I was always kinda sad at the way it ended. I think it deserved if not a happy ending at least a hopeful one. The idea of Humanity being attacked by something like the Angels, but not just rolling over and dying, galvanising, building and finding a way to fight back was really cool.

Anyone with the will to come back can come back. We only ever see Asuka and Shinji but for all we know there might be small pockets of humans reemerging around the world. I like to believe that as I like to think that there are people with stronger mental individuality than Asuka and Shinji. so its a hopeful one ~~

Yes I'm not sure with Gendo though since because he wanted to reunite with his Yui Ikari in his version of 3rd impact, Except Eva-01 which copy of lilith Eva-01 may be a genetic clone of Lilith with the body form and core of an Adam-based Eva. Eva-01 may have inherited other properties. Even if it had genes derived from Adam, the matter it was made of originated from Lilith. ~~

@Zero4ph Also, to answer his other question, Adam had once been a full sized angel until the contact experiment where they essentially poked at adam with the lance of longinus. This is what reverted adam to an embryo and started the second impact if I remember correctly.

The symbology is really mostly window-dressing as far as I'm concerned, but it does contributes to the overarching impact of the series. The bigger parts of it are the psychoanalytic portions, the interpersonal relationships, and characterization. ~~

@NarutoLoverForever4 Depends on your opinion. The series is heavy on the angst, and this simply increases by about episode 19 or so.

For a mecha anime, it is fairly slow, more focusing on the characters, but in the end it's worth it.

@Sh4dowOfD34th No its not. Sure the animation in rebuild is some of the best ever created but the characters themselves are fer less developed which hurts its story overall. Rebuild 2.22 changed many things it shouldent have (like Asuka's entrance and the battle in the sea)

@Babylauncher3000 Well it's true that the characters aren't as developed in the series I think that's because they don't have as much time in a movie as they do in a TV series. I was also unsure about them changing so many things for the second movie but I've grown to like it. It is it's own story and it would be kind of lame if it just followed the original series until the until the very end.

The original is as said the "original" but the rebuild isnt a remake but rather a new telling of the story. 3.33 will be nothing like the original series and will be completely independent of the original story. Can't wait for the 3rd movie be it the final or not :D

@Babylauncher3000 I understand where you're coming from, but you judging the characterization in Rebuild is like judging the characterization from the original after only having watched up to episode 15. All of the character's motivation's hadn't been fully explored/explained at that point, and Rebuild is at the same point in series in respect to that. At least wait for the Rebuild series to be completed before you hand out heavy-handed judgments like that ;P

I honestly cannot imagine modern anime without NGE's menagerie of shot composition and boundary-pushing.
