  • Bow to one of the greatest! What I would do for some pointers from Dave!

  • I miss Dave's old style: high-hats at shoulder height, crash cymbals towering above, backwards drum sticks, and that Tama set with the big 14 inch tom tom getting beat to hell on his fat ass fills....THAT was Dave Grohl, man

  • It wasent Dave he played with a bunch of half ass hair rockers. Shit I was their with my wipers bassist friend and hated seeing those bands not Dave enjoyed his visit

  • é o Mr. Grohl minha gente

  • awesome!!!

  • Dave, your awesome on the drums.

  • that would be cool to play with dave on the drums, but really, how much would it suck to only have the crowd there for dave and not listening you at all. you'd be just a foot note during that entire set.

  • this band sucks huge nuts, but dave grohl is the man.

    the vocals just suck

  • this band sucks huge nuts, but dave grohl is the man.

  • Even dave is a mortal like us! He isn't playing it exactly right. John played it basically like this.... his right and left hand are doing the same thing only his left hand is gohst noting the un-accented part

  • Dave will be in the Rock n roll hall of fame for sure. He could of gave it all up after Nirvana, but he said he was 'born to be a musician.'

  • Damn you've got style Dave

  • it's wierd it's almost like he's the next john bonnham""NO OFFENCE TO ANYBODY""..but if any1 agree;s with me on His Style, playing, and even attitude on drumming cause i think so atleast..

  • Dave knew when to get out of Warren.

  • god damn he hits those drums fuckin hard, what a legend

  • bad ass iu wish i could get a chance to jam with dave

  • 1:37 XD...just the dance...

  • ONE DAY I WILL BE BOPPING WITH DAVE GROHL IN HEAVEN!!!!!!

  • come check us out (: we were on disband and shot a music video with lil x (:

  • I bet he gets a lot of poontang.

  • The local band is Love Turns Hate and is opening for KISS at Blossom.

  • la energia de este tio es impresionante.. le pega duro duro duro.. que maquina.

  • I'm born and raised in Warren Ohio. The city had a huge event where they dedicated a street to him and had a bunch of local bands come play. Dave Grohl came and did a free concert for everyone. It was really cool to see someone like him remember his roots. I have a ton of respect for this guy.

  • Wow, he usally sits a lot lower and his cymbals are very higher, the toms either, but there he build his set excactly like Bonham did!

And a guy of his position playing in a local band! Amazing how down-to-earth he is!

  • With grohl on the kit, the frontman could still be vomiting and have it sound awesome

  • little did every one know, dave grohl has now implanted his seed in every single person there. Warren, ohio is now called Grohlen, ohio. every man, woman and child now have beards and killer tattoos.

  • amazing. it's like john bonham back from the dead. also, is it just me or does that singer sound like brian johnson?

  • i saw him live yester today he was awesome

  • He looks like he has 8 arms during the drum solo. God, he's wonderful.

  • dave grohl is the best drummer of all time dude i wish i could drum like this

  • dude look's just like john bonham!!

  • hes an animal

  • it looks like ringo with tats. cool. whats with the bandanas? and the chairs?

dave grohl totally natural with a random kit and all of Bonham's little off beats. i'll bet dave's never even practiced that song, he's probably just a dedicated fan that knows and can translate the song

  • the end its funny, besides he is a great drummer, he has also a great sense of humor!

  • He is an amazing musician!!!!!

  • dave grohl is awesome and this is a great video and wish this was happening in my home town lol but still very awesome and i totally agree that dave is very down to earth which makes him very likeable in the music business

  • With out a doubt, Dave is one of the coolest cats in the music business. It's now wonder that everybody enjoys jammin with him.

  • OMFG !!! You got THAT Close to Dave !!! Your so Lucky XD I would have a Heart Attack if I seen him like Down the Street I would be like "OMFG My IDOL DAVE :O"

  • Halfway through: "Oh shit I better film something other than Dave Grohl!"

  • dude dave is built

  • He has those cymbals really loose.

  • he looks like Jesus.

    :D

  • @thescream22

    he is jesus

  • @thescream22 i thought he was?

