  • I might be rescuing a Maine coon soon! Can't wait!

  • I had a female maine coon live to 18. They are a great breed. Not your typical annoying cat. They love people and are big and beautiful.

  • this isnt an american cat, it was originally brought from europe and breeded in america, but whatever, silly americans ;)

  • @SaucisseMerguez Oh, be quiet.

  • i love them

  • I had a beautiful orange tabby Maine Coon named Fred. He was the sweetest most beautiful cat I had ever seen. I had him for seven years and he died a couple months ago. I miss my sweet kitty so much! :_(

  • @ComicBookChick1 I'm so sorry for your loss. I lost my Maine Coon four years ago and I miss him and think of him every day. They are all so sweet, loving and beautiful. I am sure you gave Fred a beautiful life.

  • What beautiful cat and music... May i know the title of the music?

  • I'm not sure how they got all those kittens to line up and look in the same general direction, but it must be wizardry.

  • My MC Bubbles is 8 yo, and doesnt like to be held, but just petted on the head, or she will bite. Is this normal or is she sick

  • @tratra8888 This is a personal individual cat preference for whatever reason. Respect it please. Never force your desires on a cat. You will lose!

  • @broadsurf

Totally agree with broadsurf1. Cats are as individual as us, and by the way one of mine is the same way with the petting. She gets ALL upset if I touch her when she doesn't want it. We just have to learn their likes and dislikes, same as with humans. We are all connected...

  • @tratra8888 This is normal based on the breed of your cat. Maine Coone's are more individual prone.

  • @tratra8888 nice name :-) my maine coon is not a lapcat either but they can warm to it sometimes, when they lash out smile and call them cheeky catty and then blink at them in a relaxed way to calm them and they will eventually become more gentle, my cat used to strike with claws but now he doesnt claw and its more a playful thing but indeed some cats dont enjoy being picked up this is completely normal

  • @tratra8888

My cat is a diva as well but whenever she gets hungry or wants something trust me they will be all in your lap. Don't starve the cat but put food in its bowl less to the point where it is asking you for food. It will eventually have to approach you more. The more it approaches you the more comfortable it will be with you holding it etc. My cat will let anybody hold her now didn't always used to be that way.

  • @tratra8888 She could be in pain. My old cat is arthritic and she hates to be carried. Why don´t you get her checked.

  • Мейны:D моя страсть! У меня дома есть Мейн голубого цвета:) Очень добрый. и мой самый любимый котик:*

  • @PolkaSalvatore Translation by Google: Maine: D is my passion! At home I have a blue Maine:) Very good. and my favorite cat:

  • i had a Maine Coon cat named Tinkerbell and she was the sweetest cat ever and i miss her alot right now cause i had to have her put down cause she went blind and she quit eating and drinking water.she only weighed 5 lbs when i had her put down and i wished that i had got to hold her when they gave her the shot.

  • @wantsababy2006 Sweet comment. I feel for you.

  • @broadsurf aww ty lots.she's been dead for a year and 2 months now.she was the best cat and sweetest cat i ever had as a pet.i got her for my birthday so i could have a cat of my own to take care of.i'm nothing without her cause she would always follow me and meow.i might try to get another cat like her but i'm just afraid that the same thing will happen to the next one that i get.

  • @wantsababy2006

I'm so sorry for your loss - I know what it's like to lose a beloved kitty. Please consider giving another cat (or two) a forever home with you. Don't worry about the same thing happening to your next cat - each experience is different. We all die eventually, but it is the life we are living now that is so worthwhile. I had a cat who blessed my life for 19 years!

  • @wantsababy2006

I'm so sorry you had to go through that. I had the vet come to our house for our boy, heartbreaking but I held him to his last breath.

  • Wonderful Video!... Maine Coons are so beautiful and have the most interesting personality and sweetest disposition. They are truly the "Gentle Giant"

  • @gabbydeb Maine Coons are the most popular cat breed on my reckoning because they have all the attributes of the best cat companion.

  • @broadsurf Yes They Do!... My Annie is my little companion

  • Beautifully done vid......Maine Coons are the most gorgeous cats, I always thought they have the cutest profiles because of how their fur is around their head and neck!

  • @qt632 Thank you.

  • Maine Coon cats are easily found in shelters...do a Petfinder search for "domestic long hair" and you'll be amazed! As long as you know what to look for in a Maine Coon cat, you'll be successful. I adopted two MC kitens at my local shelter. They look like full Maine Coons, but even if they're not who cares when they have all the characteristics and wonderfully sweet personality! Don't support 'backyard' breeders, as they are not reputable. Also check out Maine Coon Rescue. Good luck!

  • @yikes888 Excellent comment. Thank you for taking the time to write it.

  • @yikes888

"Maine Coon cats are easily found in shelters"

Thank you for that sensible comment. I adopted Amber as a kitten from a cat shelter and didn't even know what a Main Coon was. When the 20th person walked past my house and said "Oh look! It's a Main Coon!", I decided to look it up on the internet, and saw pictures of Amber. All the responses that I've had on the net so far are "If it doesn't have pedigree papers, then it's not a MC". Are the papers (not the cat) is the defining feature?

