  • why the hell westerners call it "Nay-kon" when it is actually pronounced as "Nee-kon".. :))

  • @omfgsqueak88 its actually pronounced "ni-kon" the way the brittish say it you ignorant fuck. shows what you know.

  • @barekantspel789 u pronounce it like a dog pooping in ur face u stupid ass.. u didn't even get my point & replying to my comment like a 70yr old retard.. 1st thing's 1st, Nikon is made in Japan so why the hell u some westerners mispronounce the effin brand name?.. Lol ..listen to Cameralabs, that's how u pronounce it u stupid ass.

  • @omfgsqueak88 w/e... i'm clearly dealing with a child. seems like you have experience with dogs "pooping in your face". say it how you will, but i know the correct way.

  • @barekantspel789 & u're a 70yr old mongoloid that changes the topic coz can't clearly detail well how the brand's name pronounces.

  • @omfgsqueak88 umadbro?

  • Nice video and helpful QUESTION: with the 200mm lens can't you use extension tube such as 1.5x or 2.x and really extend focal length?

  • Does it take video?

  • You pronounced Nikon wrong (FAIL)

  • I see a future camera salesman here ! Front Porch advertising works.

  • I thought you had a canon and if you were a nikon guy why change to a canon?

  • Has the price of spare battery packs gone down? (since this vid is 2 yrs old)

whats the qaulity of macro pics?

I was thinking of buying this as my first slr...

  • so none of your slrs actually shoot video, i think that you should sell some of your less used equipment and get something like a canon 7D, you are very good and you deserve it.

  • does the nikon d40 or d60 take videos?

  • @deumic141 no but the d5000 and d 3100 does

  • get a little more excited dude

  • Sorry but what you're saying is not correct at all. Autofocus has nothing to do with lazyness moreover the 3x3 rule (you can point the camera at the object and reframe again). AF is indeed a crucial function for taking quick shots which you can't afford loosing time to manual focus. And cameras don't focus only in the center. They also use the focusing points (different number troughout the different models;D40 has got only 3) and can focus on objects that are off the center of the frame as well

  • oh yeah, i thought u shoot canon? how come you have a nikon then?

  • I currently shoot with a 35mm SLR from canon ( rebel X), and i completley agree i use autofocus most of the time cause my mom thinks i need to speed up the composition time of my photo. Anyway, great review i'm looking to start shooting digitally now after months of shooting 35mm point and shoot and Slr photography. Ur AWESOME PHOTO TEEN! :~)

  • I'm glad to hear that you started with 35mm.

It is the base to learning photography and still is amazing.

    And thanks...

    I know I'm awesome... LOL :)

  • u are so wrong, ive worked with many pros and they use autofocus almost all the time, the ones that don't are the dinosaurs

  • i prefer manual :P

  • I do agree that if you expect quick and accurate autofocus then the D40/D40X/D60 is not the way to go. However, it is important to note that only in a select number of lenses are there autofocus motors. Most notably the recent AF-S series lenses contain internal motors. These lenses have motors built-in for such camera bodies as the D40 that do not have their own autofocus motors. On the whole, it is the camera itself that houses the autofocus motor

  • This is true...but you need to look at Sigma and Canon for a second here as well... Sigma has HAS, a built-in "Hyper Sonic Motor" Canon has USM a built-in "Ultrasonic Motor"

  • Let me just say, if I didn't have auto focus, I'd be screwed :) In low light, your best shot is AF because you can't see in the dark and if you are flashing, AF assist lamps can help. Also, ALL of the pros I know, nearing 50-60 around here, use AF virtually all of the time. Given, event/portrait photographers with amble light might not AF because they can be "more precise."

I DON'T want ANYBODY to take offense to this, this is merely my opinion on the matter.

  • There is a reason professional DSLRs have the fastest autofocus motors in them... its because professionals require them. I'm not saying all pros such as a portrait photographers use autofocus but it is a necessary feature for say sports photographers

  • actually carnival66 most photographers DO use autofocus

  • Very good job man, seriously. Keep it up!

  • great camera. for begginners. like me

  • RedNeckTeen...lol

  • At least, he doesn't smell like "Black Turd"

  • nice review good job keep up the good work bud!!

  • why did you switch to canon?

  • well just go ahead and take a look at compare in google !!!

  • are you talking about d40x & d40 ? oh well boy , u suck , you better look it up on google or somewhere else to compare it!! dont just guess, 10mpx&6mpx is just bigger size but doesnt matter, and the frame it better but it cost more ! however d40x&d40 is twin, doesnt have much change.

  • Well...let me just tell you, the D40X is a MUCH better camera than the D40. A 4.0 Megapixel difference, and a .5 frame per second increased rate. These are two major differences between the two. The D40X is pretty much a D60. Hince the D40X is now discontinued and the D60's are selling like crazy!

  • 4 extra megapixels are worthless, the Nikon D40 has a resolution of 3008x2000 and the D60 has 3872x2592. The D40 has a flash sync of 1\500 vs 1\250 on the D60. Also with the pixels less densely packed on the sensor it has better low light performance. Also the D40 does matrix meter with AF lenses, so long as they have a CPU in them.

  • Photo teen, are you gonna change your name when you turn 20?

  • Well, that's an exquisite question, and yes, unfortunately I will probably have too. :(

  • you didn't have to call urself phototeen to begin with as it serve no purpose and might lose the stereotypical adult consumers who don't want to hear tech talk from a teen.

    call urself the photoking :)

  • you know nothing.

The D40x is a waste of money to get over the D40.

  • ok...the xs is a MUCH better choice than a Nikon D40. Not that the D40 is a bad camera, because it is most certainly not. The XS has a 10.1 megapixel liveview CMOS sensor with sensor cleaning I believe. It shoots 3.5 frames per soceond versur the D40 @ 2.5 The D40 only has 6.1 megapixels as well. So in the end, the Rebel XS with an 18-55mm IS lens is only about $50 more than the D40 with an 18-5mm. A MUCH btter deal.

  • Would you recomend this camera for someone who is just starting?

  • Definetley. IfNikon has a starters DSLR, the D40's it! Get it body only and then pair it with a Nikon 18-135mm lens and a Nikon AF-D 60mm f/1.8 for a total of around $650. Or Nikon D40 with Nikon 18-55mm lens for around $400

  • Ok. I was also thinking of the canon rebel xs. Which one would be better?

  • I love your door

  • Will you do some more videos soon please???

  • The battery is the Nikon En-El9. I just purchased a ProMaster En-El9 battery as a spare. I shoot with the Nikon D40 and I love it. I have owned mine for almost a year and haven't had any problems with it. I am looking into upgrading to the Nikon D300 in the near future but I am going to keep the D40 as a back up body. Thanks for the review.

  • thanks I am going to get that camera.

  • The Canon 5D pics up all kinds of muck, I use the 28-300 USM and sometimes change to the 24-105 doing it in seconds and facing down, but the magnetic field brings it all on in!!

  • I see your houes address.

  • my friend photo teen hello DO NOT remove the lens with out puting the cover becouse dust will go to the digital sensor....!!!!

but very nice video nice work keep it up....i have the same one !!

  • Thanks for commenting, but, i did not have a cap on me, and i cleaned the camera directly after the vid, i do thank thee for the concern though.

sincerely, A.J. Holmes-Owner and Founder of Grade A Photography.

  • but remember this probobly is his first DSLR and then you maby don't think of it, i didn't when i had my D40..

and i can stil forget it on my D300, the worst case was when i was chaning a lens and was interrupted and put the camera with the lens (but there was no lens on it) upwards and it was so for 2 days x). we are humans and we make mistakes...

    cheers
