  • Sorry if I missed something on the viedo, I'm maybe buying one of these aluminium MacBooks, is it possible to get internal expansion card so I can hook it to the 3G-network with SIM-card? I don't wanna use USB-modems as they are bit bulky.

  • found 4gb kit for 35 euros, i am going to buy it

  • I have 4 GB in my MacBook is that enough

  • 0:09 is he saying 71 dollar shit?

  • my macbook 13 has 8gb of ram awesome stuff. should the battery be removed to do this safely?

  • is the upgrade worth it?

  • @daiIygrace if you edit video like I do then absolutely.

  • Are the RAM cards you installed 4GB and 4GB or 2 & 2?

  • @thcappel 2 and 2

  • @mikadpn it's Said to Be possible @zundertink: it is Unibody,,,

  • Thanks mate, now just waiting for my 2011 MBP & 8GB upgrade to arrive :D

Was a fair bit quicker to upgrade on the pre-unibody models, I must say.

  • Love cheap RAM!

  • Unofficially you can put 6Gb in this macbook (2Gb+4Gb chips) I don't know i might try it.

  • @daveashe Actually 8GB provided you had the correct firmware updates :)

  • can you replace the battery on then new 13 inch macbook pro?

  • @Mario4Italy not really. Technically you could, but it is not as easy

  • what is the maxium ram u can put in the macbook(like yours)

    great vid

  • @PavleP1 mine is 4GB. The new ones up to 8GB and 16GB

  • @zollotech I have that same maacbook and i want to put 8gb of ram, do you think thats possible? I'm calling apple tomorrow

  • Dayum, i dont have that switch to open it, this is vid number 153423 with different way to open the macbook...

  • Thanks ! Good tutorial. Just ordered 4GB from OWC and am looking forward to putting it in my mac book. So easy, and so much cheaper than Apple !

  • I'm getting mine today and its gonna be $56 shipped :)

  • @warman0712 nice

  • @warman0712 where did you get yours?

  • @Bemap30 OWC.com

I also got the 11 Piece Tool Kit and it all totaled just over $60

  • Hmm this isn't the unibody

  • @UnrealGlider it is the original unibody macbook. the unibody refers to the part where the keyboard is as being one piece.

  • MRS MEYERS

  • cant wait to get my macbook next year!

  • You are unable to afford Macbook? Check out giveaway at macbook7, com You can get one NOW

    I like it

  • i have 1 gig of ram in my gateway laptop with windows vista home premium. the brand of my ram is samsung. is samsung a good brand for ram? im thinking of putting 2 gigs of ram in it.

  • @wheely132 Samsung makes a lot of memory chips for just about every manufacturer. Many of the different brands of ram and flash ram use Samsung chips. I think you should be fine using it as long as it is compatible.

  • @zollotech well my laptop is just getting sow so i was wondering which brand of ram you would recommend. im thinking of going from 1 gig to 2 gigs.

  • @wheely132 Samsung would be fine, but i would look at newegg and see what customers who bought ram say about it. That way you can choose based off a few different reviews.

  • @zollotech ohh ya i forgot you could do that on newegg. i havent been on newegg in a while now. im going to check right now.

  • What is the most memory you can put into a 13" unibody macbook?

And what are the benefits of having more RAM?

  • @DukeLuke1020 I've heard you can do 6gb, although apple says it'll only go up to 4. Some website was able to register 6gb on a late 2008 unibody MB using one 4gb card and one 2gb card. Search around, you'll find what I'm talking about.

  • Wait I have to buy 4GB of ram instead of 2GB? Can'tI just buy 2GB of ram and add it to the 2GB thats already in there?

  • no cause you have 2 1GB Sticks... so you will need to buy 2 2GB sticks to make up the 4GB...

  • RAM is picky. Mixing brands won't go down good, as with having an odd number of sticks, even. i.e odd numbers aren't cool, except for 3, I think. Don't hold me to it though.

  • yeah I guess your right, I'm gonna have to have to buy 4GB of Ram instead of 2GB which sucks.

  • Thank you for this video tutorial. It was very helpful! The "statistics and data" trendline is interesting... lots of people are upgrading their memory to keep up with Snow Leopard. :)

  • sorry, what brand is this memory?

  • Is it a big different btw 2gb ram and 4gb? Maybe gonna upgrade :D

  • About twice the difference.

  • When I push and pull the two tabs, the ram still wont pop up!!!!!

  • I Didnt Know This Was So Easy! Thanks For Saving me A Couple $100

  • Ohh, i thought he said 71$ s**t not 71$ shipped, anyway, good review

  • laptop upgrades for memory is easier

  • Some are, some aren't. For a Mac this is pretty easy.

  • u wasted 4 minutes of my life removing screws nice vid thanks.

  • you were going to live through those 4 minutes anyway...glad I could help

  • it won't let me put the link, but the website is called macsales

  • can you please post a link or something to buy the memory

i tried looking but i couldn't find nothing

  • do i need a certain kind or form of 4GB RAM? or does it have a universal size?

  • muss ich nicht noch treiber oder ähnliches für den neuen RAM installieren? oder läuft das dann alees direk von alleine?

  • Really Good tutorial, cheers mate.

  • Thanks for the video! this was helpful because i wanted to upgrade my memory, but i didn't want to do something that might mess up the mac

  • the cheapest on newegg is 60 plus shipping. The aluminum MacBook uses DDR3 204 pin memory. The older MacBook is DDR2 which is cheaper. Prices will come donw quickly though.

