THAT is the way these ballads were orginally sung. Acapella, and Much gratitude to Leanannsidhe for finding this classic collection from the 1950s from Riverside. I hope she puts more of them up. There was an Englishman who worked on them with "Red" MacColl.
@ffvsartoris I would think they would have at least been sung to a lute or something, unless the person were a peasant or farmer singing this in a field.
@TheMidnightBell07 Sorry for the delay. No I have not, but after looking for it online I would love to hear it. It seems to be highly recommended. If I find it I will let you know. :)
@leanannsidhe Hey, wow, thanks. I can't find it online either so don't feel bad. I love his version because of the emotion, especially at the end. It may be online some where and if I find it I'll send you link.
@TheMidnightBell07 - I just saw a black and white recording of George London singing Lord Randall. It aired a few minutes ago on the community access channel in Nashville, Tennessee. Can't find it anywhere online, but clearly someone out there has it.
How are you Leanannsidhe? It's a long time since we've not talked together!

This is great. I find Andreas Scholl's version very nice as well.
