the Germans would drive on the bridge realy slow like on a parade. And expose themselfs like that to enemy fire.BULLSHIT!

  • @Keisari70 Too fast and they wouldn't be able to hit anything.

  • @Keisari70 germans are always the dumb ones in films like these, they always outnumber the allied soldiers. also, they are perfectly equipped while the allied guy has a garand with two bullets left. yet he still manages to slaughter several german armies... its just hollywood.

but i have to say that in this film they get away quite good compared to other films.

  • @Keisari70 Actually that was an accurate historical assault. An SS column tried to make a fool's run at the other end of the bridge and were torn to pieces.

  • @Clonetrooper1139 Yes and we all know how Hollywood always stays true to facts.Btw I got the London bridge to sell you intrested mate? :)

  • @Keisari70 Why don't you read the book by Cornelius Ryan. Not interested in the London Bridge but if you have a bag of crumpets give me a ring.

  • Hmmm. Fighting back so many armored cars with handheld weapons?

Luckily, the Germans were standing upright and were driving really slowly.....

  • @wasistdaswasdasist Whether it's depicted in a Hollywood manner in this movie or not, fact is Frost's men on the bridge did blow up that ammo dump which set the reasonably fresh paint of the bridge on fire... and the next day they really stopped that German armoured column with their light arms. I have an aerial reconnaissance photo of that shot up column on the deck of the Arnhem bridge in a book about Market Garden to prove it - a rather messy and charred heep of mangled German steel!

  • @provocase well i spose the brits had to save face after michael wittman anniliated an entire british coloum single handedly with his tiger tank turning scores of british steel into soup..... well american steel that is you brits didnt really have any steel of your own worth mentioning... the cromwell??? lol yeah

  • @timebandit71 apart from balls of steel

  • @timebandit71 like the sherman Firefly, a sherman upgunned with a BRITISH AT gun, as American guns were useless?

  • @provocase but why would the german cross the bridge like that? the men on the vehicle were clearly so exposed!

  • @cherielsl What you see in this scene is just a movie rendition or interpretation. It's a dramatisation of an actual event. How it actually happened that day on the Arnhem bridge I cannot tell you. But I know if I had been in one of those vehicles that day I surely would not have exposed myself like that. But the fact remains John Frost's men stopped that German (lightly) armoured column (i.e. no heavy panzers) on that bridge... aerial reconnaissance photo's prove it.

  • @provocase

The time of that bridge attack actually lasted 2 hours.

In fact, the movie has taken many liberties. The real attack started with 4 German halftracks at the head of the column actually getting across the bridge and into Arnhem - so what really did happen was the rest of the armoured column thought that they were likely going to get across easily too.

The movie doesn't show the reality of where the German column was destroyed - The Brits opened up after much of the column got over.

  • @provocase

See my channel's featured clip on the battle for more real facts of the battle- including the five Airborne 6 pounder anti-tank guns the Brits had at the bridge perimeter - two of which helped destroy that first bridge attack.

  • @cherielsl

They ran into a well timed ambush by the variety of Airborne units - most of the vehicles were actually destroyed once they got past the bridge..... they were following 4 of their vehicles that actually went across without being fired upon - in the real battle.

  • @PanakaStigLitz loads of them were shot before they hit the ground why these films allways try to make the germans look stupid?and have you noticed these days we never say the germans its allways the nazis

  • @september7891

Not really..... it's actually the neonazis who try to insinuate that all Germans in WW2 were Nazis. It shows how brainwashed and stupid neonazis are; the fact is only 10% of Germans at most were actual Nazi Party members....... and the Nazis killed or persecuted hundreds of thousands of Germans who were deemed 'anti-Nazis in WW2.

This movie did show silly prejudice in making the British look like having fun at the beach until things got bad.

  • @provocase

There were also 2 AT guns that the British had in the bridge perimeter that helped destroy that column attack too..... the movie doesn't show them. See my channel clip about the battle

  • @wasistdaswasdasist you've clearly never seen armored Military vehicles on the move. not exactly speed demons. the top speed of the Panzer units was 30 Mph. those armored cars and halftracks were designed to support the panzers, and so didn't run much faster. and this actually happened. look it up. In a BOOK, if possible.

  • stupid old hag needs to shut her mouth

  • Wow. You have James Bond, Alfred 'The Butler', and Hannibal Lecter in the same movie? AWESHUM.

  • Wow. You have James Bond, Alfred 'The Butler', and Hannibal Lecter in the same the movie? AWESHUM.

