No one has a right to know if someone is LEGALLY carrying their firearm concealed, just like no one has a RIGHT to know whatever else I'm carrying on my person.
What happened to our RIGHT to privacy? Idiots.
And that clueless woman at 3:27 calling the carriage of firearms a privilege? No, bimbo, it's our RIGHT! Learn the difference!
We're at risk because of these brainwashed, lying bastard tyrants trying to twist the law into making it seem like they're not at fault for doing such a thing.
Wow, that is stupid, just go out and piss off a bunch of ARMED people. Guess it is safe to do, because they are law abiding people. How about next time the do the same with armed gang members who are illegally armed. See what happens then.
Ignoring all the LEO's, victims of previous crimes and domestic abuse, witnesses, and judges who are put at real risk of life and limb by this we also have to consider the fact that firearms are one of the primary things burglars look for when they break into a home. Now the criminals know exactly where those guns are. Releasing all this personal information in not only reckless, its criminal endangerment. I hope they got sued into the ground.
The root of the problem is. you should not need a permit to exercise a right in the first place. Then there would be no public record to publish, Law abiding citizen should never be cataloged.
Quote from the scum bag Lucy Dalglish defending the Roanoke Times, "Who is licensed and who is given a privilege in this country, um, by a governing body..."
WHO IS GIVEN A PRIVILEGE BY A GOVERNING BODY!
A privilege by a governing body?
Not a Constitutional right! Not the Natural Right of a Free Man! A PRIVILEGE! Given by a governing body!
Witness protection is a government program and a privilege...that information should be made public......Why don't these people think before they talk?
The CNN talking heads act as if a person needs a reason to carry a concealed handgun, they have no idea about Virginia laws; here the state has to have a reason to keep you from carrying a gun.
I'll be brutally honest here. I hope this doesn't happen, but if Teresa Sayers, Hassan Thomas (along with possibly his wife and child) and some of the 135,000+ Virginia gun owners (some of which are crime victims like Teresa Sayers) end up being murdered because of the Roanoke Times management's decision to reveal their names and addresses, the RT management will (repeat--WILL) be held responsible for such deaths.
That's an offence, right? Not just the paper, but the wankers that allowed this information to leak out (took their data stick with them when they went out for their cannabis break, and left it outside when they returned to their desk or something as stupid).
Most of these states have had CCW laws on the books for years, so there isn't anything "newsworthy" about the people who have permits.
In addition, publishing the list also threatens people who don't have permits. Think about it. If I wanted to kill someone, I could check the list to see if he has a permit. If he didn't, I would know to attack him when he leaves his house, because I would know for sure he won't be armed.
When CCW lists are published, everyone suffers except criminals.
I agree with a previous commenter; I live here in Roanoke, VA and I don't remember anything about this. Hmm.=/ Well, I guess it's a good thing I don't own a gun - I guess.
That's because if they (Roanoke times) or any one like NBC, FOX or CBS were to discuss it it would shine them in an already negitive light. Roanoke times like the anchors here in Roanoke are a joke.
I am the woman in the video. Anyone who knows me will recognize me and anyone who doesn't will have no clue where I live in Virginia. Sometimes we have to take a stand to protect our rights, and that was the decision I made.
This is exactly why we should not be required to have gun permits in the first place. The second amendment gives every Americans the right to bear arms. Think about what would happen if every American that wanted to exercise freedom of speech (the 1st Amendment) was required to register with the government and there names and addresses were made public. The constitution ensures this right therefore I don't need a permit.
its a huge deal but where do u get ur news from the roanoke times do u think their going 2 publish how they put 135,000 ppl in danger & the roanoke times works w/ the local news o yea their going 2 do a story on how they fucked up thats y CNN did a story on it cuz it wasnt a big deal they mention 1 person whos life was put in danger by this u think it dosnt include judges who put ppl in jail or ppl who own guns cuz som stalker tried 2 rape her now their all compromised yea thats not a big deal
Perhaps the Roanoke Times should consider publishing the names and addresses of every citizen who actively opposes the Second Amendment, concealed carry provisions and individual liberty and right to privacy. For what reason? Why, "the public's right to know," of course!
The anti-second amendment fascists claim the "right" to know who is licensed for concealed carry. Why? So that they will know who is capable of protecting them if attacked? The Roanoke Times' decision to publish this information is deplorable. It seems the liberals proclaim "the right to privacy" only under circumstances that coincide with their agenda. For the rest of us, particularly gun owners, that right should be violated. Carry on, VCDL and NRA!
i was a victim of domestic violence and the roanoke times, i was interviewed for a story, there was a promise that i would not be identified. they asked to use a photo of me and i said no, they offered to crop it to protect my identity, and when the story ran, they showed my face. long story short, i filed a suit, and at the end, the judge assigned to the case retired and the new judge assigned threw the case out. they used my beaten face to sell newspaper at the expense of my embarassment.
Records of what government officials are doing should be open. The people's records should be private. Law abiding Americans should not be required to get a permit or license to carry a concealed firearm. These restrictions are a violation of the 2nd amendment to keep and bear arms, as well as a violation of many states' constitutions.
The info. should be confidential if newspapers and the state police refuse to exercise competent judgment. The info. was meant to be difficult to obtain to discourage improper use of it as per state law.
how completely irresponsible. I hope thier subscribers drop them I hope the permit owners refuse to advertise with them and I hope no one gets hurt because of thier reckless disregard of others.
Oh my god. This is absolutely frightening! You don't have a right to know what property I own! The government shouldn't even be keeping these records!!!!
Who has a conceales carry permit and who doesn't should remain private. These are law abiding people here not like sex offenders who the public does have a right to know about. There is no benefit to publicizing who has a permit to carry.