  • you can get 4gb of ram on newegg for 35$

  • dude quit smoking, i can hear ur breath like hell,

  • i don't smoke

  • whats the difference between the ram and harddrive?

im sorry im asking so much questions, i just really wonna know these things before i buy it.

  • In lemans terms, your hard drive is where your photos, music, documents, and movies are saved. It is the component with the most memory in your PC. RAM (Random Access Memory), It usually refers to "temporary" memory, as when the system is shut down, the memory is lost. This is why the memory is referred to as being "random," as any piece of information can be circulated through the memory regardless of its location and its relation to any other information within the RAM. Remember, more is better

  • so i dont need to put it in the hardrive at all?

unless im missing that OXS leopard

  • right

  • i bought my macbook yesterday but i had the geek squad optomize it.

and now on the finder on the sidebar with the house icon it says "user" but i would want it to say my name.

and when i tried to change it it said that "user' cant be modified or deleted because it is required by Mac OS X?

and all i wanted to was to change the name

  • try making a new user under your name and giving it full administrative privileges. then delete "user".

  • wat is the use of the 2 cds that come with the mac?

do you install right after or while the bootup is happening?

or its just to be left alone?

  • they are there in case you need to reinstall OSX or you want Xcode for development. You can install for free from the DVD's. Also they contain extra garageband loops

  • What do you mean by ground?.. when you touch the RAM?

  • if you are not grounded before touching the ram and you zap it with a static shock, you could potentially damage the ram. For example: when you rub your feet on a carpet and touch something metal that is grounded or anything that is touching ground it will shock you and whatever it touches. The electricity always tries to find the quickest path to the ground. That is why people who handle electronics a lot will often have a grounding strap on their shoe or ankle

  • so a bigger ram means it runs much faster with programs that are running?

and if i do decide to do this to my macbook can i just have apple do it?

and does it at all affect the apple care plan?

  • it allows you to have more running and more smoothly. It helps when rendering video. I am not sure if Apple will do it after you buy it, but it is far more expensive. If there is a problem related to Ram then yes it can affect your warranty. If the problem is something else you will be fine.

  • what does adding more ram do for your laptop?

  • when you do a lot of video editing as I do it speeds it up and allows more processes to be running at the time with less slowdown.

  • Great vid, i am saving up for one of these beauties, and i find that if i buy the 15.4 inch, 2.4 GHz, with 2 gigs of RAM off newegg, it will only cost me 1,999 (about). but the 17 inch with 2.5 GHz and 4 gigs of RAM starts at around 2,499. The 15 inch is my first choice. I am however, looking to upgrade the RAM as you did. have you ever heard of iRAM, i found it on newegg, 4GB (2x2GB), for a total of 79.99. Now i realize that your RAM specified is cheaper. Any kind of feedback would be great. TF

  • is it bad for the computer if u dont use lock tight again.

  • No because the loctite stays the same and still provides some friction. I would check them a day or two later though as they will settle and need to be re-tightened. Once you recheck them they will not loosen again.

  • thanks

  • Nice video. I am thinking of upgrading my Macbook 2.4ghz to 4gb's of Ram. The two DDR3 ram sticks are about 70 bucks shipped. I am hoping they will go down in price soon.

    Overall great video! 5/5

  • Thanks...They should go down. A couple months ago they were 90 or more

  • I just got 4GB for my Macbook Pro 2.4 unibody from OWC for only $62 shipped

  • after install, does the memory match up and can be accessed again, if we want to change back to the old, etc?

  • yes, you can switch it back and forth with no problem. I have done this on my previous macbook when I needed to bring it into apple for some service. Although they allow you to use your own ram, in order for them not to blame it on the new ram, I swapped it back.

  • thanks for the quick reply! also, does it matter which side you install it (sticker or no sticker side)? i will definately buy this after i clean out my wish list!

  • it absolutely matters which way it goes in. The memory is notched and will only go one way. Just look at the way the old memory comes out and install yours the same.

  • Damn dude that was FAST lol. I'm running bootcamp also. Windows XP 32bit to be exact (so I know I wont be able to utilize all 4 GB). Have you had any experience playing Left4Dead with that set up? WOuld you recommend OWC over crucial?

  • I would buy owc as many use it and the ram chips are samsung. The memory is no diff from oem in the old macbook, so the brand should be fine. owc is just the reseller. I have not played that game on pc, but bf2 runs full resolution with everything turned high and runs well. Call of duty 4 runs well also.

  • hey nice walk through. I'm sure it helped alot of people. What real-world results have you run across? Faster boot? Smoother running OS? Anything? Thanks

  • The graphical speed is quite a bit faster and you notice that right away. The render speed is about the same for these videos. Overall though with the ddr3 ram and the 9400m graphics, it is much faster, especially running boot camp with windows 7 and games.

  • i got the top of the line one from apple tday as a replacment for the white one

    is that lucky or what

  • sure is...how did you manage that?

  • Have you experienced any lock ups or instability after the OWC rams are installed? Thanks

  • No, no instability at all. The memory is the same brand used in the last macbook I had. Seems to be good stuff so far.

  • ha you have the 2 Ghz version why not the 2.4?

  • cost was the factor. 400 extra and not that much diff in speed in real-world tests

  • I love the soft music! What is the song called?

  • The song is a default song from garageband on the Mac

  • awesomez