  • @Hammersley1967

Thank you for the kind words. Your Amber sounds beautiful - can you post a photo? I think it's pretty silly when people say that "if it doesn't have papers, then it's not an MC". There are plenty of Maine Coon cats that are not 'pedigreed'. The cat is the defining factor, in my opinion. My cats have ALL the characteristics of Maine Coon cats, and that works for me. Remember, these cats were wild for a long time and happily spread their DNA all over the US - lucky for us!!

  • @yikes888

    I just did that.

My late boss cat, SpencerTheLion (Manx/Persian) died and several months later a shelter had an orange/white Maine Coon that had a striking resemblance only larger. Spencer II is learning to be as michievious as his predecessor.

  • @CleanMPGcom

Your new Spencer II sounds magnificent - can you post a photo?

  • @yikes888

He is 18-20 pounds instead of 8-12 pounds, and from the picture looks classic Maine Coon in the face, ears, eyes, trill, body build, fur, personality...only thing is he has a furry tail, but not near as plush as a raccoon or the MCs at the shows.

  • @yikes888

    Really nice comment :-)

  • Beautiful !!!

  • Maine Coons= pure gorgeousness and love:) Lovely video:) I have 3 cats, 1 which is a Maine Coon named Jingles....he always makes me smile:)

  • im pretty sure a maine coon cat is on the cover of Pet Semetary by Stephen King. spooky

  • Love.

  • i have a maine coon he was a stray and i took him in. he is such a sweetheart his name is cheesecake.

  • I LOVE Maine Coons!!!! I believe they are one of the most intelligent breed of cat. My Maine coon "Oscar" tries to talk to me! lol

  • I had a Maine Coon, I called him Franklin, I found him on the street as a 3month old baby, he was so skinny and dirty. I was going shopping with my mom and I saw him and instantly took him home so i only ended up shopping for the things he needed after the vet visit...but a year later he died because of cancer...it was an amazing cat, very loyal and it did everything with me, also it was very friendly to my friends. he looked like the cat at 1:41. Indeed Main Coon are beautiful animals

  • @MsRockFlower Well done for giving him a nice life for the last year of his life. It is a sad and happy story at the same time. For me it is more sad that happy.

  • Beautiful cats and the most dramatic whiskers I have seen!

  • @Valkyrie91a

Main coons have the longest whiskers of any domestic cat breed. Just so you know.

  • they are so pretty, I'm wondering about the price?

  • @Leyla1952 They will be standard purebred cat price but dependent on quality. Most of the cats in the video are show cats. Sometimes, rarely, they are in cat rescue centers!

  • They have never proven exactly how the Maine coon arrived in North America. There is that story about Marie Antoinette's advance party offloading French cats in Maine, and other ideas about early settlers bringing cats from Europe, but it is more likely that earlier Viking explorations along the St. Lawrence River carried Norwegian Forest cats who escaped into the wild. Cats were common on board ships because they controlled the rat population and did not slide off the deck like dogs did.

  • @Audinos I agree with all you say and thank you for making a nice comment.

  • originally from france though. beautiful kitties!!!

  • @ismaelsbaby Yes, the long haired cats from Europe are the originators of the Maine Coon but I guess when a cat has been in a country for 400 years and been developed and evolved in that country over that time you can say it belongs to the country. I hope you agree.

  • The Maine Coon, a cat in a fur coat in a fur coat. It is a fur coat for its fur coat.

But best of all, Maine Coons are gentle cats. I have a Maine Coon of my own. Big 18 pound male who is always attention hungry, lazy for at least half of the day, crazy energized during the other half, and likes chasing the other cat in the house whenever he has the opportunity. He is very shy of people though.

  • Our nation's crowning achievement! Forget the moon landing ... :) Beautiful kitties.

  • @zamaz99 Yes, the Maine Coon is the best domestic cat breed in the world and the most popular - America's crowning achievement as you say. They are a very impressive looking domestic cat with all the attributes you need in a cat companion.

  • My cat Bramble has his own page on Facebook, where you can see some nice pics of him, the latest being the one where he's wearing an illuminated bow tie (for indoor use only, of course).

  • Nice video, I have 3 Maine Coons and they are my real love

  • I want to have a cat like this! :)

  • 1:51 could have been Sportster. I really miss that cat! 14 years with an amazing cat that I still miss. He would reach out and grab you, and pull you towards him so you would pat him. Huge personality. Definitely my favorite cat breed.

  • I enjoyed your video very much. It's very well put together and effectively conveys the notion of the Maine Coon cat as "the American Cat." The stately music adds to the effect. Let's hear it for Maine's official state cat and America's cat!

  • GORGEOUS!

