  • Where's part 3?

  • I've done all of this and it says it's going to take over 13 hours to install, why is this?

  • love the PRS :-)

  • A PC can take 6 x 8 GB = 48 GB RAM plus 6 x 512 GB = 3 TB of SSD space... What do you say now ? Eat your heart out, Mac !

  • @bigsteamfan Thats crushing to know (even though this is a note book) I may lose sleep over the lack of RAM capabilities.

  • @rabbitphobia Is that the stench of sarcasm I smell or was your comment for real ?

  • @bigsteamfan My friend thats something you are going to have to work out all on your own, just don't lose sleep over it.

  • @rabbitphobia Lol, I won't... I'm sure that those 48 GB of RAM can handle this for me...

  • the 2010 (Mid) MBP isn'T capable of carrying 16 gigs of ram isn't it ? the apple homepage was saying sth about 8 gigs of ram (which i have currently installed)

  • @jdkrs19 he didn't said there was a part 3 ...

  • just checked out the ram you bought, it is now $159.99 :)

  • C'mon Jonathan, Where's Part 3?

  • For all those asking, SATA III 6gb/s is backwards compatible with SATA II 3gb/s, it just wont be as fast.

  • Do you think I'll notice a difference from 8 to 16? I use 3D building modelling.

  • @canascot02 Yes. I edit RAW files in photoshop and it buffers many large files much easier!

  • @kangaroo303 Ok cool thanks for letting me know. I've read in so many places that revit (the bim software i use) will use as much ram as it can get and usually 20x file size

  • Crucial is 600? Why don't you go on over to their site. I think you'll find your mistaken, it's 240 lol, cheaper than what you paid.

  • @canascot02 You will find that if you looked 6 months ago that is was super expensive.

  • @Digikid2007 Really? that's crazy how prices have changed so drastically, apple still has 8gb at like 600$ lol

  • mac fast?

  • That ram is so cheap now. 160! that's the best deal i've come across! all i need now is a macbook pro, lol

  • Where is video 3? Also that ram is now 149USD. WHATTA STEAL!!!

  • Disk utilities want detect my vertex 3. Please help!!! What to do???

  • where is video 3?!

  • Nice video. Where is the next part? Want to see some raid love.

  • Do you breathe?

  • Part 3!!Come on!!

  • Where did you put the second ssd?

  • @JackehTube he took out the super drive

  • now you have gamer laptop.. :) yeah and how about video performance? :)

  • @Niphei It has an AMD Radeon HD 6770M which sucks. Macs is not meant for gaming.

  • Hi man , i recently purchased a patriot pyro 120gb ssd sata 3 , but it seems i can't get it to work over 200mb in read and 150mb i write speeds(i am using a macbook pro mid 2011 15 inch model) and i know that this drive in my windows laptop gets well round 400 mb in write and read speeds .

  • i know that ssds help with battery power on pc laptops...but the battery life on macbook pros are already pretty rad...was there any noticeable difference in life per charge after flipping to a ssd?

  • Hi, This I'm sure will sound a really dumb question, but when you install the OS Lion from the USB flash drive to the new SSD drive will this include all the apps/programs that were pre-installed on the original drive such as iphoto, safari, finder, iMovie etc etc?

  • @Snerkler1 Yep, iPhoto/Safari/iMovie/Finder are the standard apps that come with the os. And Lion being the latest version of the OS, it comes with the latest versions of these (e.g. the iLife 11 packages). After installing the OS you will want to copy over your own files, best way would be to buy a cheap SATA 2.5" external drive enclosure, put your old HDD in that. Now you can just plug it into your laptop and copy your files off (most of which you will find in the "Users\" folder).

  • @GMTDev Thanks for the reply. I already have an external HDD for transferring files, I've just gone through the painstaking task of having to reformat it to FAT32 (as it was NTFS) and copying everything back onto it :-/

  • @Snerkler1 Next time get "NTFS-3G 2011" - its a free driver that lets your mac read and write to NTFS drives.

  • @GMTDev Duly noted, thanks.

  • i agree i have 8 gb of ram and i don't have enough I'm thinking to buy 2 x 8 gb of ram.

  • Can I get a SATA III for my MacBook Pro 13 inch mid 2009? Or is it only compatible with the SATA II?

  • @armaanamirani if the motherboard of a newer machine will fit and has the same ports, that would be the way to do it.

  • will the 16gb kit work in my Macbook Pro mid 2010 model?

  • Nice music!

  • new macbooks will be out by the time part 3 is up ffs....

  • hi nice video if i buy the lion usb from apple

this usb lion is it the same to run the lion after installing the SSD?

    thank you

  • @danielculter84 biggest SDD that i know is 512GB

  • PART 3? I really can't wait!

  • Cool. Ive just ordered almost the same setup, only with the lesser 2,2 i7. Its arriving tomorrow :D Cant wait to replace my slowich late 2008 uni.

