according to my ophtho prof yes--he thinks ppl with amblyopia have very poor depth perception their whole lives. He told my one friend he would never be able to become a surgeon because of this
I have had amblyopia for my whole life, but I wasn't diagnosed with it until I was 9 years old. I thought having two different vision qualities was normal. I am now 25 and my good (right) eye sees 20/15 @ + .25D and my left eye sees at 20/25 @ + 3.5D when I use accommodation. However, no glasses or contacts can get me to 20/20 in my left eye. I am going to get wavefront PRK when I return to the U.S. Has any amblyope here tried laser surgery?
i have this the eye doctor telled me this when i was really little i had to wear eye paches i hope when i grow up there will be surgeries for this desses
I have amblyopia and it SUCKS. I can't apply make up on one of my eyes (on the lid only, like eyeliner and stuff) cause I can't see it. I used to wear an eye patch as a child for a year or two and it helped, but I got self conscious because other kids made fun of me and were scared of me. My vision in my left eye is still really bad though.
I have 17 years now , and my question is can it be fixed some part of my vision cuz when i was a child i didnt wear eye patch in time.... ;( so one more thing is it possible 2 lose more vision on that "laisy eye " over time and get crossed eyes ? thanks.
I have amblyopia in my left eye. I think the fact that my mother patched the wrong ( left ) eye when I was a young child didn`t help my situation. I`ve always had poor co-ordination e.g. never been good at catching balls etc . I love playing golf but have never really been any good at it, I guess the amblyopia is the reason for that.
emmm sorry to disappoint you guys .. but the patching only works in childhood .. before the age of 7 or 8 yrs .. If amblyopia is not corrected before then .. the brain developes irreversible amblyopia .. u can undergo surgeries like squint surgeries but that would only be fore cosmetic purposes .. it will not repair the diminution of vision in this eye neither the coordination .. hope i was useful
@bronkoghma ok then you must probablyknow how it feels like when other people around you (especially when you meet new people ) stare at your eyes .. that makes you feel really bad and depressed but I think you must fight with all you have to change this, I mean I heard that you can do some eye exercises and something like that to get 'em fixed .. Have you tried anything that could help me anything at home ...?
@bronkoghma well What are you doing now are you planning any operation or anything .? And hey I saw your channel you're from Croatia.... THAT's Great I lived there as a little kid I lived in Split It's a great country and I love it really :>thnx for chatting to me- sorry for bothering..
I have this and its bad.. I'm now 22 and embarrased because i can took at people a certain way. and i'm very insecure. Ive had two surgeries and nothing happened
i remember i was nine, my doctor said when i turn into a teen my eyes would never be fixed. lasor sergery isnt an option either i guess. it was a pain wearing patches all the time to.
My Son was born with a blocked tear duct (discharge leaking from his eye on date of birth-told by nurse it was normal)-eye infections not always responding to the same given eye drop antibiotics by doctor/s. But Im seeing some improvent in my 4 year old son with Amblyopia, hes wearing glasses and has to patch for 2 hours a day, and he had to g a couple of weeks without glasses while he had Ambylopia, because he broke his 1st pair and was waiting on another pair we ordered for him to come in.,
@mcredman92 listen to me please...! I have amblyopia (exotropia) myself and I never felt ashamed of it ,my friends didn't laugh at me when they saw me and I kinda forgot about it UNTIL NOW ( I'm 17) now I'm a teenager and you know I'm in high school and all this school changing and meeting new friends made me feel a little bad because when you meet new people the first impression they have is a stare right in my eyes (where I wish they wouldn't look at ever) so it feels bad..I hope I'll fix it
great I got told to wear glasses when I was a kid, pretty strong ones next to that. my left eye is fine and never would have needed glasses on it but they wanted to "correct" them both for some reason. parents told me to wear glasses even tho I had headache for years with it. at one point I stopped wearing them now many years later, today I went to check it out and I had to find out that people have been too stupid to figure out that I have Ambyopia.
Don't believe that critical period s***. I'm 21 and for the last 3.5 weeks have been (and continue to( patching 24/7 and my vision has improved from 16%-25% in that eye in one test wher the letters are pretty close together, and from 20%-50% or more in the test where the letters are farther away. (online vision acuity tests). However I'm on antidepressants (for other reasoins)-Zoloft 150mg and Wellbutrin 300mg, 3 days ago started Lamictal 25mg too, and there is one Italian study on rats treated
god fucking damn my ignorant ass parents, doctors wanted to treat me as a kid and they refused I feel like shit knowing there is not something out there that can help me
@Migslayer101 The doctors should have forced them. is that not some form of neglect? no offence.
Despite my mum taking me to the doctors as a child insisting there was something wrong they refused to test it. And there's no doubt the doctors neglected me.
I can't help but think there must be something that can be done, seeing as there is nothing physical wrong with brain or eye. I live in hope. I just wish people will stop being so complacent when it came to adults with this :(
eye specialist are just being stubborn towards adults if these links are just mussels then they can grow and get strong i think it can be fixed by extreme exercises china has proved this by sending people to boot camps where there constantly exercising the amblyopic eye and nearly every one has came out with visual improvements some even got 20/20 so don't listen to your doctor put you down when they say theirs nothing can be done just their laziness get a patch and force that eye to work!
I agreed with u, it's just logic. u don't suppress the good eye to get the bad eye "working", in fact exercises as u mention has worked for many. Now there r even computer program to stimulate the brain to ease or even "cure" Amblyopia.
I mainly use my left I becuase the vision is best (with contacts -3.75) but i still get double vision all the time even tho my brain has supressed my right eye.
@Semechki Thanks! It'd been awhile since I replied to this video and i'd forgotten abut it. I'm glad for the advice though, i might give it a try :) I'm a design student and vision is kind of important for that :D
@DrummergirlKJ yeah same here, i found out about it when i was 17, and they told me id have to be 4-MAX 7 for it to be treated. know im 23 and i still dont wanna belive that nothing can be done...

@ilirjannah yeah, i was prescribed some kind of exercises by the doctor back when i was a kid and strabismus was cured. amblyopia isn't, though.

@ilirjannah i'm not doing anything about. been treating it for 15 years and i gave up. as far as i know, surgeries don't help with amblyopia.
but your condition seems to be strabismus, and that CAN be helped with exercise.
PS Albania FTW :-D
