  • I've been using this filter for quite some time now and I've changed my methods slightly. Rather than let the filter rest in the cup of coffee I often simply pour it through the filter into the cup so that the hot water only touches the coffee for five or ten seconds.

I especially like the idea of re-pouring the coffee back through the filter into a second mug. This would bring out the bold flavors. I will give that a try this week.

  • in sumatra, they use the same technique but without that wood accessory (chorreador?). instead of leaving the filter inside the mug, they re-filter the coffee in the first mug and pour it through the same filter into another mug. usually up to 3 times. this makes the coffee thicker without any burnt taste.

    anyway, thanks for the posting.

  • Doug - thanks so much for the advice! I've been using the chorreador for a few months now and it produces a good cup of coffee. I'll need to try your method to see if it makes an even better cup of coffee! I would have never expected the water only needed less than 5 seconds to work. Thanks for the hints!

  • Some advice for better CR coffee.

The Chorreador's legs are to short .You don't want the filter bag inside the cup. By keeping the filter above the cup you will get the coffee's sweetness and aroma once you pour the hot water(1st- 5 secs) If you soak the coffee the way you are doing it, the hot water will overcook the coffee releasing the bitterness in your cup and that will take away the sweetness and aroma wich is the heart of a good coffee cup.

You can buy a smaller filter.

    Pura Vida!