  • UNPLUG THE BATTERY BEFORE UNDOING ANYTHING ELSE!!!!!! words of addvice

  • @SirNickyBay nah dont need to

ive done like a million upgrades with the battery in

  • @SirNickyBay No deadly voltages in that machine, even a retarded caps kid like you should know that..

  • @macbookfan33 your missing the bigger picture....idiot, of course a macbooks battery cant kill you....unless you were to maybe ingested it...

but your risking unnecessary possible damage which could lead to short circuiting your system by...lets say doping a metal object that connects 2 circuits on your mobo

  • @SirNickyBay the battery inside the newer MacBooks are not user removable.

  • @thatsnazzyappleguy unplug >.< not remove....

  • @SirNickyBay you can't unplug it before removing it. do you mean unplugging the Magsafe Power adapter?

  • @SirNickyBay IT VOIDS THE WARRANT YOU SILLY GOOSE

  • @tldtoday Will we see Part 3 anytime soon?

  • @TEVillegas theres nothing else to upgrade lol

  • @TEVillegas nm to wahat i said. whoops

  • funny how american pronunce Giga ..G i ga:)) it's G no G:))I

  • the ram is $160 now

  • Hey man, i want to upgrade my MacBook Pro 15in (Mid 2010) with a OCZ VERTEX 3 SATA III 2.5" SSD (not the Max IOPS). Is there any compatibility problem that you know? Thanks

  • how can u get that much ram in the computer?? i have 4gb and apple says thats the most it can handle how can i put in more without cause problems to my laptop?

  • @LMDNYC82 It depends on which laptop you have.

  • does the macbook pro really support 16 gbs of ram cause on the apple website it says it only does 8?

  • @FilipinoAsianRex some new unibodys do, yes

  • @FilipinoAsianRex some new unibodys do

  • @FilipinoAsianRex some new unibody macBook Pro do

  • Will you get iLife back for free when you reinstall Lion from the USB ?

  • next part please

  • I love ur video ! its perfect !!!!!!

  • @nathanrohler at the time that he did this prices of RAM were considerably higher

  • when is part three coming :( :( my parts are coming this friday!

  • show me how raid works with part three please

  • As far as i remember, the Port1 where the optical drive is connected to has only SATA 1.5 Gigabit instead of the 3.0 Gigabit on the Port0. However, how the hell does 16GB Ram fitt in there? I tought efi only recognizes max. 8GB on Unibodys and max. 6GB on Aluminum?

  • its $169 now.. sucks

  • i am thinking for the agility3. what do u think?

  • BenchMarking ?

  • This is a monster :)

  • are u satisfied with the sad agility 3??

  • i have the disk with all iLife 11 apps that came with the laptop. can i install them to the lion. when i bought the laptop it has snow leopard on it.

  • @charalambous94 Yes you can. And if the software is 9.X, then you can also update them for free!

  • WHERE IS PART 3!

  • @thecatsgonewild Bullshit. Unless the stock price was wallet-raping.

  • I followed every process step by step and now my OS keeps failing to install HELP PLEASE!!!

    Levi@asociete.com

  • Part 3 plzzz!! :)

  • Part 3 needs to come soon :(

  • why do you refer to your computer as "your macbook pro"? idk it comes off as pretentiousness to myself.. its a computer

  • you nutty mac people and your 300 dollar ram:P

  • You dont actually need a thumb drive with lion, you could just buy a usb enclosure for your hdd and boot up by external lion recovery... Thumbs up :)))

  • PART 3 x( !!!!

  • Where's the striped goodness at John?

  • 16GB of RAM 299,00 damn dude.

That's like a video card, that's like 10 times better than the best MacBook Pro GPU.

  • the like button is blue ...

  • Quick tip: OCZ SSD's suck massive balls. Check the OCZ forums, full of dead SSD threads.

  • @hatspencer they are actually really good

  • @Hyzing Yes I don't argue about performance, but they are unreliable. (Also not only OCZ SSD's are unreliable, a lot of the manufacturers produce crap which does not last a year)

  • Where's the next one plz I'm not trying to be rude I know keeping up a YouTube channel is difficult but if you could upload part 3 that would be anazing

  • PART 3 PLEASE

    :)

  • @Chrisisjustthatcool waitin since 4 weeks for this.. i guess... it doesnt work :P

  • so.... you dont ground yourself before you take apart your macbook? ok... whatever its your computer man

  • Hey just wanted to thank you for these set of videos they inspired me to do the same to my Macbook Pro and with Black Friday and Cyber Monday I was able to complete putting in 8gb of ram and an OCZ Vertex 3 ssd into it and I have seen massive speed improvements

  • Jonathan I NEED HELP!!!! Please respond. One of the screws on my MBP seems to be screwed in way tighter than every other one. I got every screw out except this one and i stripped the screw somewhat. i figure you probably have a fix or some experience with this so could you PLEASE help me

  • Ram only $200 now lol

  • y u no give us part 3

  • Hahaa, the memory's on for 219.99 now

  • I just bought a SATA 3 vertex 3 for my MacBook 08 aluminum edition will it work properly on mine

  • Will this work on an early 2011 mbp 15" i7? someone was saying the voltage might be different?

