They took it so fast...sounds to me like the bass clarinets are struggling to keep up a bit, and the pulses go by awfully quick, too. They're meant to be extended longer than that, aren't they?
Mmkay, obviously I was wrong. =P However, it sounds like there's a bit of tempo messing between the marimba and the voices. The marimba's holding a steady tempo, and it feels like the voices are behind a bit. I think that might've been what I was getting confused on.
though generally i dislike minimilism, like john adams or the dreadful phil glass, i do really enjoy reich. that one piece played by kronos quartet (triple quartet) is pretty cool.
Speak for yourself. I love Reich and Adams, but I can't stand Glass. To each their own, but at the end of the day, for me it doesn't matter how compositionally 'clever' or virtuosic it is, if the end result sounds like shite, and that's what most Glass music does for me.
haha I want it bad! I've transcribed rhythms from Sections 1, 2, 6 and 7 for 'fun', you should copy the score and post it online. Are you a musician in this group? or just a fan?
I'm not a musician in THIS group, but I'm in the "City Life" videos. But the ensemble is so far away that you can hardly see me. I played Sampler 2.
The score is way too big to copy and post online, and as a composer myself, I don't think I could do that to Reich. But I'm almost sure that if you go to your library, you can get it from inter-library loan! You should try - it's worth it! Or if you're near the Boston area, go to the NEC Library. It's definitely there.
mmmmm... i am in love ^_^

Hmmm... compare this tempo to the tempo of the studio recording, then get back to me.

To call Philip Glass "dreadful" is a sign of sheer idiocy.

I find it hard to repeat traids over and over. Only a true composer could write that stuff on paper...

well if you find it hard, you need to work on that. get practising.

I think I really like steve reich, or... his music anyway...

Why do you only 'think'? Have you heard a lot of his stuff? If you're laid back and drama-free, you'd like Steve Reich! He's an amazing man.

Yes - it's a watershed. Have you seen the score?
