  • How can i Clean The algae From My Sand?

  • Holy shit.... Amazing Coraline you have there... do tangs eat it?

  • you could have just bought a tang..... they eat that stuff.

  • @teddybearssuck Unfortunatley they don't eat hair algae. However sea hares do.

  • wow your LR is so beautiful and purple...i made all mine so far it looks like a pile of concrete but hopefully someday itll look like this. nice tank

  • how much live rock do you have? Also how much live rock do you think a 55 gallon reef should have? New at this and kinda clueless???

  • @blairfritz About 100#

  • You didn't cycle the tank after you put the fresh RO/DI water back in?

  • @Theboardsurfer No there was not a cycle, bacteria lives in rocks, sand and on glass and any other surface. Really doesn't live or stay suspended in water. You can change 100% of you water and it will not cause a cycle.

  • @lazylivin THANK YOU i do 100% about once every 3 months the only thing you have to do is take the corals down to the lowest point you dont really do 100 percent you just leave a little bit in the bottom to keep the coral wet

  • what kind of lighting you using and how many day hours you use them? Nice coraline.

  • @pintor80 2x250w MH and 2x54w T5

  • about how many watts i wanna start my reef tank

  • lol

  • I'm just trying to let everone know that some aquarium manufacturers might be trying to pull one over on us. All I can say try it for yourself.

  • Some 55 gallon tanks really only hold 45 gallons.

  • then it would be a 45 gallon tank......

  • No, I bought a brand new 55 gallon aqueon tank and only 45 one gallon jugs of distilled water went into it.

  • wow. very weird:)

  • yeah, because you have rocks and shit in it... duhhhh

  • the sand and the live rock push the water up so it is not exactly 55 gallons

  • I bought a new 55 gallon aqueon tank and to my supprise it only held 45 gallons. Then to put in 60 lbs of live rock I had to take out about 5 gallons of water. I counted every gallon because I wanted to know exactly how much water I was dealing with.

  • 231 cubic inches in a gallon. Do the math and see for sure

  • is your lighting and other equipment the same as the other vid with the algae problem..

  • heyy i need a answer from u guys i have a 55g tank and i want to do a saltwater reef how much money do u think i will have to spend?

  • i have a 55 gallon and have spent over $1000 on it.....

  • yea. i would guess about 1500. dont try to switch unless you have enough money!

  • that's pretty cool. i have a 20 gallon. i'm not quite at the stage for a salt water tank. maybe when i get farther along

  • i love purple algae

  • Wheres the FTS?

  • Nice job with the algae removal! I had a really bad outbreak myself in my 40g a couple years ago. I got away with not owning a protein skimmer for a few years until the algae got out of hand... then I bought a skimmer, and voila! After about two weeks, the algae was gone. I may have been lucky though.

  • good looking tank I just started a 55 gallon reef tank a couple of months ago. I am going to post videos soon

  • Wish I could get rid of my hair algae it's driving me insane !!!!! tried everything. Toothbrush, Mega water changes, phosphate removers, cleaning crew, Lawnmower Blennie - still no bloody joy !!!!!

  • hey bro calm down get a water snail thay wil

repurduce by hem self and in no time thay wil kill off anay algae in the water by about 4 weeks u can get them at anay pet stor i have like 20 all from just 1 snail thay are a-sex thay multiply so do that

  • Tell me, i've just started the marine hobby and am wondering how long the green and brown algae (not hair algae) will rule the tank until the coralline algae takes over? am adding cycled rock to already established tank , it's a 46 gallon and so far have 30 lbs live rock. any tips greatly appreciated!

  • Keep your alkalinity to 8-10 and use a good salt with decent calcium level and plenty of snails and crabs and you should have complete Coraline encrusted rock in 1 year. Once it starts growing it can do so pretty rapidly.

    Good Luck

  • wow thanks! when you say plenty of snails and crabs how many exactly? i have two astro snails and about 4 hermit crabs...do i need more?

  • Yes I think you need more. For 30 pounds of live rock go with about 20 small blue legged crabs or red legged. For 55 gallon (glass to clean) tank you will need about 20-40 snails. However it depends on how fast you develop algae. You should be able to find them on sale for about .65 cents each.

  • thank you so much, been a HUGE help!

  • They say 1 snal or 1 crab to each gallon

  • I have it on my rocks but I scrape it off the glass

  • Great looking coraline aglae!! What type of lighting are you using?

  • 2 250w SE 20k Metal Halide's

  • nice aquascaping.

  • how did you get rid of the hair algae?

  • Click More Info to see how I got rid of the Algae.

    Thanks

  • wow! beautiful what kinda live rock are u using and how did u get the coraline algae to grow everywhere?

    did u use purple up?

  • Thank you Jayson, It is all Walt Smith Fiji and I do use purple up. After you get your Calcium to optimal levels Purple is great because it has everything needed for good Coraline growth. I also attribute the Coraline growth to Phosobuster which keeps my Phosphate level very low. And lots of Snails and Blue or Red Leg Hermits. I have about 50 of each and have to replenish about a year to year and half due to die off janitors.
