  • A beautiful song. What was the audience listening to?

  • Did, the crowd wet their pants or just got their homones and nads movin; w/ This Tune, Hittin em In The Face ....-Thanks- to Buddy R. Live

  • wow, drums and books = perfect match. lately, i like my results when exercising hand-feet coordination with reading a book at the set. you can go for long hours with that, you just need food and drinks around. ;)

  • Jimmy is BAD ASS on this tune! I love it!

  • It seemed Buddy rarely used guitar players in his band. This is about the only video i can recall with a guitar. It works for the tune and it was probably from the 70's when rock was so strong.

  • His Donny Osmond phase.

  • whos the guy at the very beginning? he's very good.

  • It's me! Thanks for the kind comment.

  • not bad. ...not bad at all.

  • What ever happend to baritone saxophonist John Oslawski; anyone know? Great band; thanks for posting!

  • John passed away while vacationing in Spain on July 14th, 2000.

He died of an anneurysm on the upper ascendant aorta. He was married and living in Wiesbaden Germany for twenty-two years prior to his death.

He worked in Frankfurt as a studio musician.

    He was a great guy!

  • Lorister, Thank you for replying; I knew John in boston back in the 1960's. He was definitely a great guy, and great musician! So sorry to hear of his passing.

  • @lorister I also knew John and considered him my best friend. We were in the USAF Band in Panama together. A wonderful person and a wonderful musician. I still miss him. Bill

  • The bass trombonist(John Leys) is now my trumpet and trombone teacher.

  • cool

  • way cool

  • Hey Maxx good thing Leys is /was your teacher. He's a very good guy. I've counted him as a friend for over twenty years. Hopefully I will be able to get some video eventually that has both John and I playing in big bands. We wind up playing in the same groups fairly often these days. I just have to get someone to watch the camera. John's wife Beverly would be perfect to watch the gear.

  • Oops-just saw the earlier comment about Ernie Wise.

  • Great video-Did any UK viewers notice comedian Ernie Wise sitting in the audience (that's him in the thumbnail)

  • Jesus Christ was this some republican fundraiser....?????

  • One of the great editions of Buddy's band - Crea, Bruno, Kaplan and O'Quinn - brilliant soloists!

  • TRULY........ SO AWESOME. and you know what's funny? i dont listen to ANY jazz EXCEPT Buddy Rich. he is it. he is the best ever.

  • Greg Hopkins is the Bomb.

I just spent a week learning more about jazz from him and playing his epic arrangement of Sing Sing Sing.

  • It seems like the audiamce does not know what they're looking at or what to do. They did not clap after the solos and they seem a little confused.

  • its the old british stiff upper lip!

  • pretty typical of any seated white audience anywhere, ever, no matter what the genre. that's just the way we (by which i include myself) are

  • It's really nice that Buddy gave Jimmy Bruno that much room to really stretch out and play. He must have only been in his early twenties, and you can already hear he was a monster.

  • The second of the trombone soloists is Keith O'Quinn, who also played with Maynard.

  • Does that first bone soloist have a beard????.....I thought Buddy didn't like bone players with beards. I have a copy of that old cassette recording with him tearing into an Aussie bone player for growing one.

  • That's Alan Kaplan. He always had a beard when he was playing in Buddy's band.

  • yea but the tape of buddy bitching about the beards was made in the 80's this is 1973 0r 4 you know when they were "in"

  • did anyone notice "ernie wise" sitting amonst the audience?

he was the famous british other half of comic duo "morecanum and wise"

    (spelt the name wrong!)...sorry!!

  • Excellent clip guys. Thanks for posting this classic video. Are you able to post some more?.

  • We're planning to. There's other clips from the this concert in my collection. Check out: "Double Time (+ bonus footage of Buddy Rich)" and "Backwoods Sideman" as well.

  • notice how the base player comes in to early, Buddy is not to happy..follow the leader at all times..love this video..the crowed are a bit quite on the night but a nice gig none the less..Thats Buddys famous " i hate Donny Osmond" badge hes waring on his jacket.got him in trouble now and again.

  • Yeah, Buddy started to count it off and they started already. Buddy makes some jokes about the badge later on. We'll be posting it.

  • I remember when this show was first broadcast on BBC2 in England. It was called "LIVE AT THE DORCHESTER" (as in The Dorchester Hotel, London.) It was actually broadcast in colour originally!

  • No kidding?! Huh! I always thought the tape was a little grainy - probably a copy of a copy. I got the tape from Ray Anthony. He got it as an import.