  • @thescream22 he is jesus

  • @thescream22 he is jesus

  • I live in Corry, and I always thought that Warren was in Pennsylvania.

  • @baller46254 FUCK YEAH BROTHER NIRVANA IS THE SHIT!!

  • In terms of an all-round musician, Dave is ok at a variety of different instruments including a good singing voice. But there is no question that he plays the same simple grooves when playing drums. He's not that great.

  • If you go to some of FF's concerts and watch Dave and Taylor do do some freestyle drum solos, you'll see they're really good.

Dave applies more mainstream rhythm into his records that's why. But if you want to see him really show serious drumming, you can only see those in his concerts.

  • What are you talking about?

You wouldn't say that if you listened to his drumming in Probot, Songs for the Dead, and Them Crooked Vultures.

Listen to Elephants by Them Crooked Vultures or Song for the Dead by Queens of the Stone Age.

You'll see what I'm talking about.

  • Lol. You clearly haven't been listening to many different drummers have you? If you're saying those songs have skilled and technical drum grooves in, you can't have heard much of Travis' grooves, let alone many other drummers. People were saying Dave was one of the best drummers even when he was playing the same grooves in Nirvana lol.

  • I actually hate it when people are Grohl's nuts but when you're comparing him to some overrated drummer like Barker then I will defend him to the death.

Compare Travis Barker to someone like Danny Carrey? Heard of him? I doubt it. He's way more technically proficient then Travis Barker.

By the way what he played in Songs for the Dead, Probot, and Queens is quite different than from what he played in Nirvana.

  • I said people thought he was amazing even when he was playing the same stuff in Nirvana. I agree that Travis is overrated, but he's way more technical than Grohl. Pop rock drummers aren't my favourite anyway. I'm more of a metal drumming fan myself. Also, I have heard of Danny Carey and I am a fan, but you're going off the track about metal drummers now, so that's just pointless. Travis uses very complicated grooves for punk, and that's why he is regarded as a great drummer.

  • Well I don't think Grohl a hard/alternative drummer should be compared to Travis a punk drummer in the first place.

What makes Grohl is great is his speed and his triplets on the toms; he can make double bass pedal sounds albeit he never uses double bass.

He also has a lot of power in his hits.

  • Lol what are you on about? Double bass is double-bass. He's not fast at all. You need to check out drummers like George Kollias or Thomas Haake if you're looking for speed. Don't get me wrong, Dave is an excellent all round musician, but he's not that special on the drums. It's only because he's popular for being ion Nirvana in the first place.

  • For an alternative/hard drummer he definitely is.

Now you're bringing in death/metalcore drummers?

No. You've obviously shown your lack of knowledge of his talents for just saying, "he was in Nirvana."

His greatest drumming skills wasn't even show-cased in Nirvana. Once again listen to Them Crooked Vultures, QOTSA (Songs for the Dead) and Probot.

Also, if you're judging his talent based on this video, you're wrongly mistaken because this is a cover of a song. Not a solo.

  • OMG I clearly said if you're bringing speed into this, metal drummers such as ones I said are ones which are notable for that. You were the one who brought in Danny Carey who is a metal drummer anyway, so don't be a hypocrite. You need to read carefully what I was saying; ''people thought he was an amazing drummer when he was in Nirvana.'' I've listened to those songs you talked about, and I don't see anything remotely interesting about his technique or skill, compared with other rock drummers.

  • This will be my last statement so understand this.

Well when you're preaching about Barker's "technical" prowess so much I'm inclined to compare him to someone better. It's Travis Barker for goodness sake; why are you defending him?

I'm talking about speed in a ROCK perspective. Not a metal perspective. You see a lot of metalheads like yourself tend to do that which is bad.

What made Bonham so great that he could make one beat sound like five comparable to something fast like double bass

  • Plus, like many drummers I am constantly pushing myself to get better as a drummer, so I'm learning a lot of metal styles because they are very technical, and that's what I like in drumming.

  • ... with only one bass pedal. Which Grohl kinda does too; that's why he's good.

Then those people are retards because Nirvana's drumming is good but not too special.

