After a long migration walk, the 18 wheeler tips over out of exhaustion and is left lying in the blistering heat of the Serengeti, the ambulances will soon make a big meal out of it. That is if the firetruck doesn't get to him first.
Please search DEFORMABLE KINGPIN that explains a simple to understand solution to forbid a tractor to follow into destruction during rollover events. @Tesseract0 Devastating? oh yeah, real devastation right here. Whew. Truck tipped over, big deal. Im sure his company had insurance and I dont believe the driver would have been injured aside from a bruise or two from thunking into the door handles. Devastating this was not. lol!!
I hate how people slow down a video clip which is like 20 seconds long. I truck tipped over so slowly I could clearly see it flip. No need for 'slo-mo'.
My advise is Simple!! Don't drive along side a tractor trailer in ANY CONDITIONS unless you have to....please people this is common sense...it usually is the responsibility of the City/town/ Village etc.. to close a bridge due to high Winds..or let motorists especially new drivers no about reduced speeds in certain situations..safe travels
Actually he could have stopped, then turned the tractor on a 45 degree angle. It would have been less likely to tip, but thinking of something like that under the stress he must have been under.....?
I live in Louisiana and when the winds are bad the radio stations notify people that motorcycles, glass carriers, and tractor trailers are not allowed on certain bridges.
The video didn't show it but that may have been a bridge that's several miles long and if the trucker met up with the first flipped rig a mile down the bride he has no way of backing up with traffic behind him. Stopping at that point won't help either because the wind will blow a parked truck over just as easily.
lol he hit the brakes like the brakes work for left to right, he should hit the brakes and pulled the parking brake before he got on the bridge lol. When he hit the brakes was off too, his best bet then would be to hammer down and crank it left to use the tractor as a kick stand to keep that reefer on the ground.
being an experianced driver of a comercial vehicle and not student driver or recent graduate from a driving school , Number one rule, KNOW THE CONDITIONS AND WHAT CAN POSSIBLY HAPPEN TO YOUR VEHICLE!!!
This driver and the other one showed have already known the weather conditions either by radio, c.b. , etc. we know he/she was empty , also notice the speed they are traveling, im guessing under 25mph there is no way that vehicle would tip over at that speed unless the gust was over 70 mph.
Cont. At that point, even standing still it would still tip over. Next part, whoever commented on turning into the wind is wrong with this situation, parking and facing the wind will keep you upright. This situation you turn the direction that your falling over to get the wheels back under the vehicle. In reality, you would not drive in these conditions. No load is that important, and you will get fired for tipping over your truck but not for being safe and not moving.
If you find this happening to you, turn it into the wind if you can, and you will have a small chance of saving it. Better--do a better job of checking the weather before you drive out..
This looks like that truck driver with his truck was in the 'real' windy city. I hope he is okay and in good spirits currently. But this video is an example of dealing with extreme weather conditions like that, and for me, it is a wake up call, because I am currently a truck driving student and it is no question of a doubt a pitiful situation you don't want to be in whatsoever, and you don't want to say this in the old saying: 'Uh-oh! Better Get Maaco!'
For some reason I am always amazed at how many stupid youtube viewers there are...he probly was empty or very light, his steers didn,t want to leave the ground, anyone with an ounce of common sense can tell you thats where what little weight there was, was.
CNN reported that truck as unloaded......then again is CNN but if it was FX the truck would have been loaded with babies and hearts on the way to the hospital for patients who need them.
there a place in newfounland famous for this kind of stuff the area is known as "wreck house".trains, big trucks, vans have all blown over in this area. the locals have even been know to ancor there house to the ground
Doubles, empty trailers,in high wind, are easily blown over.I've been blown into the other lane several times. Its safer to follow trucks than to pass. Were in a hurry too,But Ive heard of trailers being blown over in a parking lot.
Almost had this happen twice...once in southern Alberta coming home in 1997 (tore the tarp right off the trailer...walking floor, and loaded), and once in central Saskatchewan in winter (empty heading for a load on slippery roads...almost got put into the opposite ditch and hit a dry spot and powered through at the last second) talk about pucker factor
you stupid dicks if its not wind then what the fuck is it cuz it aint no reason 4 it to just tip over like that u retards plus u could hear the wind 5/5 for me
I have it on good authority that the wind will bring you to an almost halt before tipping you. Weight is a factor only on how the truck is loaded. Many a 44t grossed truck have gone over. if the load is top heavy or unevenly distributed the chances of a flip are increased. The safest wagons are bulkers & tankers in heavy wind.
@WeMustBeStopped it doesnt matter what its loaded with whether its bricks or pillows. i seen a 7 or 8 trucks blown over in the santa anna winds in cali. and two of them were haulin doubles.
I have a cdl and have taken some pretty scary trips with light packs before and, yes, it most certainly does matter what your weight is when dealing with wind shear. I'm not saying there isn't a strong wind that can blow over a heavily loaded truck, I'm only saying this chap here was probably hauling empty.
I doubt the truck was fully loaded...and if it was maybe it was full of pillows. But either way, that still sucks.
Tippling a truck back on to its wheels safely and properly is a shitty thing for tow truck drivers to do....nevermind in a freakin cyclone. Truck was probably left like that for hours or more.
even with the little correction he did by turning the wheels ...he probably could have save it...by turning fast left and face the wind with its back.
I hate it when people argue in the comments section, Google needs to develop a system for YouTube where you can report immature comments and users can risk getting banned from the site.
On-topic though, there was really nothing the driver could have done. The wind was too strong and it got hold of the trailer and flipped it over, flipping the truck itself over as well. I hope the driver was uninjured.
@Jesant13 While they're at it, they could also eliminate the ones of people who whine like little babies over something that doesn't really affect anything.
