As a Canadian , I have read and heard about Cherry Red Records and their roster in various imported British music magazines back in the 80s . The only artists from that label that I actually listened to on campus radio and CBC late night radio were Momus and Everything But The Girl ( formerly from Marine Girls ) . Thank you , Cherry Red , for giving me the chance to see artists I never thought I would get to hear in Canada .
Way out with the lyrics Okiedokies. This is what she's really singing: Barefoot by the shore A drink with ice and two straws Sun in a clouded sky You grin as the girls by. Take a boat for a while You row and i lie back in style We'll reach the other side you say But we never get halfway When the evening comes around We'll stroll through a lovely little town Miles and miles from home Happy to be on our own
Yes, you are much closer; she really cuts her words and makes them unclear. If you have the actual songsheet then I cannot argue, but I can't really say your definitely right.
I think these lyrics should have been much clearer as they are high quality. Usually only poor lyrics are covered over.
I'll have to get the album and see the other lyrics if this is the standard.
Ok the 2, 3 and 4th versus sound like this (It is difficult to exactly get the words, but I think they are right) Then the guy showed drank liquid ice with straws under the velvet sky watching the girls go by Take a bird out for a ride do what I like in style when we reach the other side, you say hope we never end love this way When the evening comes around you sure would like a good time all the month of may you can treat me all the way
I'll have to try to work out the rest then soon then, its very very difficult to hear at the end though. You'll have to put the song on you tube. I think there is some small alterations with the verses, such as the first verse I am now sure is
oh my, that's Tracey Thorn, and this sounds absolutely like the Stereolab,i mean the oposite, only just less keyboards, less Farfisas and all that, pure Stereolab kind of vocals and structure, thanks a lot for post this
I adore this! I've never heard of this before today, accidentally stumbling over this video and now I've ordered the box set. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
I've got the Pillows & Prayers album, from way back when.
It's interesting that, along with a Marine Girls song appearing, there are also singles by both Tracey Thorn and Ben Watt. And, even before they formed EBTG, there's a sweet duet by Tracey and Ben.
Hey, indierocketmp3... we own the memories. Marine Girls were incomparable. Lovely people too!

Yes, Yes, Yes. God How I love Marine Girls. So Emotive and simple. It's like instant nostalgia. Brings to mind memories I don't even own.

Imagine a sunny holiday
A little parasol cafe
Corner table for two
And that is me and you
In the second verse it's sun in a cloudless sky
And in the third it's a lamp lit little town

Is that bloke escorting the Marine Girls the saxophonist Timothy Charles Hall?
LiquidKulak 4 years ago
I believe it is indeed.
Great to see Tracey enjoying herself on the rides. And the Foxes were definitely fashion trendsetters. Too bad Gina had split by this point.
What the Marine Girls lacked in ability, they more than made up for with heart and passion.
