As one of the many that was initially discouraged by KOL's lack of tracks, I will say this: Each one of those tracks has a quality about them which is so unique and wonderful that it does not really bother me anymore. That being said, I don't think this song would have fit on KOL musically. This song is so vastly different from what they were doing on KOL that it deserved a single release. Now Staircase.... that song should have been on KOL.

I think its a vintage Neumann U-boat 69. I had one once, and it did have a very crisp response. Unfortunately I damaged it after using the diaphragm as a contraceptive, having confused the term with birth control method which goes by the same name. It also did not help that I later attempted using the empty housing as a condom. Needless to say I unintentionally became a father, but it turned out well as the trombone player in this video is my son :)

I really don't know how to tell you to get it, but for me the 'key' to the whole album was either Bloom or Feral. Once you can like those, you can like them all. Kind of like how the 'key' for my liking Kid A was Idioteque and Morning Bell, and for Amnesiac it was Pulk/Pull Revolving Doors. It just takes that one song, that one moment where something clicks and you get it.
