I shoot IDPA and am wanting to get my kid into shooting. Of course she is 5 right now. I showed the wife some of Tori's videos and told her, this is what I want our kid to do when she gets older. The plan is to take the kid to the range soon, of course uNDER COMPLETE CONTROL DIRECTION, ETC.
Thanks for posting. I love watching her shoot. Be safe!
She is awesome for her age. She is going to be one of the few female GM's in the future. Tori and Sarah Irish are going to dominate the women's division.
Awesome vidoes. Tori is quite talented, keep up the good work. It appears that, according to the like/dislike bar, that one pervert had shit his pants after watching your video. :)
Is using the slide catch release against the rules? I know on some guns it's not that easily used, but if so, could you? I found that using it on my H&K made reloading slightly faster, but then again, it's easily manipulated.
Having shot both Practical Pistol and Police Pistol I and II, and if I had to make a criticism, it would be that muzzles in the air during reloads would have you off most 'cold' ranges I know off.
Muzzle downrange and level or depressed slightly at all times.
Not familiar with 'hot' ranges so won't pretend to know what is acceptable.
Aaron, very innovative camera work. I was positive you weren't filming downrange. My friends and I just started shooting competitively at the local club shoots. We see the value in video taping our runs. Presentation from the holster is a struggle for me so, this video is very interesting to me. I will have a similar set-up the next time I go to the range. Mahalo.
@HeadBoxShot Actually Tori made this herself. She sat the camera on the table in front of her. When she walks forward you can see her turn it off. Thanks for viewing.
P.S. Did you think I stood in front of her and held the camera? My matrix skills are WEAK!! I would not have been able to dodge those bullets. :)
Just curious how early did you start your kids in shooting? In my state they aren't allowed to use firearms until 12. I'm hoping my kids will take an interest in the shooting sports. Started them on airguns but they haven't had much interest yet.
@melbourne0 All of my kids start at age three. I had them seated and shooting a single shot cricket .22 rifle and single shot .22 revolver while resting on a sandbag. All the best and I hope your kids develop a passion for the shooting sports!
@aaronnonaka Thanks for the idea! I want my daughters to take up the shooting art as well - they're 4 & 2 right now. I hope your daughter will continue to excel. Good luck
Not sure where you live but anyone here in the USA can shoot a pistol. Buying one is a different story. If you are interested in shooting try going to a local range where IDPA or USPSA matches are held and talk to someone there.
Maybe try and get you parents to take you to check it out.
What she is doing...at what I suppose is 14 years of age?
Is this legal?
I know if I was doing what she was doing (assuming that she is/was 14), I would be tackled by all the LEO's and rangemasters, and I would lose my right to exist outside of a jail cell...
I have never heard of anywhere that it is illegal for a 14yo to shoot a handgun. It is illegal in most places for them to do so (or handle one) without supervision, or own one under 21 though.

That is what I said. I worded it funny I guess. It is perfectly legal for anyone to shoot one (underage or not). It just is not legal for someone under age to own or purchase a pistol while underage, and in some places it is illegal for someone underage to have access to, or even handle a pistol while underage and not supervised. I was responding to the dude who seemed to disagree with you and I on that.
Pretty smooth reload, kept your eyes (or at least your face, hard to tell with glasses) on target. Though, I noticed that you switched from using the release with your weak thumb to slingshotting the slide on the empty reloads.
It seems the most common setup is a polymer outside the belt holster and a vest. I wish they allowed crossdraws, though. Shoulder holsters are pretty damned common.
Hello John234pwns. This reloading drill is meant to practice all of the common reloading techniques. Speed reloads, reload with retention, tactical reloads, "thumbing the slide", sling shot and palm over. This drill is both fun an tricky at the same time! Thanks for the comment.
Great drill practice. Has anyone ever slammed in a single stack 10 rd mag in too hard with the slide back? Talk about a death jam;( I did that in a state match once and it took forever to get my gun unjammed. Some guys actually make their gun so the slide won't lock back on the last shot for that very reason. I think it mainly does that on an extended mag because the bottom of a stock single stack mag helps keep the mag from going up too far into the breach.
Aaron/Tori: I know they are both great guns and she can undoubtedly handle either one of them with great mastery but, just out of curiosity, why did Tori decided to switch from shooting an M&P to a G34?
I wanted Tori to move to a 5" gun. We had looked into the M&P9 Pro, XD9 Tactical and the Glock 34. All similar and great guns. However, Tori felt the wide notch of the Sevigny Competition sights on the G34 enable her to get a quicker and more consistent sight picture compared to the other guns.
Tori does shoot 1911's as well. As for double action guns like the CZ or HK? They are great guns! But Tori is still only 14 and has small hands. The long & heavy 9-12lb double action pull of the first shot is difficult for her to get off quickly & accurately on a consistent basis. Thanks for the comment.
I've heard of a technique where you take up the slack in the trigger as you present the weapon, meaning the trigger is nearly at it's break when the pistol is on target. Thoughts?
What you are describing is exactly how Tori was taught to shoot. (at the U.S. Shooting Academy) The problem is still as I described above. She lacks the trigger finger strength at this time to do this with a DA gun quickly as she can with a SA/Safe Action gun. Thanks again for the comments.
I'd rather call it Single action only, no matter what you do the "hammer" (not that there is a hammer, but the point) is always cocked, no matter what you do, there is never a double action way to shoot. The trigger either won't work at all, or will release the firing pin/striker, it will never do any cocking.
Just go to my channel or type ukumehame in the youtube search bar. He was ten years old then. He hasn't shot much since then. He is into video games, playing his ukulele, and trying to get his time down solving the rubrics cube. Wish he had your commitment but I don't want to push him. When he decides to commit to something, he does it . So I'm just waiting for him to be ready to commit to ipsc. He's almost thirteen now and almost as tall as me.

Wow, very smooth reloads.
What method to release the slide do you prefer? Overhand, slide release, cant then rack. Which is faster?

I've seen another shooter secure the magazine on a reload with retention by sticking it in their pants. Is that IDPA legal?
Been taught that it has to go into a pocket. Just curious.
