Also forgot the battle of Aljubarrota, where the Portuguese empire, with few more than 5000 men, fought the Spanish who had an empire of about 30 000.
Seriously? You didn't even add the Battle of Little Bighorn? All of Custer's men even himself were killed even their horses got obliterated. Idiot...Complete idiot.
i'm persian and i know that we were defated not by the spartans by the greeks! the 7000 man greek army defated the 240 000 man persian army. love you our greek brothers and sisters ;)
I think it would have been cool if you would've added the battle of Alesia when vercingetorix united the gaulish tribes against ceasar.... And lost :(
@Thefasistas the greek army was indeed of over 7000 men, who did hold the pass for 7 days, where 3 of them where in fights. after that the persians had gotten info of a way around by Ephialtes (who is that guy who cant hold his shield up high in the movie) after the greek army found out about that they where beeing flanked all but 1400 greeks stayed to defend the pass untill the others where able to get away to spread the word
but still 7500 men vs 100 000 - 300 000 is a pretty much loss
I knew there will be a moment from the Turkish-Hungarian war. Hungarians, Romanians, and Poles hold the Turks for 150 years. Nobody helped them, until Hungarian Kingdom became Austrian territority.
Ok at the battle of thermopylae, the 7,000 Greek troops against 200,000 Persian troops. The Greeks were not doing so well so every soldier except 300 Spartans were sent to warn Athens. The Spartans were owning the Persians until A Greek traitor told the persians a secret path. The persians came from all sides and the Spartans were still doing good. Then the Persians retreated and they're archers we're up. They all fired at once and the arrows killed all 300 of the Spartans left.
it was not a Greek army led by 300 Spartans. as far as i know, it was an army of all the city-states of Greece and it was led by the king of the city state Sparta, which would be Leonidas. there were more than 300 Spartans in the army, but Leonidas told the rest of the army to retreat back to Greece. he chose 300 of his best men (all Spartan of course) and made a last stand, holding back the Persians and allowing the rest of the Greeks to escape safely. <-- just pointing that out (:
@YTLyricsMaker oh, u got it wrong, it was 300 spartas that was going to slow the persians down, they held for 3 days, the 10 000 men army was from all city states :3
@YTLyricsMaker Don't trust shitty hollywoodian movies. The battle lasted 3 days. On the first day and second day, they were a greek army of 7000, led by the spartans. In the evening, they got betrayed by Ephialtes. 300 spartans,400 thebians (as hostage) and 700 thespians, led by Leonidas stayed to slow the persians and let the greek regroup themselve.
@Geroaergaroe i actually took that from articles here and there. but i noticed that there are different versions of everything. as far as i know, the rest of the Greeks retreated while Leonidas and 300 of his best men stood and fought to hold the Persians back. Leonidas and his men were doing well against the Persians, countering the attacks. thats until a traitor showed the Persians a unheavily guarded path which led the Spartans and Leonidas to their deaths. correct me if im wrong please
@YTLyricsMaker@YTLyricsMaker Well, many ancient greek author (Herodotus's version being the most famous) described the scene, and agree about the first two day. About 7000 greek fought for two day before the treason. On the third day, they are some different version.
@YTLyricsMaker Herotodus say that "The Thebans remained against their will and desire, for Leonidas kept them as hostages. The Thespians very gladly remained, saying they would not abandon Leonidas and those with him by leaving; instead they would stay and die with them. ", so at least one thing is sure, Spartan were not standing alone on the third day. (Quote from "Herodotus, The Histories", translated b A. D. Godley, Cambridge, Harvard University)
@Geroaergaroe thanks for telling me this. i really didnt know that there were Thespians had remained with Leonidas. and i definitely didnt know that Leonidas held Thebans as hostages. thank you for the correction again....cheers!
@YTLyricsMaker Just my humble opinion - Leonidas not only helped the Greeks to escape, but also managed to "earn some extra time" for whole Greece to mobilize and prepare better to hold the massive onslaught of the Persians. Also - with his unbelievable heroism he wanted to inspire Greeks for a real fight. My best regards to Greece - the Motherland of the European civilization and culture!!!

