Did listen original version and... The Beach Boys' version wins hands down IMO!!! Brian's voice is beyond compare! Not to forget his cousin Mike who is considered by many as talentless or whatever. But listen to most of the songs where he sings including this - he is a great singer. Brian Wilson himself said so. Moreover IMO The BBs is the only band where each CAN sing. Very good voices indeed. I don't pay attention to lawsuits, quarrels & so on. I'm interested only in Music.

Admittedly, I can't sing worth beans, but that is a different deal altogether. Second where are you from dude? The Beach Boys don't surf (well, maybe Dennis did) and so it didn't dry their throats out either. That being said they are from my home (SoCal) and they are still big favorites here. The best. But don't dis' the Mystics

@spacepatrolman cool, is your voice dried out? I surfed Bird Rock (near PB and La Jolla) last Sunday. The Mystics hold up fine. You know it, I know it, most of all the BB's knew it. They loved that tune and what the Mystic did with it. I think you can actually correspond with some of these old guys via youtube. They will send you a response. The sound great ... even now in their 70's. It's not about being better, enjoy it for what it is.

Surf Music is the Top music during the 60s! Try being in DisneyWorld in Typhoon Lagoon Singing these Tunes of DooWop and Rock&Roll of 50s and 60s!

Me and Two of my friends who i met sang Hushabye in The Mystics Original Version and we became the Top singers with the characters later in the Magic Kingdom Sharing Rock&Roll That Started it all!

Nobody can touch Brian's falsetto! It, and the production values in this recording set it APART from the others, IMHO. Per the drummer Q, Hal Blaine WAS present (not clear if he was the drummer on this track, tho, as it's not specified.) Song was recorded along with 5 others on 4-29-64 at Western Recorders, Hollywood. Session ran from 10:30am to 1:30pm. "Wendy" was one of the 5 others. (Source: "Beach Boys / Diary on Stage & in the Studio" by Keith Badman.) Hope that helps.

Todd, Thanks for the comments on Hushaby. I love the Beach Boys version. Do you have any idea who Brian Wilson wrote "Wendy" about? I have been unable to find any info. Interesting he named one of his daughter's Wendy. Also, I started playing drums late in ife. Can you explain the sound from "loose heads" on Dennis Wilson's drums.

I am not sure when the Beach Boys started using session musicians. I don't think they started using them until 1964. (When this album came out) It's possible Blaine drummed on this tune.

Many singers/groups have recorded this song, and I like most of them. The big hit by The Mystics remains my favorite. This version by the Beach Boys is also great as was/is the one by Jay & the Americans. LG

Pure magic. How did they made it? At 1:46 you can hear clearly what a great, pure, sweet voice Brian had in the 60's. Everytime I hear this song - and especially Brian's divine part - I have to cry. And I'm a 37 years old man. I listen to this music since I was 14. And it still moves me inside. Greetings from Germany to all BB-Fans in the world.

Absolutely amazing. Anyone that wants to be singer should listen to this and then run it through an audio processing program. You will see numbers that are mostly spot on, give or take +/- one. That is no easy task and given Brian's quest for perfect, this is the take we get to hear. Many other takes were likely rejected..
