  • Hello, Thank you for this video. I made the walnut roll 2 times and 1 bread. They turned out great! My Oma made this every Christmas, I thought I would always remember how to make it , sadly I didn't; so thank you for helping me keep the tradition going for my daughter. You are wonderful.

  • @curlytop713 I'm so happy to hear that my recipe is helping to keep your Oma's tradition alive in your family for future generations. That is all I wanted to do, as my great-grandma left us these recipes and my family never misses to make them every Christmas and Easter. You are very sweet, I hope that you also enjoy the other recipes. You may also visit my websites for more recipes. Take care, and please let me know if you would like to see other recipes. Helen :)

  • Thank you so much for replying! I am also a Hungarian living in the Toronto area. I love your videos. I will be making it on Friday. Very excited!

  • @qteee73 Thank you, iit is great to know that you enjoy my recipes and that you will be trying the beigli recipe on Friday. • @qteee73 Hi, I hope they turned out well and you enjoyed them with your family. It is also one of my family's favourites. I make it every Christmas and Easter. Small world, I also live near Toronto. Take care, Helen

  • Hi :) Could you please tell me how much sugar you added to the walnut and poppyseed before cooking them? I'm so excited to be trying this this week! Koszonom! :)

  • @qteee73 Hi, I'm so glad to see that you are trying this recipe, I'm sure it will be one of your favourites. If you like it try my other recipe called "Walnut Croissant". 2 cups of ground walnuts, 4 tbsp of sugar, 1 vanilla sugar Poppy seed mixture: 2 cups of ground poppy seeds and 5 tbsp of sugar, 1 pack of vanilla sugar, and 1/2 cup raisins (soak in rum). You need to add the lemon as well. It's more traditional if you add some lemon zest as well. Enjoy the recipe, have fun...Helen

  • Thank you so much for showing this recipe! I will make it next week (I adore poppy seed).

  • @aries2803 I'm happy to share my recipes, I hope that your Poppy Seed Roll will turn out beautiful. Let me know how you liked it. Happy New Year

  • You are precious! Your accent reminds me of my Grandma Eigenbrod. For 25 years I have attempted to make nut rolls like I had as a child. Mine always crack open. I have tried different recipes & filling ratio's but rarely have any that turn out pretty. I am excited to try yours. Maybe this will be the year I have beautiful rolls to give as Xmas gifts. Can't wait to view your other video's & share them with my brother. He also loves to cook hungarian dishes from our childhood.

    Thanks & Merry Xmas

  • hey i keep making poppy seed rolls, but whenever i bake them they break open!! :(

    I bake at 410* F for 20mins. any help?

  • @str8sushi Hi, thanks for the question. When you placed it on the baking sheet, pre-heat the oven to 375F. Let the Poppy Seed Roll rest on the baking sheet for 20 more minutes on top of the stove. Then, brush it with egg wash and put it in the oven. Bake it for 20 minutes, then lower the heat to 350F and bake it unitl golden brown. Please let me know. Oh, when you put the filing in it, let the poppy seed cream cool.

  • I'm so happy I could bring back some memories for your husband, that he could surprise him with. It is also wonderful to know that your poppy seed roll turned out well. I hope you will enjoy my other videos as well. Have a wonderful Christmas and Happy New Year.

  • Thank-you for this video. My husband's grandfather came from Hungary and his mother always used to make the poppyseed roll for the family for Christmas. I wanted to surprise him and give it a try. It was very easy after watching you prepare this recipe. It turned out very well.

  • Please let me know how it turned out. I'm sure you and your family will love it. Have a wonderful Holiday Season.

  • Hi. Vanilla sugar is available at the baking isle of your grocery store, where the baking powder and yeast is. It is very inexpensive. Or make your own by taking a washed and dried bottle fill it with regular sugar and putting a vanilla bean in it. You will only need to fill up the sugar as you use it.But if you want to bake sooner and you don't have vanilla sugar, make sure you add the zest and juice of half a lemon to each filling, and the zest of a whole lemon in the dough. Good luck. :)

  • hello i am going to try this tomorrow - ive never heard of vanilla sugar - what else can u use?

also how much lemon? juice of a whole one or half?

    Jess

  • Good luck with the recipe ladies, please ask me if you have any more questions. Have a wonderful Holiday Season.

  • 2 cups o ground walnuts, 4 tablespoon of sugar, 1 vanilla sugar, for the poppy seed mixture, 2 cups of ground poppy seeds and 5 tablespoons of sugar, 1 pack of vanilla sugar, and 1/2 cup raisins (it's better if you soak it in rum). Of course you need to add the lemon as well. It's more traditional if you add some lemon zest as well. Thank you for yoru interest, I hope you will like the recipe.

    1 cup = 200 ml (the measurement I use)

  • hello your so cute i loved the video! what is the measurements of the poppyseeds to raisins & sugar please?

    will try this out tomorrow!

  • For the fillings, What is the amount of ground walnuts in the mixture and how much sugar do I mix it with? The same with the poppy seeds, how much do I grind and how much sugar do I mix it with?

Can't wait to make it, looks very yummy.

    Thanks :)
