@Theboardsurfer No there was not a cycle, bacteria lives in rocks, sand and on glass and any other surface. Really doesn't live or stay suspended in water. You can change 100% of you water and it will not cause a cycle.
@lazylivin THANK YOU i do 100% about once every 3 months the only thing you have to do is take the corals down to the lowest point you dont really do 100 percent you just leave a little bit in the bottom to keep the coral wet

I bought a new 55 gallon aqueon tank and to my supprise it only held 45 gallons. Then to put in 60 lbs of live rock I had to take out about 5 gallons of water. I counted every gallon because I wanted to know exactly how much water I was dealing with.
Nice job with the algae removal! I had a really bad outbreak myself in my 40g a couple years ago. I got away with not owning a protein skimmer for a few years until the algae got out of hand... then I bought a skimmer, and voila! After about two weeks, the algae was gone. I may have been lucky though.
Wish I could get rid of my hair algae it's driving me insane !!!!! tried everything. Toothbrush, Mega water changes, phosphate removers, cleaning crew, Lawnmower Blennie - still no bloody joy !!!!!
repurduce by hem self and in no time thay wil kill off anay algae in the water by about 4 weeks u can get them at anay pet stor i have like 20 all from just 1 snail thay are a-sex thay multiply so do that
Tell me, i've just started the marine hobby and am wondering how long the green and brown algae (not hair algae) will rule the tank until the coralline algae takes over? am adding cycled rock to already established tank , it's a 46 gallon and so far have 30 lbs live rock. any tips greatly appreciated!
Keep your alkalinity to 8-10 and use a good salt with decent calcium level and plenty of snails and crabs and you should have complete Coraline encrusted rock in 1 year. Once it starts growing it can do so pretty rapidly.
Yes I think you need more. For 30 pounds of live rock go with about 20 small blue legged crabs or red legged. For 55 gallon (glass to clean) tank you will need about 20-40 snails. However it depends on how fast you develop algae. You should be able to find them on sale for about .65 cents each.
Thank you Jayson, It is all Walt Smith Fiji and I do use purple up. After you get your Calcium to optimal levels Purple is great because it has everything needed for good Coraline growth. I also attribute the Coraline growth to Phosobuster which keeps my Phosphate level very low. And lots of Snails and Blue or Red Leg Hermits. I have about 50 of each and have to replenish about a year to year and half due to die off janitors.
