the 2010 (Mid) MBP isn'T capable of carrying 16 gigs of ram isn't it ? the apple homepage was saying sth about 8 gigs of ram (which i have currently installed)
@kangaroo303 Ok cool thanks for letting me know. I've read in so many places that revit (the bim software i use) will use as much ram as it can get and usually 20x file size
Hi man , i recently purchased a patriot pyro 120gb ssd sata 3 , but it seems i can't get it to work over 200mb in read and 150mb i write speeds(i am using a macbook pro mid 2011 15 inch model) and i know that this drive in my windows laptop gets well round 400 mb in write and read speeds .
i know that ssds help with battery power on pc laptops...but the battery life on macbook pros are already pretty rad...was there any noticeable difference in life per charge after flipping to a ssd?
Hi, This I'm sure will sound a really dumb question, but when you install the OS Lion from the USB flash drive to the new SSD drive will this include all the apps/programs that were pre-installed on the original drive such as iphoto, safari, finder, iMovie etc etc?
@Snerkler1 Yep, iPhoto/Safari/iMovie/Finder are the standard apps that come with the os. And Lion being the latest version of the OS, it comes with the latest versions of these (e.g. the iLife 11 packages). After installing the OS you will want to copy over your own files, best way would be to buy a cheap SATA 2.5" external drive enclosure, put your old HDD in that. Now you can just plug it into your laptop and copy your files off (most of which you will find in the "Users\" folder).
@GMTDev Thanks for the reply. I already have an external HDD for transferring files, I've just gone through the painstaking task of having to reformat it to FAT32 (as it was NTFS) and copying everything back onto it :-/
@macbookfan33 your missing the bigger picture....idiot, of course a macbooks battery cant kill you....unless you were to maybe ingested it...
but your risking unnecessary possible damage which could lead to short circuiting your system by...lets say doping a metal object that connects 2 circuits on your mobo
Hey man, i want to upgrade my MacBook Pro 15in (Mid 2010) with a OCZ VERTEX 3 SATA III 2.5" SSD (not the Max IOPS). Is there any compatibility problem that you know? Thanks
how can u get that much ram in the computer?? i have 4gb and apple says thats the most it can handle how can i put in more without cause problems to my laptop?
@FilipinoAsianRex Apple lies! to see the true amount of ram each mac can take download an app called mactracker. it is an archive that has information of every apple product EVAR!
As far as i remember, the Port1 where the optical drive is connected to has only SATA 1.5 Gigabit instead of the 3.0 Gigabit on the Port0. However, how the hell does 16GB Ram fitt in there? I tought efi only recognizes max. 8GB on Unibodys and max. 6GB on Aluminum?
You dont actually need a thumb drive with lion, you could just buy a usb enclosure for your hdd and boot up by external lion recovery... Thumbs up :)))
@Hyzing Yes I don't argue about performance, but they are unreliable. (Also not only OCZ SSD's are unreliable, a lot of the manufacturers produce crap which does not last a year)

Hey man love the video and no i am not going to ask you about the Ram i think you have covered that many times. Did you enable the trim control or are you running without it.
I have the 15' macbook pro late 2011 with 2,4 ghz, can you tell me how to upgrade my vertex 3 max iops 240 gb from version 2.08 to 2.15 without having to exchange the ssd? Can you make a video please ;)
@tldtoday I have the Crucial M4 in my late 2011 MBP and it most definitely takes advantage of SATA III speeds. More specifically - 507Mb/s read and 273Mb/s write. I wish the write was faster.
Would You please make a video of how to enable trim on a non apple SSD Thank you in advance. and is trim really necessary to keep the performance on you SSD good
@heybrotherly23 Check out macsales dot com. They have an entire site to help you find RAM for your 2008 MacBook Pro. Crucial is a good brand. The best price will most likely be at newegg dot come or amazon. Good luck.
How can you make sure the memory you buy will work in the 2011 Macbook Pro? It gets a little confusing with all the numbers and SoDIMM and all that. What exactly should I be looking for?
@ps3spoiler Officially you can, but Intel tend to downplay the real maximum RAM addressing their chipsets can handle from time to time. The Mac Pro for example can take 128GB of the stuff no problem, but officially 64GB is the "max". I'd guess price is the factor, at least for the Mac Pro. The 16GB DIMMs you'd need for 128 are over a grand each lol.
