Lethal video, anyone watching this should not try and boil their bottles as has been said it may explode and kill you with shards of glass that will puncture you like a bullet!
Okay so this lava lamp was sitting in my boyfriends house for like 5 years with out being used and i plugged it in and about an hour in to it, it still wasnt doing anything so i shook it and now all of that stuff is clumped together and there is a metal ring thing that floated to the top of it...is it still fixable or should i just throw it away?
In 2004, Phillip Quinn, a 24-year-old of Kent, Washington, was killed during an attempt to heat up a lava lamp on his kitchen stove while closely observing it from only a few feet away. The heat from the stove built up pressure in the lamp until it exploded, spraying shards of glass with enough force to pierce his chest, with one shard piercing his heart and causing fatal injuries. The circumstances of his death were later repeated and confirmed in a 2006 episode [...] MythBusters.
The circumstances of his death were later repeated and confirmed in a 2006 episode of the popular science television series MythBusters. The show also proved that even if shards of glass are not thrown with lethal velocity during such an attempt, the resulting spray of hot liquid from the lamp could easily cause severe burns to anyone nearby. The show also noted that the safety instructions clearly state that lava lamps should not be heated by any source other than the specifically rated bulbs.

hello I have a lava lamp and a candle stuck on top of what now download the fear that break the glass if you do this way because there is alos a great lava lamp
lol wut you can do is run ur lava lamp when its flowing good is turn it off then when it settles at the bottom still molten turn it back on then repeat the process im doing it to mine right now and it appears to be working a little im on my like 3 time turning it on again now anyway did this work?
@Pahrumpian, Someone did this too. The lamp exploded, the hot fluid went all over him and a piece of glass made a fatal hit in the hearth. Don't do this, this could kill you.
Mythbusters had the lamp on the stove top itself. I think that is why it exploded the way it did. This guy has it in boiling water - so, I think that's why.
I myself have a cloudy lava lamp with a giant glob at the top and am curious if this would be a good way to clear it up.
@Pahrumpian are you serious ? HAve you not seem mythbusters where the blew up like 40 of them ? ok think of it this way .. The water is @ a crazy rapid boil.. The lava lamp is sitting on the bottom of the pot , which means its basically sitting on the burner .... Im guessing its at 214 degrees? give or take ? considering that your hot water tank is set to produce water that is no more than 140 degrees on a residential house... hmmmm ... Its a fucking bottle , with a bottle cap on it... hhmmmm
how cloudy was your water before you put it in boiling water because i got a new lava lamp (ordered online) and it is really cloudy. Do you think this will help it?
@SilentWolfJH Please do not put it in boiling water !!!! you can get KILLED from it somone got killed from doing this the presuure built up inside till the glass smashed and killed him PLEASE PLEASE dont try this
@rcreveiwers ur about a year too late lol, also i read that article of the guy being killed before I did it. I prepared a lot of proper safety precautions before I did it, but thanks for your concern.
@Hardboi01 Waiting didn't work for me, It all really depends on how bad your lava lamp is. I waited 2 months and it never really settled then I left it running for a full 24 hours and it didn't fix anything so I decided to try this and it worked for me. Hopefully it will work for you.
@Pahrumpian lol no its alright i havent shaken it yet haha just wanted to know what i should do if i did xD but if u boil it does it make the water or w/e liquid it is more translucent? cos one of mine is abit murkey...

@SilentWolfJH My water was pretty murky and when I boiled it I think the wax may have absorbed it. I'm not sure. But it's always worth a shot.

@Pahrumpian yea, i did it the other day and it cleared up a lot, but its still murky. So im gonna try it again to see if it will get any better

is boiling it or taking the top of the only way to fix it after youve shaken it? or can you just let it settle down again when its all cold again?
