After adjustment, I also check a size over and under as well. If the size smaller is loose, and the size larger won't fit, I'm happy. Just had to do the valves on my Z-car after a rebuild.

too lame its not even accurate..explain it more detail like when is the best time to adjust ur intake and exhaust?

What do you mean, magic number 9? Also, how do you do this on a motorcycle engine? How do you turn the engine over on a motorcycle engine, and know you are pressing the valve all the way down? I guess I have to take the cover off the side of the engine so I can turn it around with a wrench or something. So I'm adjusting the distance between the lifter and the valve, not the lifter and the cam...

@cobrachoppergirl Check the video "Valves-what order to adjust" to learn about the magic number nine. I always did my valves in order front to rear. This way is much quicker!

@jpatt1000 best way ive found it to have the motor running with the valve covers off and tighten the lifters til they stop tapping. then 1/4 turn more

@RicerEater1978 Yeah, that does work on motors with hydraulic lifters, unfortunately everything I have have solid lifters.

@jpatt1000 The Alfas are the worst, to do the intake valves, you have to measure, take the cams out and replace the shims.

@jpatt1000 ahhhh, didnt think about that. so you tighten them to .012? im thinking about going solid lifters

@RicerEater1978 Well, on my 260Z, The intake clearance is .08 and the exhausts are .10. So say I'm doing an intake, I measure for a tight .08, and if a .07 is loose and a .09 doesn't fit, I'm happy. It takes me about a half hour to adjust all twelve valves. As far as clearance for your solid lifters, set them at the specs they give you. Have fun!
