@Piruppero Well - this was taken in 1991. I was one of them (but not on this particular morning). I used this train line from that station for 16 years. Actually I used to feel sorry for myself while being a sardine inside, but conditions are better now. Regarding talking - it's considered rude to talk on the train in the morning I think, but you should see some trains late on Friday night! They can be very noisy then! - LHS
y people don't wake up earlier to take the slower train which arrived earlier and departd later, but ALL rushed into the express one which was like a can of sardines?both train are for the VERY SAME destination
That wouldn't work in Tokyo. The roads are clogged up all the time anyway, and if you put all these people into cars, the cars wouldn't fit on the roads! If they did fit, then these people would have no place to park the cars when they got to work. But anyway, this was taken in 1991 - they've added more trains and lines since then, so it's n ot so bad now. - LHS
What you're suggesting then is that everyone just stay home and not go to work! That would free up the trains and roads, but then the economy would collapse and there would be food riots, etc. Keep in mind there are over 30,000,000 people in metropolitan Tokyo... - LHS
Commuting in Tokyo can be stressful... but they've improved the system since this was taken in 1991 and it's not quite as intense (unless a train is late, etc.). - LHS
The first time I experienced a train like this, I just laughed - I thought it was like something I'd seen in the cartoons and I couldn't believe it was real. But later, I sort of got used to it. The mindset is that it's less unpleasant to endure becoming a sardine than it is to get to work late! - LHS
I've experienced this a few times in Tokyo and I was very glad to be 6'-1" tall. You think no more people can fit and then they use that stick to push everyone in closer so more folks can cram in there.
it's really a pole that's about an inch in diameter that's the same length as the width of the open doors and they use it to push back the folks inside the train so more people can get in during morning rush hour.
On which line(s) have you seen this used? I've never seen anything like that on the lines I use. Also, when did you see that? They keep changing the way they do things - maybe it's something they used to use, but don't now? - LHS
What's sad about the misunderstandings is it's mostly "stereotyping", something I dislike...
Anyway like I said before same thing happens here, and during my time (going to and from school) my bag got caught between the doors on several occasions making the station attendants push me in or ask me to get off and wait for the next train which arrives in about 6-10 minutes.
Yea... just normal people doing what they need to do... or become late.
At least on my own posting of this, I can respond to things and moderate the posts, but the copy ones are really bad. Posted with lies, not moderated at all.... - LHS
But seriously you should own their butts for the trouble... Just sayin'.
It being funny and all I think that's fine but the truth behind it should be known instead of becoming somekind of rumor where the facts become twisted causing a hooplah over nothing...
Anyway bottomline is the people who copied and gave false info are the one's who should be held responsible for the misunderstandings.
I know - I'm almost embarrassed to post this again, but I wanted to show it with the normalcy of people walking through the ticket gates, down the stairs, etc. Shoving immediately: I think they realize that the more forward momentum they can generate immediately, the better chance they have of actually getting aboard. Notice that a few people had to go elsewhere and a couple couldn't get on the train. In asking people if they've ever heard of injuries, apparently there have been some... - LHS

how arrogant to think that other's life style as sad..
it's natural not to talk much with strangers at early monday morning train to work.
will you feel like a chat in that chaos? and they won't think of you as odd for not saying hi to passer-by in asia.

The silence is unbelievable. Nobody speak. They look like robots. I feel sad for them.

Simple solution - RAISE THE FARES. Problem solved.

Again, simple. RAISE THE TOLLS. Actually, not as simple as that - you need to raise the fares during peak periods, and lower them during slack times.

I just don't understand how they could stuff and push each other into those trains.
I get claustrophobic just watching.

hmm...somehow...I've seen this before o.o...hmm
Still funny though, I like how the passengers start shoving immideatly, like a reflex :D and then the workers join them.
I wonder if they ever break anyone like that. They seem to be pushing with full force :D
