... What can I say? At the moment, Im stoned and just heard this song. I feel resolved. You know, after a great sensation, when you feel flying? Gave me chills. Amazing.
you'll hear some amazing organ with bass pedal riffin about 5-1/2 into the song. i think the song might bring goosebumps and it's instrumental.&&&&&&&&&&&%%%%%%%%%#####
back in the 80's when i first heard this, think i was at the zenith of instrumental euphoria. David Garibaldi is one of the best drummers of the bay area. saw tower in 90. was 16 at the time, and favorite album is east bay grease (1970) pure soulful bliss!
Well yeah, but I'd imagine it's impossible to improvise in a horns' section though, because they would practically have to be psychic to play the same notes.
yeah, squib cakes. From back to Oakland album 1974. later that year the album Urban Reneawal they had one kinda like it called walkin' up hip street. cool huh!
yes, they are still playing...saw them at the One World Theatre in Austin on Sunday and it was HOT! Danced the whole show--just can't sit still! Grateful to have finally seen them after having been too broke or too far away from their shows when I wasn't broke, for the last 30 years.
Why is it suits in the industry don't make full sided platters anymore with one Jam, i remeber listening to Buddy miles n Santanna Band and when I started to play with my boy Charles, we tried to emulated them! hey check out Minnieweather Bass Guitars, there are other great builders out there but don't just take my word baby, theses are Worldclass Basses with Attitude!
Makes me wish it were Summertime here in MN so I could ride the six hrs home to Chitown and catch the Kool Jazz fest! Yea baby! this is why I took Ato sax n Ban class at Wendell Phillips back in 72-73, flunked Sax when sheet got to the point of blowing my High, I was dumb, but thank God Found the Bass thanks to Pete Burke, refined my skills thanks to the late Past. Marv Yancy, RIP w. Love, and later on till now Andrew Gouche, Marvin Isley,Michael Henderson,Jaco,Jamerson etc...
i believe this was from TOP's back to oakland lp--love the sound... its fast and unalterable. and "squib cakes"? i dunno... i'll try anything once, i guess.
F Major. I used this as well as other TOP tunes growing up in the Bay Area. Also, I played baritone sax, just like the doctor...Steve Kupka...of TOP Fame!
Saw them play this live in 1974. They had just come out and were the opening act for War. During Chesters organ solo everybody left the stage-- Just David on drums, Bruce on guitar, and Chester playing the B-3 and kickin the bass pedals. Never heard three guys make so much music in my life.
Wow, what a rare moment! Check out a current band called Soulive. Trio with exactly the same setup, except the keyboardist plays bass keys, clavinet, AND B-3!
Wow, it sounds awesome but it's so weird hearing it this slow.

I meant like as in an actual improvisational jam. Not a structured song like this.
Like if the Grateful Dead used horns.
beaverteeth92 3 years ago
TOP's great calling is that they are so tight. You get "tight" with improvisational jams.
keilwerth29 3 years ago
Well yeah, but I'd imagine it's impossible to improvise in a horns' section though, because they would practically have to be psychic to play the same notes.
beaverteeth92 3 years ago
why would that be? if u have a chord progress than u can improvise on any instrument. am i wrong?
ftgamble 3 years ago 2
Yeah, but an entire horns section would have to be psychic to spontaneously think up the same exact chord progression.
beaverteeth92 3 years ago 2
you obviously never jammed, went to a jam session, or play an instrument at all..
Arnevet 3 years ago 5
cool sky/tree....totally fits the music.

HA HA
ZZbeard 3 years ago
Wait, how do they jam with multiple horns? Do they have to practically read each others' minds so they play the same thing?
Is there a title to this song?
