  • Wow, it sounds awesome but it's so weird hearing it this slow.

  • cool shit

  • ... What can I say? At the moment, Im stoned and just heard this song. I feel resolved. You know, after a great sensation, when you feel flying? Gave me chills. Amazing.

  • kool. but no need to tell us you're high. have a good life.

  • Its ok pietrocalgremio, smoke your herb. Im stoned too man. Tower of power kicks ass.

  • yeah def. not best but very good. Doc's great but he doesn;t really have any of that WOAH!!!! stuff.

  • I,ve been playin harmonica to this tune for 22 years and sounds as good as the day it was concieved sax-da-funk-da-fecta

  • i wouldnt say best deff top 100

  • Love this scene of the summer tree. Reminds me of 1969. Takin time to look at a tree and the natural world.

  • the pitical of instrumental funk rythym & horn works

  • These guys helped me to appreciate FUNK!

Mic Gillette has some crazy footwork on live video I have seen of this being performed.

  • That was Lenny Pickett with the funky footwork, I believe.

  • you'll hear some amazing organ with bass pedal riffin about 5-1/2 into the song. i think the song might bring goosebumps and it's instrumental.&&&&&&&&&&&%%%%%%%%%#####

  • back in the 80's when i first heard this, think i was at the zenith of instrumental euphoria. David Garibaldi is one of the best drummers of the bay area. saw tower in 90. was 16 at the time, and favorite album is east bay grease (1970) pure soulful bliss!

  • Cool

  • If this is the same Tower of Power that did Doin' Alright, why has no one posted it?

  • Squib Cakes!!! WOHOOOO!

po pa pada... papapapapo pa pada...

Docter I need more of your medicine!

  • theses guys are playing for free at alhambra, ca!

    its going to be awesome!!

    can't wait

are all the original members still together

    anyone know?

  • Emilio Castillo, Doc Kupka, David Garibaldi And Francis Rocco Prestia

  • cool thanks

  • Great energy and joy of playing music. Oaktown's best!

  • Oh, I get it! It's the TOP of a tree!!! LOL.

  • I meant like as in an actual improvisational jam. Not a structured song like this.

Like if the Grateful Dead used horns.

  • TOP's great calling is that they are so tight. You get "tight" with improvisational jams.

  • Well yeah, but I'd imagine it's impossible to improvise in a horns' section though, because they would practically have to be psychic to play the same notes.

  • why would that be? if u have a chord progress than u can improvise on any instrument. am i wrong?

  • Yeah, but an entire horns section would have to be psychic to spontaneously think up the same exact chord progression.

  • you obviously never jammed, went to a jam session, or play an instrument at all..

  • cool sky/tree....totally fits the music.

  • HA HA

  • Wait, how do they jam with multiple horns? Do they have to practically read each others' minds so they play the same thing?

Is there a title to this song?

  • Squib cakes

  • Squib Cakes

  • I wonder where a guy could get a hold'o one of those. I hope they come in chocolate.

  • yeah, squib cakes. From back to Oakland album 1974. later that year the album Urban Reneawal they had one kinda like it called walkin' up hip street. cool huh!

  • so so so so sso sososososoosso

    FUNKY!!!

    LOVE IT

they're playing for free this summer in ALHAMBRA, CA

    JUBILLEE

if any of you live nearby its near...umm...Los Angeles!

    can't waittt!

  • yes, they are still playing...saw them at the One World Theatre in Austin on Sunday and it was HOT! Danced the whole show--just can't sit still! Grateful to have finally seen them after having been too broke or too far away from their shows when I wasn't broke, for the last 30 years.

  • Holly crab what the fuck is it??Absolutly amazing.

    love the groove.

  • Dude this is Dave Garibaldi. Russ McKinnon is good too though, I think he was with TOP in the mid 90's.

  • lol i realized that like right afte i posted that comment. i felt so stupid after it.

  • U too ? thanks...

  • May I have seconds on the Sqibs' please...

  • Why is it suits in the industry don't make full sided platters anymore with one Jam, i remeber listening to Buddy miles n Santanna Band and when I started to play with my boy Charles, we tried to emulated them! hey check out Minnieweather Bass Guitars, there are other great builders out there but don't just take my word baby, theses are Worldclass Basses with Attitude!

  • Makes me wish it were Summertime here in MN so I could ride the six hrs home to Chitown and catch the Kool Jazz fest! Yea baby! this is why I took Ato sax n Ban class at Wendell Phillips back in 72-73, flunked Sax when sheet got to the point of blowing my High, I was dumb, but thank God Found the Bass thanks to Pete Burke, refined my skills thanks to the late Past. Marv Yancy, RIP w. Love, and later on till now Andrew Gouche, Marvin Isley,Michael Henderson,Jaco,Jamerson etc...

  • So why can't I find "Sparkling in the Sand?"

  • i was thinking the same thing. is there any old East Bay Grease footage out there? that'd be great.

  • Tower of Power is just too awesome!

  • I grew up listening to TOP on vinyl with my mom! Ahh, memories..

  • Cheers ;-)

  • Si se fijan bien, verán a los músicos en cada rama del arbol. Good Music!!!

  • i believe this was from TOP's back to oakland lp--love the sound... its fast and unalterable. and "squib cakes"? i dunno... i'll try anything once, i guess.

  • Nice Tree and sky....

Love these guys...anyone checked out AniMusic on here yet? That stuff rocks too.

  • Bass is nice, wonder what key it's in...

  • F Major. I used this as well as other TOP tunes growing up in the Bay Area. Also, I played baritone sax, just like the doctor...Steve Kupka...of TOP Fame!

    klen1918

  • love these guys to death!!!

  • Love the band but cud you please

put at least a pic of the band?

    2beers

  • anybody knows where to find the music scores of this album? thanks

  • Saw them play this live in 1974. They had just come out and were the opening act for War. During Chesters organ solo everybody left the stage-- Just David on drums, Bruce on guitar, and Chester playing the B-3 and kickin the bass pedals. Never heard three guys make so much music in my life.

  • Wow, what a rare moment! Check out a current band called Soulive. Trio with exactly the same setup, except the keyboardist plays bass keys, clavinet, AND B-3!

  • yea squib cakes! nice choice.

  • Hot-diggity doggie! I likeed Squib Cakes! Really cool stuff, Allyokay!

  • wow that tree sure is musical

  • hehe

  • Cool that you put Squib Cakes! which is their funkiest together with "Ebony Jam" and "Drop It In The Slot"

  • yes my 2 fav cuts as well man!!!!

  • good thing this is a video...

  • couldnt find a better picture for the music?

  • Long live Docky Baby!

  • the reason you feel better after hearing this riff, is cuz that's the doctor of soul on the barritone sax...doc is the cure man

  • Thank you! I've been searching for "Squib Cakes" in the web an eternity...

  • you're very welcome.

  • Yes! here in Cumbria U.K. you need cool music to cheer up dull days

  • kool music but um...im guessing that this music makes everything feel happy and bring sunny skies (even though the skies were grey most of the time)?