  • I found this info about "Major Tatham-Warter lead a bayonet charge against Germans carrying a pistol in one hand, madly swinging his umbrella about his head with the other, and now sporting a bowler hat on his head - which he had obtained from God knows where - doing his best to look like Charlie Chaplin. On another occasion he used the rolled up umbrella to in-effect disable a German armoured car, simply by thrusting it through an observation slit in the vehicle and incapacitating the driver".

  • PIAT is like a direct-firing mortar... Hence no back flame, safe to use in-door. =]

  • 8:13 Looks and sounds like Ben Cross. Didn't realize until now that he was in this movie, too.

  • A lot of the quotes in the book are in the movie.

  • movies never show all the points. good film though

  • YEEEEEAAA! thats what i like to see .. for an old movie i rate this 5 stars.. good effects for the time period.. (i like the german officer who led the counter attack across the brigde) {i hear the nazis are eight feet tall}

  • Why is he doing that at 3:30?

  • 8010cookie To be honest i'm not an expert but how would you immediately know there's a bunker there to begin with. That was the whole point of checking it out.

  • I have been on that brigde :)

  • That was so stupid if they did do that in the beggining. I mean wow theres a bunker right there. Obviously go when its dark. Hollywood am i right?

  • @8010cookie Hollywood indeed !

  • @ross79745 I don't know, I have read Ryan's book several times and this is a pretty faithful recreation. i might add the director is Britiish

  • @ross79745 and 8010cookie do some research - NO this FACT witness Corporal Leslie A. McCreesh as in south side assault of the Arh Bridge in "the Bridge Too Far”, one of Les's officers, Major Tatham-Warter, is pictured leading this attack with his umbrella in hand. Les attests to the fact that this officer did in fact take his umbrella with him. In war some officers lead from the front and were respected by their men, some were insanely brave like robert cain(VC) watch?v=-kYKR7vXnyM

  • @8010cookie all the way they would not do that in really war.

  • @8010cookie Thats what the para reg does - keep momentum and push on. The longer you wait the more force you may have to use.

However I may have used binos to see if there was anyone in the bunker BEFORE I walked up the bridge waving an umbrella!

  • @8010cookie you are assuming they had the luxury of waiting till dark---they had to secure the bridge instantly--that was the whole point to sieze the bridges instantly--in anticipation of what they assumed would be rapid relief...also they were led to believe that resistance would be light.

  • @555paint Yes i agree, but lets look at the points...

-There is a bunker probably with machine gunners in it (mg-42) maybe

-They sent there men right up against the pill box

-If they were trying to secure the bridge they wouldnt just "run away" the second the machine gun inevitably started firing

Don get me wrong i am British common wealth i love this movie but i was just wondering you know?

  • @8010cookie I will have to go back and look in ryan's book and see if this actually happened...my recollection is the movie is pretty faithful to the book but when i have a moment i will check it again. In fact I think I will just re read the whole book. It looks as you say pretty stupid move but I can only guess as i said before they were so pressured by the time element---maybe that was the fatal flaw in OMG period, window was too small--that it probably led to wreckless moves.

  • @8010cookie one thing in the book NOT in the movie is that paratroopers at Arnheim had been issued uppers/speed before they left England..some took em and found it really was not a good idea...made em sick or screwed up their judgement.

  • @555paint Thats interesting man, and yes! All i had meant by my comment is that Movies sometimes dont show all of the points

  • @8010cookie they had a schedule to keep to

  • @8010cookie You took the words right aou of my mouth.

    I hope, it is hollywood.

And even if they tried at daylight because of pressing time, they could have crawled along the edge instead of walking upright

  • @wasistdaswasdasist EXACTLY! I am glad this was noticed by others as-well!!

  • @8010cookie they prolly just wanted to make some sort of attempt to take the bridge as soon as possible even if it meant probing in daylight ;o

  • got to love your piats.

  • How come the flamethrower party start off as North Easteners, then turn into Welsh and Birmingham respectivley, then go back to being both Welsh?

  • @Sabreur64 Good question.

  • What a damn mess.

  • @14Praetorian Isn't one of them brummy?

  • it's an ammo dump!

we've hit thebloody ammo dump!. shit!

  • @spoony2781 This is a reference to what the Brits call the Paddy factor. We uninformed Yanks tend to miss this. There were a lot of Irish (as well as Welsh, Scots, Indians, etc.; -the UK is quite a diverse force). The Irish have this reputation, whether deserved or not, of boning the job but the screw up turns out better than the original intended goal. There was in WWII, as is true today, a lot of Irish in the British Army.

  • @Klendathue but them two para's wern't irish mate, they were welshman hence the "boyo" phrase.

  • can u upload the rest of the movie?i would appreciate that

  • where the other parts can some 1 tell me please
