People don't seem to realize: she was born in america. It's not like she's some random idol trying for world domination, she knows this country too; she was born in Manhattan, and even after moving to Japan she went to an American school in Japan.
BoA can speak and sing 3 languages fluently , debuted in 3 countries and has been working hard for over 11 years . I dont say Utada doesn't work hard but if you guys respect Utada , u should respect BoA too .

Unfortunately, she seems determined to do something else in the U.S. After two supposed "flops" (I liked them both), I think it's probably safe to say that the mainstream pop thing is not what she does best. I really enjoy her English albums, but none of those songs come close to "Keep Tryin" or her KH songs. The U.S. needs an epic performer who isn't a sex symbol, and it could be her, but she just doesn't seem interested in doing that in this market for some reason. :(

Ok, so I really like both BoA and Utada, and I like both their English debut albums, but I have to say, hands down, Utada takes the crown. BoA's album is really fun and upbeat, but it get' too repetitive and her English is pretty questionable in some parts. Utada's album is much more solid and diverse, not to mention very creative and clever. And lyrically, Utada's album is MUCH better. With BoA, it just sounds like she's reading off a peice of paper someone put infront of her and just sings it.

I don't know if you're Asian, but if you are (or even if you're not, but like Asian pop), then you should be supportive of all the Asian artists trying to break into the US market: Utada, BoA, Se7en, Rain, etc. Most of these artists are either Korean or Japanese, and I'm Chinese, but I still wish all of them success here in the US. yeah, I honestly just think it's her nature. It's jarring for an American audience considering what were use to seeing from our own artist (boisterous, confident borderline cocky, spunky and spirited), Utada is pretty much the opposite of that (mellow, laid back, down to earth). Its funny how they keep calling This Is the One her break out album when its really her second album in the US. I thoughtexodus was awesome though, and I've already pre orderedthe new album XD
they call this her breakout album because Exodus was kind of a lowkey release and only dedicated fans found out about it. She's doing more mainstream promotion for This Is The One to appeal to a US audience that has never heard her Japanese stuff before. BTW, This Is the One is her 3rd US album, she released one in 1998 under the stage name Cubic U, you should check it out! I don't know if it's good tho, lol. I've never listened to Exodus before, so I don't really know how I feel about it, lol.
She is really having a tough time articulating herself lately in these interviews. I don't know if it's because of a lack of sleep or whatever but she is acting entirely too goofy and she really needs to start preparing answers or people in the USA are gonna think she is a total airhead.
Are you aware she's in been back and forth between Japan and the States back and forth for the past six months? I've done that, it's a 17 hour flight, so imagine the jet lag, that you can never get over. Not to mention she's already working on her next Japanese album before this one even's out. And, she might just be a silly person. I think she seems more down to earth than anything, less fake.
I understand what jet lag causes and that that is probably the reason why she feels so exhausted and is acting goofy in her interviews. What I'm really trying to say is that these interviews are not a big deal, but when she is interviewing in front of a national audience or on the Today Show for example she better get herself rested and ready because the jetlag excuse won't cut it.
I'm sure when she appears on the Early Show in March she'll be awesome and people watching will be impressed.
She can't articulate as well in English as she does in Japanese. If you see her Japanese interviews, her answers are more fluid, and she can sarcastic and funny.
In her English interviews, she's more diplomatic. She has to gather his thoughts before she speaks hence the momentary pauses at times.
However, she's gotten better at it. For example, check out interview on CNN a few years back vs. her recent ones. Regardless, she's still great and I think I will enjoy her new album.
I heard that Utada was famous for tending to express little easy things in a difficult way. Even in Japan she struggles for words to explain things that normally would be easy to explain or say.

dude, what's up with the hate? I don't know if you're Asian, but if you are (or even if you're not, but like Asian pop), then you should be supportive of all the Asian artists trying to break into the US market: Utada, BoA, Se7en, Rain, etc. Most of these artists are either Korean or Japanese, and I'm Chinese, but I still wish all of them success here in the US. I will give it to you though, Utada has a big 1-up with her English compared to BoA.

Oh yeah! man Charice is bomb! She has such a strong voice for such a tiny person! But I think she's kind of a different case though because she's like a breakout singer to everyone in the world whereas BoA, Utada, Se7en, and Rain already have established reps in their respective countries and are just breaking into the US market specifically.

I checked out UTADA's site and they released 2 more sample tunes from her new album. "FYI" and "Dirty Desire"...omg at first I was like WTF because of the lyrics but then I was like it's cool because the lyrics are kind of sexy! I can't wait for this album...though I heard that the album got pushed to May!

I find myself getting constantly annoyed by the fact she can't express what she's thinking articulately. (e.g Uh... this that..you know, uh uh... *pauses mid sentence and starts another sentence * )But then, she has also been like that when she's in Japan...

yeah, I honestly just think it's her nature. It's jarring for an American audience considering what were use to seeing from our own artist (boisterous, confident borderline cocky, spunky and spirited), Utada is pretty much the opposite of that (mellow, laid back, down to earth). I actually really like that about her though, it makes her seem more human and just like a normal person (like the fame didn't go all to her head).

they call this her breakout album because Exodus was kind of a lowkey release and only dedicated fans found out about it. She's doing more mainstream promotion for This Is The One to appeal to a US audience that has never heard her Japanese stuff before. BTW, This Is the One is her 3rd US album, she released one in 1998 under the stage name Cubic U, you should check it out! I don't know if it's good tho, lol. I've never listened to Exodus before, so I don't really know how I feel about it, lol.

She is really having a tough time articulating herself lately in these interviews. I don't know if it's because of a lack of sleep or whatever but she is acting entirely too goofy and she really needs to start preparing answers or people in the USA are gonna think she is a total airhead.

Are you aware she's in been back and forth between Japan and the States back and forth for the past six months? I've done that, it's a 17 hour flight, so imagine the jet lag, that you can never get over. Not to mention she's already working on her next Japanese album before this one even's out. And, she might just be a silly person. I think she seems more down to earth than anything, less fake.

I understand what jet lag causes and that that is probably the reason why she feels so exhausted and is acting goofy in her interviews. What I'm really trying to say is that these interviews are not a big deal, but when she is interviewing in front of a national audience or on the Today Show for example she better get herself rested and ready because the jetlag excuse won't cut it.
I'm sure when she appears on the Early Show in March she'll be awesome and people watching will be impressed.

She can't articulate as well in English as she does in Japanese. If you see her Japanese interviews, her answers are more fluid, and she can sarcastic and funny.
In her English interviews, she's more diplomatic. She has to gather his thoughts before she speaks hence the momentary pauses at times.
However, she's gotten better at it. For example, check out interview on CNN a few years back vs. her recent ones. Regardless, she's still great and I think I will enjoy her new album.

I heard that Utada was famous for tending to express little easy things in a difficult way. Even in Japan she struggles for words to explain things that normally would be easy to explain or say.
