The thing I like about T.W YT vids - besides T.W of course, - is that his videos, hands down, have the best comments and the least amount of assholes/trolls. Talent attracts talent, I guess. ;D Thanks to all the awesome posters - you guys rock, and make these vids a even greater pleasure.
i love all the people saying "that cant be good for his voice" or "whats the point of the growling", clearly they dont realize that its the result of 2 packs of cigarettes and half a bottle of whiskey a day for decades. his voice aged to perfection. hes not growling, hes just being tom waits.

@leonakita - ..."wtf is wrong with this man?... is it Downs?, tourettes?, ADHD?, OCD?"... I understand it may be difficult for you to see, as it is SO rare in todays music;it's the result/side effect of raw, unadulterated talent. It's extremely hard to contain without it exploding like nuclear fission, and in this case the movements are Toms safety valve, so to speak. :D Check out the full range of his career to fully understand how mind blowingly well he deals with uncontrollable talent.
@paulgad What kind of witless fool art THOU ? Its a TV performance, and the Maestro is probably just having a little bit of sport. Tom Waits is a wonderful guitarist.
@GonzoRecovery Ah, HA! Now, i know. I was never a big fan, but I have friends and family that love him. I like seeing him live, but I can not stand listening on I-pod, etc. I think sometimes people with a lot of money, like to prop up a homeless addict, and give him large sums of money. Like artwork. People who like paintings are not happy unless you pay millions for it. I have a friend with a gallery and if the painting doesnt sell, he doubles the price, and out it's gone.
@paulgad Not sure what you're getting at, but let me tell you; an old buddy of mine, ageing hippy, turned me on to Tom back in 1980. I was 18, didn't think much to him, I was into punk, ska, new wave etc.Later, older, bit wiser, I realised Tom was a poet, a visionary, revolutionary, an everyman genius who sucked in musical styles, twisted 'em & sent 'em back out into the world fresh and unique. Listen to the early stuff. Have a drink or 2 first. Smoke a doobie, if thats your thing. You'll see...
@jstoelb What are talking about?! The vocal is what makes Tom Waits the unique musician he is! I you don't like the singing-style, then stick to the metal-crap of yours.
@shesgonesailing I'm also not exactly sure why I love this guy's music. Personally, I believe it's the fact that he is such a chameleon with his music. This song is very much like the older style of rock and roll, but if you check out other songs by him you could get ballads (Tom's Traubert's Blues), Beatnik jazz (Step Right Up), and even alternative rock (I Don't Wanna Grow Up). Plus he is very recognizable. When you hear a Tom Waits song, you know it's a Tom Waits song.
@Dreadmonkey1 I know what you mean. And I realize I am a minority of 1. But honestly I am trying. So strange as I have such a broad range of tastes. Or I should more aptly say I enjoy so many different sounds. I am just as perplexed as probably all that read my post. I shall endevour to be a good student and study the auditory vibrations this man constucts that so many obviously enjoy!
@shesgonesailing Tom is one of those things that just clicks. I was thoroughly confused by why everyone adored him, but after two listens of Rain Dogs I was in love. Check out Swordfishtrombones or Rain Dogs as a starting point and give them a couple of listens.

Tom Waits has a very clever writing style he puts clamps on his testicles and they slowly tighten. Once it gets very tight great music is produced!
