i love the build ups... every one of glens songs in either the frames or swell season has a build up, this is my favourite along side "in these arms" from ONCE. thumbs up for both bands!

mostly when i watch hollywood movies nowadays they are sooo crap i fall asleep... but this was magnititiing, best film ive seen in many of years regardless of budget size....
and one of my favourite films ever maybe even favourite..... so real and perfect... the acting was amazing the songs were amazing, ending couldve been a bit better.
This song is where I am right now. The moment you decide to change the course of your life because the one you believed in became unbelievable. A new future awaits.

I love these two!! amazing. I can listen over and over again. To the person who said it was crappy, something is wrong with you it was a great movie, just because something is low budget does not make it crap.
I heard about this movie from "Falling Slowly" when it came on VH1 one morning when i was getting ready for school. 4 years later my Lit teacher tells us we are watching the movie and I just was so happy this is a really good movie I see why it has recieved and been nominated for many awards. Also I love this song it's the first song in my MP3 playlist. The day I heard this song I got it ASAP
I loved this scene in the movie. You can see the sly smile on the studio owner's face as he was producing it - its so obvious that he was thinking "woah, this is awesome".

Great song and great performance---beat song of many great songs in this movie---kudos to glen hansard and markita irglova---they deserved the oscar for their great song in this movie "Falling Slowly"
This my friends is REAL MUSIC! just when you lose hope in finding truly great singer/songwriter , along comes Glen Hansard belting out this tune with the most heart and soul I have heard in many years...A true pleasure to hear and see.....Brilliant.
@seamogger Part of what makes it great is the "amateur" video. They had legit operators with little equipment. I'm sure Hansard, the producer and the director chose to have the shaky, handheld, look, rather than spend $3,000 on steadicam rentals. It makes the film look a bit like a documentary, more realistic in a way. Also they shot without permits in most outdoor shots, so they hid the camera and used very long lenses, so it could look like they were close, but gaining a lot more shakiness.
Love this song, it brings tears of joy to my eyes every time...and that's exactly what its supposed to do. Its arranged to pull every string it can, from withholding the drums until the second verse to the tinkle of the piano to that building roar. Add in the visuals of the sound tech, casual, reading a paper to fully engaged and smiling. Brilliant, beautiful.
No number of trolls and their negative comments can dilute the emotion in this song. This is what bliss is all about. This is raw emotion at the peak of intensity. This is honesty that can only come from a heart that's known what love is. Absolute delight!!!
@empiretotalwarnoob9 Yeah I am a big sci fi fan, but I only got to catch the end of this movie two or three times on hbo.. so I finally bought the dvd, this is by far my favorit movie..
The love, knowing it won't be consumated. They're manifesting their feelings into music and words. One of the most beautiful songs/flicks seen/heard in years.
i was having a dream one night and i woke up to the climax of this song in tears and i was dreamin about my ex, and the lyrics are so intertwined with our relationship.... his vocals, the drums the melody is soo moving i couldnt get out of bed, i was in tears, a true artist who purs his heart and soul into every performance
Yes, this is really a great song. The bass and drums propel the song to the next level and then the singer takes it even further, it is relentless and uncontainable, a force of a song to be reckoned with. It is an example of the total being a lot more than just the sum of its parts. Some magic was going on there.
To me, this scene shows the power of music being made in a group, the build up, the momentum, how every instrument carries the group and how, at the same time, the result is a boost for every musician.
And BTW, very sweet bass line and very nice drumming.
This is a wonderfully beautiful song that touches my heart very deeply…I love songs when the vocalist will sing there heart out…and this man sings his heart out for sure… you know that when they do the song is well worth your time to listen to it…and once you do you will find out that you just can’t get enough of it. So meaningfully…beautiful!!!SunShine!!!
MARKMUSICMAN,you say you have worked in the music business for 30 years yet you say your 26 years old.You say you strive for perfection yet you can't play the right notes to the simplest song ever ,Stairway.you've subscribed tosomething like 849 viewers and 99.9999% are young girls.Have lying and trying to make other people look bad ever got you anywhere yet in life?By the way the duet sounded good and full sounding and had a good message. Some people have their minds made up to never learn, sad.
This song is fantastic, I don't listen to as much as I used, it brings back a lot!!! Regarding pure emotion you'll not find many better. If you watch closely there is a lot of emotion between both. Glen's is impossible to miss, but you sense a great sense of sadness in Marketa. I am told that the movie & the songs were taken directly from present experience between them. Is this true?
@rgerrity07 They did begin a relationship after the film, which is now over as a romance, but they still perform together and are currently on tour. They are a group known as The Swell Season.
@Pstofish Thank-You for your answer, I guess it shoots a hole in my theory, but then again more than a few actors have immersed so deeply in the roll they play that it seeps into their everyday. I think The Classic Movie: The French Lieutenant's Women with Meryl Streep & Jeremy Irons portrays this in a fictional sort of way. Anyway thanks for the info
@rgerrity07 I see you're in the STates...they are touring there at the moment...and all through July and August. Have a look at their web site, you might be able to catch them somewhere.
@bgv3311 It is not weird at all. This is such a sad song infused with such powerful & raw emotions I would think it strange if you did not well up a bit.
no matter what you've made up your mind to do, nothing happens until you've had a change of HEART. THAT'S where the super glue is. it, in the end, has the final say.

@utubin67 hey :) i mean the way people assume (myself included) they can suss somebody out in an instant. its not untill you actually sit back and give them a chance that you realise theres something special about them. i love the way they sounded so awfull warming up, but then as soon as they start the song its instant goosbumps...when the sound guy finally noticed, i was about ready to jump off my chair and shout at him lol
This scene really exemplifies the necessity of having good drums and bass. The progression of this song is brilliant. The entrance of the drums and bass grab your attention then Glen and Marketa crank up the heat blow it up!
One of the best parts in the movie is when the recording guy is sitting there like great another bunch of loosers in here to waste my time...... then they blow his mind. Little parts like this always make me laugh out loud.
This is such a breath-taking song. And the best thing about this song is the way it's played - the whole band really gives their everything and that's what it sounds like.
when your drunk n listenin to this song.....every sound produced by the guitar or the drums or any intrument ant the artists they seem divine and celestial.....its one kickass of a song.....get plastered and njoy this genius composition....
When i first saw this movie at the Dendy Cinema in King st Newtown Sydney Australia, I knew then that this is a keeper,

The best moment in a film full of little gorgeous scenes. When the soundboard guy wakes up and hears the song. Transcendent.

@nighthawk584 I'd include "Take Five" by the Dave Brubeck Quartet in that list... :)

This is such a breath-taking song. And the best thing about this song is the way it's played - the whole band really gives their everything and that's what it sounds like.
