Recorded in 1973 and it sounds as fresh as the day it was recorded. I was 11 years old and knew Gladys and the Pips music. Makes me feel bad for the kids today. Rihanna will never be this timeless.
who in the hell could ever hit the dislike button...you wush they could make music like this today...Gladys make a fella wanna go to church...secular yes, but still anointed.
I am glad I am old enough to say I was in Jr. High School when this was released. It was so this hit that we danced to it out our safe house parties back in the day when that was safe. I wouldn't take nothing for my journey...and I gonna keep on keeping on. Now I can say, those were the good old days. Platform shoes, polyester leisure suit and an afro with an apple hat! We were righteous and we knew what was hep! Great music never to be replaced. New school, CATCH UP!
Believe it or not I'm a 12 year old and I rather listen to dis kind of music than tha music now I ain't sayin tha music now bad but I just love this kind of music sooooo much!!!!!!
I love this Gladys song, Chrisette Michele did a good job doin this song at the 2011 Soul Train Awards to Miss Gladys Knight. This song came out 13 years before I was born
I love Gladys Knight (and the Pips, too). But, no one sings like her. I love her dearly. Thank you, Ms. Knight, for the songs, the fun, the entertainment you have given your public. Thanks for this post.
From an era when soul had soul , r&b had rhythm and didn't turn the air blue and singers didn't have to rely on software to enhance their voices or simulated sex vids to promote their "product" ...... or to put it another way, thumping ACE tune!!! :)
My Uncle's ex would put this album on when they would play cards my daddy and his brothers and friends would bring out the card table and my uncle's girlfriend would pull out gladys and the ohio players and the o'jays and have that turntable spinning..man it was on.
I loved this song when it came out I mean the beat was awesome and then I really listened to the lyrics after my Wife passed away. Whoa I can't stop crying every time I hear it but the beat is so danceable. I really appreciate the song now every time I am on the dance floor
I love Gladys and those Pips are off the hook! The Pips are the best back-up singers in a soul group -- they give the Temptations a run for the money when it comes to those harmonies. They are just fabulous.
i might download dis album on amazon dont know yet i luv cladine da movie n soundtrack wanna knw sumthin im 18 n i luv old skool datz where da natural talent at i hate dis crap now it pointless n it doesnt led me no where does nothin for me da last best era was da 90s
This was my favorite Gladys Knight and the Pips album. While I like and enjoyed them all. But this one I knew EVERY word to EVERY song and played it over and over and over. Especially that song...Seconds.
I always thought this song was produced and written by Curtis Mayfield as it captures that 70s melancholia with such precision. This was my Dad's favorite song, God rest his soul. And I see why.
On my list of my favorite or best Empress Gladys Knight with or without The Pips, This song is #1. Since the first time I heard it, I loved it in 1974. And still today as my favorite song of all time.
Barry and Gerry must be so proud of this song. It's just a basic minor blues(Hit the Road Jack, The Thrill is Gone)yet they found something much more- they added mystery to it. They added"Love in Vain" to it. The melody never lets you rest,& that "Darkness All Around Me / Emptiness Has Found Me" rhyme transcends blues into real existential questions. Barry Goldberg should be remembered
as an American master of song the way Gerry Goffin & his ex Carole King are -this is songcraft at its finest.
Lou Costello the mid-day fellow WVLT 92.1 Vineland NJ played this today. He was gettin' into it as was I at work!

@harrisontimothy That's the difference when you did music for the love of music or when you do music for money or the love of fame

Whenever I see the title of this song I think of "Brass in Pocket" which is embarrassing

No my fault, that's Bob Babbitt not James. James did play on Martha Reeves' version of this song though.

The first was from the 1974 lp "I Feel A Song" and the 2nd was from 1983 lp "Visions" led by Bubba.