  • Does this void your warranty? Like could i still take it to the apple store if something goes wrong after i install it? Please respond, thanks.

  • the ram is now 219$!!!! XD

  • great video very informative and entertaining to watch

cool music you are a pro musician?

  • Come on, part 3 already!

  • 24000 views

  • Hey Jonathon, what sort of external hard drive are you using in this video for transferring files. It looks very cool with the purple lights and all.

  • is the superdrive also sata3?? i bought my mbpro in april 2011 and i want to remove my superdrive so i can install a 2nd ssd

  • Hey man love the video and no i am not going to ask you about the Ram i think you have covered that many times. Did you enable the trim control or are you running without it.

  • will the early 2011 mac book pro be able to use SATA 3.0?

also if i put in 2 hds how do i put it in raid

  • will the early 2011 mac book pro be able to use SATA 3.0?

  • FYI, Crucial says the 6Gb/s is "Guaranteed-compatible with the Apple MacBook Pro 2.66GHz Intel Core 2 Duo (17-inch DDR3) MB604LL/A" (it's a 2009)

    Nice video!

  • @RailsTube It's not that it's not compatible, it just won't take advantage of SATA III speeds.

  • @tldtoday when will part 3 come and how do i put it in raid

  • @tldtoday thought i might tell you this

this guy has re uploading this vid

    /watch?v=JhevJAM4HS0&feature=related

  • @tldtoday when are you goeing to install the data doubler just wandering

  • @tldtoday Dude WHERE IN THE WORLD IS PART 3?

  • @tldtoday I have the Crucial M4 in my late 2011 MBP and it most definitely takes advantage of SATA III speeds. More specifically - 507Mb/s read and 273Mb/s write. I wish the write was faster.

  • Would You please make a video of how to enable trim on a non apple SSD Thank you in advance. and is trim really necessary to keep the performance on you SSD good

  • I have a late 2008 macbook aluminum and i was wondering what kind of ram to get. Could someone please help me out. Thx

  • @heybrotherly23 Check out macsales dot com. They have an entire site to help you find RAM for your 2008 MacBook Pro. Crucial is a good brand. The best price will most likely be at newegg dot come or amazon. Good luck.

  • Can you do the fastest imac in the world next ?

  • this guy is using your video ---> [ /watch?v=JhevJAM4HS0]

  • What's the other guy's name?

  • Alien Ware forever!!

  • When you have 128 GB SSD, how much memory is there on your computer? :) Because 128 do not sound like much.. :)

  • jon did you change sata mode from ahci from ide that will give you true speed

  • How can you make sure the memory you buy will work in the 2011 Macbook Pro? It gets a little confusing with all the numbers and SoDIMM and all that. What exactly should I be looking for?

  • @killamanjaro306 ya it is I buy online from OWC because their products are organized by computer model.

  • @killamanjaro306 For the 2011 models you're looking for DDR3, SODIMM, 1333MHz. SODIMM = laptop size RAM.

  • @killamanjaro306 If your MacBook Pro Model Identifier is 8,1 or 8,2 or 8,3 it can handle 16GB of RAM.

  • Awesome video! Can wait to see the performance specs with the RAID config! Thumbs UP!

  • hey why did your giveaway vid get taken down? :/ i clicked it and it said "scam or misleading *something*"

  • MAIN DRIVE - SATA 6 Gigabit Capable (which is at Port 0)

OPTICAL DRIVE - ONLY SATA 3 Gigabit Capable (which is at Port 2)

Is this true, if so your raiding plan will not work.

    Great videos keep them coming

  • I honestly don't own any apple products, not even an iPod, but this video is too informative to click out off.

    Your a hero <3

  • does the ram affect the battery life at all?

  • Comment removed

  • i thought you can only have 8 gbs of ram in macbook pro

  • @ps3spoiler Officially you can, but Intel tend to downplay the real maximum RAM addressing their chipsets can handle from time to time. The Mac Pro for example can take 128GB of the stuff no problem, but officially 64GB is the "max". I'd guess price is the factor, at least for the Mac Pro. The 16GB DIMMs you'd need for 128 are over a grand each lol.

  • @ps3spoiler wrong you can have 16 gb

  • @ps3spoiler Thats what Apple wants you to think ;)

  • 0:03 listen carefully, he says "hard deuce"

  • @ejlegro He said ''part deuce''. Deuce is two in French, he meant it's the second video of this series.

  • @yugoboy17 actually deux means two in french.

  • @TheSrly Oh yes your right xD But he meant ''2'' :p My french is crap, but I still understoot what he meant. :p

  • How come you sold your iMac?