@Ghostwalker13579 How much u wanna fail here? XD Finland was pretty strong against soviet russian and america might be strong, but thats because they use missiles and other shit against other countrys.
Sixty years on, there are no grounds to withhold images kept in a Finnish Defence Forces' safe By Anna-Stina Nykänen. These reveal images of cannibalism. Russian troops, surrounded by Finns and with no hope of relief, have started to eat their dead. There are around 300 images in the box. With them is the document detailing the FDF decision to withhold the images.
what about the Siege of Baghdad (1258)? it required the largest army the Mongols ever used in order to take it after failing previous sieges +its fall ended the "Islamic Golden age" and was the last of the Caliphs. It resulted in the death of around 2,150,000 people. It was the last stand of all the Arabian people.
@Timmoux are u jealous sir??that my countries' PEOPLE are brave and love freedom...so they never let anyone take it...they whould rather die instead of being slaves to their enemies...u are so jealous u cant stop mentioning our ban economic sitation ignoring our great history which happens to be the best and FIRST ever history written among the centuries...
@HeavyRebetis Why would I be jealous of a county that is broke? And did you ever sort out that garbage strike? Yeah, I'm so jealous of the piles and piles of rotting rubbish lying in your streets...
@Timmoux u are not jealous of us being broke...u are jealous of us being the ones responsible for the arcitecture in your house..for the pc u are typing at,for the food u eat,for the language u speak, the arcitecture of your neighbourhoods' church,a large percentage of the things u were tought in school...its all GREEK!
@HeavyRebetis Yes, you WERE the pinnacle of civilization at one point, and Australia has never really made any major contribution to the whole world (apart from resources), but your time was centuries ago. Now your just the old man in the factory that refuses to retire. And all your food tastes like crap.
P.S. You can have your bloody churches back any time you like. You should have stayed with Zeus, he was heaps cooler than Iehova.
Stuff this awsome channel missed in Thermopoly, the greek city states fled to get more reenforcements, whilst the spartans stayed to hold the 500,000 persian army back, thus saving the West from East, a defeat but moral victory, since they killed the majority of the Persian army. (None of this stuff is based on the movie, although I highly recomemd it).
There's a hidden story of a squad of 13 Russian conscripts whom held off a 250-300 man company of Chechen paramilitary forces from capturing a small village somewhere between the southern borders of Chechnya and Dagestan back in the 93'-96' Russo-Chechen war. From the 13 conscripts, 7 ran away and 6 surrendered after running out of ammo. The 6 were beheaded and video taped as a mean of propaganda. The video is around the internet for those of you interested all do viewer discretion is advised.
Alltime10s, I believe that you are one in the selected handful of the best Youtubers that have ever existed, however, I have to disagree with you on this one; as far as last militarial last stands go, I deem 'Killer Hill' as the optimum example of a last stand, solely impending on the fact that it was inconceivable 125-to-1 last stand. I do apologize, I'm pretty decent at Math.
the battle of killer hill was pure ownage to the finns 32 troops they lost 4 that means at the end 28 were alive 4000 russians lost 400 that means 3600 troops left standin so 32 people lost 4 men whilest holding off 4000 russians and yet the russians only killed 4 omg russia i thought ur millatary was stronger

