Excellent rendition. Very well-paced and uniquely expressive, this rendition manages to perfectly convey that particular flavor of mourning and respect that I think Durufle very obviously intended to give his listeners. I won't comment on the registration, since I think it's fair to say with a recording this poor it's rather hard to tell what they are; all faults are the recording device's, not the instrument. The console nameplate should speak for the quality of worksmanship.
And it's nice to know that they're currently mid way through a restoration project which will have the acoustics improved and additions from the 1950s will be made to blend better with the original 1934 part of the organ. Wonderful news!
How durufle must have feel this lost of a great talented collegue. His music shares with us his great affection and love of a spoiled life who could bring us so much. Horrible organ, but love the energy and the effort!
Bravo! This is the best recording of this piece since the one recorded at St Patrick's Cathedral, NY about 30 years ago. This is a grand piece of music. Thank you for this video.
This organ is the Alexander Memorial Organ in Grace Cathedral, San Francisco (built by the Æolian-Skinner Company in 1934). It has 125 ranks and 7,466 pipes in seven divisions.
Note perfect, so much so the performer is too afraid to make her own registration changes. Put more emotion in your playing!!

What a beautiful piece of music for someone to compose and write in honor and remembrance of another human being. Awesome, to say the least!

This comment has received too many negative votes show
Great playing, but it would be better to do your own pistons, gives YOU more control, and it's kindof tacky to rely on others.

agreed.messiaen for me sensational, verging on the demonic !!!
durufle; such humanity that conveys a deep spirituality thats understandable.
Britten;trying to find here his brilliant organ/choir work 'festival te deum'? !!! another prodigous composer.

Such a loving magnificent fugue. Thank you Maurice and thank you Anna. I must compose on A-F-F-A.
Place camcorder in manual exposure to brighten view. Better view of your hands and feet, not back.
Name, place, organ, date, etc.