You obviously have not listened to those songs or listened to them in a METAL perspective because any drummer would at least Grohl some praise of his work in those areas.

  • Everything is gonna seem less spectacular when listening to rock with Nile in mind so again understand what ROCK is ( go listen to Zeppelin) and then listen to those songs again.

  • Dave Grohl's drumming hasn't influenced me because it's not technical enough. I don't know if you're a drummer, but I have been playing for 5 years and through that time I've had a lot of change in my influences of drumming. I's different for different people. You may call me a metalhead, but you're just implying that I only like one genre of music, which isn't true, especially since by doing grades you need to appreciate different genres in pieces.

  • Yes I'm a drummer.

  • Lol. The beats he does are easy. I saw one of his drum solos; he just keeps doing drumming on the snare and then the crashes, that's it. There are a millions of drummers who play just like him. It's natural for people like you to have a go at Travis, but his playing is a lot different than other punk/pop punk drummers, it's obvious. I only used metal drummers as an example because you mentioned a metal drummer in the first place lol.

  • @ddrumdude Dave not use double-bass pedal, that's why he's amazing ;D

  • @Sevenchappels you know nothing about drumming clearly lol. It's impossible to do a lot of grooves without the double pedal. Check out George Kollias' drumming and you'll know what I mean. To be a good drummer you have to recognise the importance of different uses in drumming.

  • @ddrumdude It's impossible to do a lot of grooves without a double pedal of course, but he can do without one things that others can't, you said he is using in this vid a double-bass, and he doesn't....

  • @Sevenchappels LOL, since when did I say he used a double-pedal? I never did. I said death metal drummers use double-pedals. Learn to read.

  • @ddrumdude ''Double bass is double-bass. He's not fast at all.'' Learn to write fag, and be kind :)

  • @Sevenchappels what I meant by that is that double bass is used when necessary, and that Dave Grohl isn't even fast with one foot. I was replying to someone, so you're the one who needs to understand to interperate text. Someone gave me examples of songs and solos when he is apparently fast with one foot, but he isn't. Tony Royster Jr IS fast with one foot if you want a good example :P Plus you can't say a person is amazing just because he's ''fast'' with the double bass.

  • @ddrumdude I said he is amazing for everything he do...

  • I think its you who dosent know much!!!!!!! Iv just got rid of my double pedal because you just end up doing the same double fils as everyone else. and if you cant do a lot of grooves without a double pedal then you need to learn how to drum!

  • "You know nothing about drumming" erm.......People in glass houses shouldn't throw stones!!!!!

  • @ddrumdude nor are you looking at your vids!!

  • @themilksnatcher nor am I what? lol

  • some people says that Dave Grohl is better tnan Travis

    But damn..

    maybe Dave is better

    cause I adore Nirvana

    XD

  • lol he rocks the drumset as hell!

  • If I could be 1% of as cool as Dave Grohl my life would be complete.

  • man. tell your boys that there is a bar of 5 in the drum intro. haha

  • Isn't Dave from Springfield Virginia???

  • Dave was born in Warren and lived here as a child before he moved to Virgina. Still has strong family ties here. Check out the video where he intros his mom and dad and kind of gives a breif family history.

  • @fastfreddierocks which is the video you mentioned ??

  • @fastfreddierocks I'm going to visit Warren one day just so I can steal the sign for that alley they named after him. Then I might buy a gelato of some description

  • coolest and nicest guy in rock

  • dave grohl rocks!!!!!!!

  • Amen. Drop your sticks wannabe it's game over! Our god the almighty saint David grohl has spoken

  • i want to be Dave Grohl in my next life.

  • He is among the coolest of the cool ! What a great guy.

  • he dosent live in ohio!!!!!!

  • He was born here and his dad still lives here. Check out the other videos where he talks about his connections to the area.

  • Wow...if i ever get to play one song with Dave Grohl...I don't know. I would kill myself cause i couldn't expect anything else better in the whole world!

  • id be like, lets play some cannibal corpse fucker

  • LEGEND!

  • most of the people in the crowd are fat :D

  • @AsteroidsFlight a lot of people in the midwest are fat...

  • almost cried seeing his parents there watching

  • whos he playing with?