@zazzzzarifpower its supposed to be "THIS IS SPAAAAAAAAAARTAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Oh you overproud Finns, you are the main part of the comments even though you lost a war where russians army had absolutely terrible generals and its army were mainly conscripts unlike yours, together with that you had the advantage of being a defender, its like if the germans would think that their war with Russia was a win because Russians had big casualties, it doesnt work that way.
@SuperStrelko Also - maybe it was not terrible generals of the Red Army and poor conscript solders almost dead from hunger, but damned good commanders of the Finns and ingenious, tough, and merciless defense tactics?
The battle of dien bien phu was known as the last stand of the SS because loads of SS soliders germans went into the french foreign legion after the war
recommend you read "men, swords and tomatoes" in this book are described several scenes of fighting the Portuguese. among them one Portuguese soldier who defied an entire enemy army because of a military helmet that he had lost in battle, or how many injuries Hold a Portuguese?, or not having bullet tore a tooth, the Musket loaded and fired. and more.
Siege of larache 20,000 algerians vs 150 spanish, siege of la goleta 100,000 ottomans vs 7000 spanish scattered to defend the whole of tunis, probably less than 2000 in the fort of la goleta
larache 133 to 1 la goleta 50 to 1 and both sieges lasted more than that shitty french battle 3 to 1
and whats worse, they didnt even surrender.
And about the finns, they lost their winter war against russia and the forest brothers were a resistance guerrila group and the USSR took lithuania in a week.
What about the one in the 70's in Oman. 9 SAS troops held out at their post and defended the road to a town that opposition forces wanted to take control of. 2 SAS troops died, and 1/4 to 1/3 of the 300 attackers were killed, with the rest left retreating.
I think that most heroic stand was Finland against the USSR, Where the ratio of Soviet solders outnumbered the defenders by 15-20 to 1. Not even speaking about the fact that Soviets were a formal army, had tanks, aviation, etc. Where Finns were mostly just ordinary men (civilians) armed with simple guns, etc. Moreover, they managed to DEFEND their country. The second place I'd give to the Lithuanian "forest brothers" who managed like Finns to actively resist the USSR for over than 10 years.
@Aeletaz747 Yes, I read a couple of books about their war tactics at Winter War. That was incredible how every person sacrificed to defend their country from the Red Cockroach Horde (USSR). Such a huge and power like USSR with such a mighty war machine could not do anything against such a small but DAMNED STUBBORN nation. I think this shall be taught for kids at school both in history and ethics lessons.
@worras2007 The Russian army was just conscripts with very low morale and poorly equiped, the generals were new ones and were terrible, the finns even lost the war and i dont care that they were outnumbered because under such conditions they didnt do all that well.
@SuperStrelko Well, formally, Finland lost the war, lost part of its territory (Karelia), had to pay huge reparations, lost lots of men, but IT RETAINED ITS INDEPENDENCE. Not only the bloody Soviet killing machine got stuck in their forests and swamps, but stubborn Finns managed to kick back in defense really hard being SUBSTANTIALLY OUTNUMBERED. And the morale of the Soviet army was always like that, poor, hungry conscripts. Up till now.
@worras2007 Lol seriously learn some history A)That was not a last stand, it was a war. B)The ratio of Soviet to Finnish soldiers was never bigger then 1-1.5/1-2. C)The soviet army just went trough a purge, its soldiers were conscripts, which were ill equipped (In comparison to their finish counterparts). So saying they were "ordinary" men is an underestimation. D)The soviet tanks and planes proved very ineffective in the war.
Also forgot the battle of Aljubarrota, where the Portuguese empire, with few more than 5000 men, fought the Spanish who had an empire of about 30 000.

HaiLsKuNkY 3 weeks ago
what about the Siege of Baghdad (1258)? it required the largest army the Mongols ever used in order to take it after failing previous sieges +its fall ended the "Islamic Golden age" and was the last of the Caliphs. It resulted in the death of around 2,150,000 people. It was the last stand of all the Arabian people.

Oh you overproud Finns, you are the main part of the comments even though you lost a war where russians army had absolutely terrible generals and its army were mainly conscripts unlike yours, together with that you had the advantage of being a defender, its like if the germans would think that their war with Russia was a win because Russians had big casualties, it doesnt work that way.

recommend you read "men, swords and tomatoes" in this book are described several scenes of fighting the Portuguese. among them one Portuguese soldier who defied an entire enemy army because of a military helmet that he had lost in battle, or how many injuries Hold a Portuguese?, or not having bullet tore a tooth, the Musket loaded and fired.

The second place I'd give to the Lithuanian "forest brothers" who managed like Finns to actively resist the USSR for over than 10 years.
worras2007 1 month ago 35
@worras2007 Says something about the USSR's tactics more than anything else.
Talbot6832 1 month ago
@worras2007 yeah we Finns are tough...
Aeletaz747 1 month ago
@Aeletaz747 Yes, I read a couple of books about their war tactics at Winter War. That was incredible how every person sacrificed to defend their country from the Red Cockroach Horde (USSR). Such a huge and power like USSR with such a mighty war machine could not do anything against such a small but DAMNED STUBBORN nation. I think this shall be taught for kids at school both in history and ethics lessons.
worras2007 1 month ago
@worras2007 The Russian army was just conscripts with very low morale and poorly equiped, the generals were new ones and were terrible, the finns even lost the war and i dont care that they were outnumbered because under such conditions they didnt do all that well.
SuperStrelko 1 week ago
@SuperStrelko Well, formally, Finland lost the war, lost part of its territory (Karelia), had to pay huge reparations, lost lots of men, but IT RETAINED ITS INDEPENDENCE. Not only the bloody Soviet killing machine got stuck in their forests and swamps, but stubborn Finns managed to kick back in defense really hard being SUBSTANTIALLY OUTNUMBERED. And the morale of the Soviet army was always like that, poor, hungry conscripts. Up till now.
worras2007 5 days ago
@worras2007 Lol seriously learn some history A)That was not a last stand, it was a war. B)The ratio of Soviet to Finnish soldiers was never bigger then 1-1.5/1-2. C)The soviet army just went trough a purge, its soldiers were conscripts, which were ill equipped (In comparison to their finish counterparts). So saying they were "ordinary" men is an underestimation. D)The soviet tanks and planes proved very ineffective in the war.
