A fine performance of a very difficult song. This song has been covered by most every major singer through the years, some good, and some not so good. My favorite cover of this was when Cass Elliot performed this on one of her t.v specials. But these girls did an excellent job! Thanks
Patty Andrews did not regard the song as a sad lament but more of a rueful reflection by someone who realizes she will never have the love of her dreams but that won't stop her from loving him. So in Patty's interpretation, it was a song of defiance as much as a song of regret. The ladies here have wonderful expression, blend and technique.
This was a totally unexpected record, Gordon Jenkins framing the Andrews Sisters within a large string setting and Maxene and Laverne coming in only for the reprise. Went straight to #1. Actually there are two versions out; on some Decca collections an alternate take appears by mistake.
Thanks for putting this on YouTube. I used to do piano bar entertainment, and this was one of my all-time favorite songs to sing! Love it, and you ladies did an awesome job on a tricky song. <3 Thanks again.
I wonder if the CLOD that commented below has ever attempted a song so complicated...WONDERFUL, SPOT ON VERSION LADIES!!! Take it from this AndrewS Sister expert...the girls would be flattered...simply genius...and many many thanks for posting...
Ain't bad. Of course the Andrew Sister's did a splendid interpertation. A little slow perhaps and a bit overboard with the sadness from the lead. Nonetheless it is very good,
When they do get together again, assuming the trio don't do this for a living, they just may nail it on the head