  • Six years ago I was offered a most beautiful kitten, reluctantly I excepted only because I had just moved into a new cond. I am a cat lover and had many throughout my life. For the first two years I had no idea just what type of breed he was. I did however knew that this cat was very smart, super huge, loved water and opening all my cabinet doors. I now know that I own a genuine Maine Coon and am so grateful! There are many things americans got right. The best 3 are cars, freedom, & Maine Coon

  • Thanks for the video:) I got my cat from a friend and don't know what he is...he is grey and white and is built like these cats. He is about 4 years old and weighs about 20 pounds, and he is not overweight. I think he is part Maine Coon, but his ears are smaller than the cats in this video. He also looks like the Norwegian Forest Cat...I really don't care what he is. He is the most beautiful, sweetest cat in the whole wide world!!!

  • Im jealous! my male maine coon, Rudy, is now a year old and I feel like hes tiny for his breed. I look at him sometimes and just wish he would get bigger, but Im not exactly sure if hes small or not. You see I have two other cats who are big, a 20lber and a 15lb at ages 4 and 5. Maybe Im just use to seeing my other two cats and assume thats a normal size and Im waiting for Rudy to get even bigger (hes currently at 14lbs, close to 15)

  • @Scarlettexashes Dont be too impatient about Rudy's 'development'. My maine coon was small for her first two years then grew to a monster 19lbs soon after. She stayed that way all her 15 years but I had to have her put down 2 years ago after she developed a tumour. My vet told me this type of cancer was common in North American cats unfortunately. She was totally irreplaceable but what a great 15 years of joy she gave us.

  • Looks like a patroit

  • They are so beatiful! :)

  • Awesome!

  • Have a 22 year old "Sidney". Please think he is more like 10. Not many realize the Maine Coon have a very long life span (20-25+) and that they tend to act like kittens all their life.

  • maine coons are the best breed ever;sweetest disposition and best personality.Mine just died of lymphatic leukemia;miss her soo much, she was a calico one.I am hopefully getting two sisters same breed very soon from the humane society!

  • Wonderfuyl Music for a wonderful Cat Mines all Black..and she's too smart for me.Even tells me what type of food she's craving . The Sphinx explains how great these Beings are!

  • @nandansho "Wonderfuyl" LOL!

Learn how to spell, disphit. Also, nobody cares about your stupid cat.

  • Thanks for the beautiful photos and beautiful music. My Maine Coon "Fluffy" weighs 25 pounds. I never had a cat that overate before. Perhaps it was because he was in a shelter which was open space inside and the cats ate off large plates, so there may have been a lot of competition for food. But he is a real beauty -- brown tabby with celadon green eyes. I drove from Washington DC to Pittsburg PA to adopt him because he looked so beautiful on Petfinder. com.

  • The symbol of America--everything's bigger here lol

But maine coon is really adorable cute cat :)

  • Thanks for the comments. I like Maine Coons too. I have lived with ZAK (he's in the video) for about 20 days and he is lovely. Great boy. That pic is on Flickr too. Just search for Maine Coon.

  • Essa trilha sonora não tem nada a aver!

  • Beautiful animals... and John Barry is a genius!

  • Thanks for posting this beautiful video, i love Maine Coon's.

  • I'm pretty sure mine could have been in this video.

  • Well done video! Maine Coon cats are an extraordinary breed and just as diverse as the American People. I have one..he's a beautiful brown tabby!

  • Good video

  • These cats are absolutely gorgeous ..... but if y'all think these cats are sweet, you have never met Malfoy, my youngest daughter's cat ...... he is absolutely a terror!

  • Maine Coons are absolutely magnificent cats! Thanks for the great video of these gorgeous, gentle giants!

  • The first cat you showed on the video and the one at 1:15 were beautiful, then again, all of these cats are! : )

  • Hi,yes, they are both American show cats photographed at shows. The second one is Miss Kate. She is pure glamour and my favourite cat. If she was human she would be a celebrity walking down red carpets to premiers!

  • Zak had sort of a moustache there similar to my cat Harley, he looked like a very handsome boy!

  • Hi, Zak is handsome and a very nice cat. He is a bit shy and he likes to play. I am very fond of ZAK.

  • beautiful video and pictures of one of my favorite breeds!

  • Thanks - I miss ZAK one of the cats in the video. He is a gentle and fine boy who I love...Michael

  • Just Really Well Done.

  • Well, I think you are being very harsh. If you say the Maine Coon is an immigrant then almost all Americans are immigrants too (except Native Americans and even they came from somewhere) and when does one stop being an immigrant? The precursor to the Maine Coon came to the US in 1630! And there is no firm evidence (quite the contrary) that cats kill birds in large numbers. Cats prefer easier prey such as mice.

  • Ours was born in the state of Maine but lived out his life here in the midwest.

  • Well... I have to say Mine coons cats are my favorite breed of cats. M maine coon cat is so loving and gentle. 5/5 Nice Job

  • As one who's owned two Maine Coons, I must say I think they're the best! FIVE stars!! (Wish I could have another, but where I live you can't have cats! GRRR!!!)

  • I agree, why can't you live with a cat where you are, may I ask?

  • Very cool looking cat.

  • Yeh, the Maine Coon is perhaps my favorite purebred cat. An impressive cat and a lovely sweet character, almost shy and reserved.
