  • I have somewhat similar bought 2 - 2 1/2 years back.

An older model with 15.6inch 1920x1080p screen, ATI Radeo HD4570 2+ ghz process, 6gb DDR2 RAM..

They seem to have closed that Dell Studio 15.6 model.

The only problem is battery life. It last 2 to 3 hrs. Rest all is fine.

  • These laptops made me a real dell fanatic. :)) Thanks my 'DELL'

  • I have a studio xps 1640, I Love it! <3

  • I have a dell xps m1530 and I was looking at the 14in of this one for upgrade, but dell stopped selling it in Ireland, huge pity cos all they have now is the xps 15 (which looks awful) or alienware, which I'm not keen on. Why aren't they selling any reasonably stylish laptops now? Might make me go to sony instead...

  • i have dis, its awesome. The sad part is that if we would've waited 2 more months before buying it, we could've had it with Windows 7 instead of vista.

  • I have this lap to I’ve had it for 7 months now and i got to say yes it is beautiful but I had to have the hard drive the motherboard and the graphics chip replaced in it but I have 3 years of insurance so it’s all good but besides the problems I love this laptop it amazing you know when it’s working

but in 7 months thats over £700 to repays it so I recommend you get the cover it £180 for 3 years

  • OMG I WAN THIS LAPTOP SOO MUCH =D

  • I am going to get one on sunday

  • Im using mine now.

    i7 720, 6GB DDR3 RAM, ATI Mobility HD Radeon 5730 1 GB, 1600 x 900, 500 gb. Awesome laptop :D

  • @adambombiswaycool Hey man, i'm thinking of buying xps16 with about the same specs as you got. How's battery life? I want to take it along with travelling and edit full HD video footage and so far it has shown to be the best choice

Also you recon its small enough to fit in a backpack?

  • i am buying me of these for college =DD

    can't wait to own this

  • @pkmuffun im getting one too. with core i7 720, 8 gb ddr3 ram, 500 gb hdd @ 7200 rpm, ATI radeon 5730 1 GB graphics, WLED FHD screen 1920x1080. cant wait till i get it.

  • @jattpunjabiRSK yeah! me too! just cant wait!

  • hi boss.could u tell me howz ur laptop working or how much it costs you nd from where u get it.? thanx

  • It was a competion between iMac, Sony FS1EB and this. The iMac is way too over rated and Sony doesn't have a good graphics card so i went with this beauty.

  • You make me want to buy this laptop...

  • I have this laptop... amazing speed...

  • Is it possible for me to get a copy of the original video?

  • is there any way to dim the media buttons so they dont burn out to fast?

  • Dell after sales services SUCKS with the 100% meaning of the word SUCKS... it s a nightmare.... shame on DELL..

  • @lonnix007 Yeah it's probably the worst thing about them, whenever I ring them I am on hold for no less then 45mins. Its fucked.

  • ive order mine today..can't wait

  • Myy brother haz this laptop, its soo awesome.!im gonna get it too

  • just ordered 1 2day.........with i7 1.6ghz,500gigs,wled screen.....

  • You need to be aware of the throttling issues. If running on AC power it appears the Core I7 will clock down to as low as 800mhz. Everyone I talked to that has checked has the throttling issue. Also the throttling seems to be in direct proportion to how bright the screen is as well, if you plug it in to a monitor and close the lid the throttling issue either goes away or doesn't throttle very much.

Some believe it is to deal with the underpowered 90 Watt PSU.

  • @SlyNine Even some without the Core I7 have suggested the system throttles down to deal with power requirements.

I bought one anyways as Dell has acknowledged the problem and since the system runs at full power with the battery or almost full power with the lid closed. Plus I'm a sucker for the RGB LED screen it comes with.

But I expect it to be fixed by Dell or I will return it.

  • Nice laptop....now if we could just get dell to stop lying about it and ship the new ones with core i7.

  • Dell Australia has the Core i7 Mobile CPU.. i hope i can get this laptop soon but im a bit strap for cash unfortunately. my custom build nearly costs AU$3500

  • ive build it with. 8GB DRR3, 1.73GHz i7 with 3.06GHz turbo mode. 500GB 7200RPM and Blu-Ray disc drive and 1080p RGBLED screen

  • How you'll just have to wait a lifetime for dell to ship the stupid thing.

  • It's going to take me a life time to save up for it first lol. Me and my exspansive tastes haha

  • @TravvyG that must have cost a fortune. I am going to order mine with the 1.6GHz i7, 4GB DDR3, and a 500GB 7200RPM. Thats still pretty nice.

  • Yes it is but I'm just one of those people who don't like settling for anything less then the best lol. The build I want is $3399.80 Australian which is currently about $3,064.26 US and it includes a 9 Cell but now Dell is only offering a 640GB 5400RPM for that build... I preferr proformance over compacity anyday =/

  • @TravvyG

Aye man I live in Australia as well! Yeah I am getting the Dell Studio XPS 1645 as well as you this model in this video is an older version of what we can get in Australia.

Only USA can get the 1640 we can only get the 1645. But I am not paying $800 (AUD) for a SSD what only has 256gbs or so LOL.

But if I were you if you want performance just buy a 2.5"inch laptop hard drive later on what is better than the one Dell supplies :)

  • I know thats crap ay. im trying to rationalize that but i cant seem to do it im like WTF a 256GB SSD cost 800 bucks i think they just mite be using the whole "Its New Technology" thing to charge more. im thinking about delaying the idea of getting one atm again cause apparently they are having power problems or something and Dells not offering the RGB LED Display atm as well and i want to see if Dell would put a Multi touch screen in like the new 17" Studio's

  • also im waiting for a 500GB SSD thats fast for under AU$400 =)

  • I am going with the SATA III 6.0gbps SSD :)

Western Digital is releasing one soon :)

  • But now I'm reconsidering buying this since it's taking me so long to save for it haha