  • good vid its clear.....respect Grohl.....

  • LOVE it! This is exactly what he would do, go back to his hometown and play with the local band! Dave Grohl is a beautiful person as well as the world's best drummer :)

  • He's good, but nowhere close to being the world's best drummer.

  • Oh I know, as far as technique, lots are more skilled, and yeah I know, Jon Bonham, Neal Peart, they are amazing drummers, no question. But when it comes to passion and power, an explosion on the drum kit, NO ONE does it like Dave!

  • what about Joey from slipknot and vinny paul abbot? Teres lots of exploaive drummers. you have to be explosive some what to even become a drummer

  • No, you SHOULD be explosive, not all are. Check out the video on here by the KINKS, "Lola", the drummer is about to fall into a C-O-M-A, coma, he is so apathetic. Like I say, lots of other excellent drummers, but to me, Dave is the King!

  • lol @ coma. thats funny. i suppose your right. any metal drummer i have met has been explosive per say though. its those skinny guys you have to watch for.

  • Absolutely!!!

  • your in the congo?

  • LOL yeah, poor reception with the computor at times here but....lol no I am in Canada. I put that there a long time ago as a joke and never took it down.

  • haha oh. i was like wow the congo? i didnt even know you guys had internet over there : p

Canada is nice. I have an activist friend that lives in canada that i met on youtube.

  • What kind of activist? Yeah Canada is all right, too cold for my liking.

  • hes into music too mostly hip hop. hes a human right activist. hes involved in awareness and truth seeking. like the anti fluoride, aspertame subjects. anti lluminati and all that kind of stuff. smart kid...

iv been to canada once when i was real young. i barely remember. i remember the cheese fries : p

  • OMG you must have come where I am from, you had poutine! LOL I don't know if they make that anywhere but the Atlantic provinces or Quebec. Right on! Nice to meet you!

  • lol, nice meeting you too, you should add me :)

  • i love you 2 LMAO

  • Hey I live right next too Warren!!

  • man grohl is my idol that was awesome, but whats the crack with turning away from grohl to watch the few plump wimmin dancing if grohl was drumming right in front of me i wouldn't blink till he was finished lol saying that they move well for big girls ha ha rock on

  • The reason behind that was to give the viewer a quick feel as to what was going on and where it was taking place.

  • Next best thing to Bonham right there.

  • AWESOME Grohlage there. But yeah, they are so not worthy to play with him, and what kind of a fool knows Dave is gonna play their kit, and doesn't adjust the freaking hi hat?

  • This was an impromptu deal. There were two drum sets on stage. The one Dave is playing is the one he ask for. A few minutes before the show he ask the band what song they wanted to do and they settled on Rock and Roll. Dave jumped on stage and started jamming with the band on one of their originals which he never heard before and they went into Zeppelin. ONCE AGAIIN THIS WAS A IMPROMPTU JAM !!

  • Yea, he had to adjust his timing, but either way - it was a good performance. I envy that band

  • Now THAT would be F'n cool, jamming with the G-man.

But I don't like the key they're in. And they completely ignored Dave's timing. C'mon....are they nuts!?

  • Those lucky mnfers...haha that was awesome.

  • What! Dave isn't allowed to play a hi-hat that isn't raised at least one and a half feet above the snare. Grohl code.

  • hahaha nice, ive always wondered why he did that hahaha

  • He´s using all the drums too down

The hi hat, crashes, what the hell?

    He´s God

  • Not his kit i don't think, DAVE GROHL IS FAR TO COOL FOR THIS GENERIC KIT

  • It's not his kit. That's why everything's so low.

  • Yeah shows he still has decent technique, contrary to most Grohl haters' opinions who think he is all about power.

  • dave is never wrong, they are out of time with him!

  • the coolest man on the planet! awesome!

  • the most powerful drummer in the world love u dave 4 ever

  • dave grohl is my fucking idol!

  • Dave come to chesterfield england and play with my mates band, i will supply the jagermeister, in fact come here with themcrookedvultures as we are famous for the crooked spire. see you soon lol

  • oh man you are so lucky!

    AWESOME! :)
