It has been proven time and again banning certain breeds does not work and according to the National Canine Council there is no "monster" dog. These bans are started by hysterical people who don't look up the facts. Banning is a knee jerk reaction without facts to back them up. This saddens me, i love my two pits, one has been attacked multiple times by labs and other breeds, i grew up around "dangerous" Rottweilers also and i never got bitten u really need to train your animals. Theres also a hit and miss with every breed, some dogs are aggressive period but they arent born to kill people.... If it were a regular number per area like a Dob , or Rotti - we would not have this negative impact . In my area there are about 6 pits in 4000 population , no problems ever .German Shepherds cause ALL the problems as far as animal and human attacks .
Spay and neuter your dogs and know what you are doing with your dogs. If a dog shows any signs of aggression get professional help with a dog trainer as soon as possible. Do not let it slide. It certainly isn't the dog's fault. A Pomeranian in 2000 was left alone with an infant and killed it. People need to be more responsible about their dogs. It is up to the human to make any dog safe around people and animals.
We had a healthy pregnant woman get killed by her sweet lovable pitbull this last summer in Pacifica, California. I don't think I've ever heard of any other kind of dog kill their owners like this. Does anyone know of any instances? Her pitbulls were considered sweet dogs by the entire community, but apparently when she got pregnant they think it had something to do with it. They also had to shoot the dog to get to the woman who had been torn to shreds.

This is very sad, and i feel for the family, however, don't blame it on the Pitbull breed! People say Pitbulls, German shepherds, and Rott's are nasty breeds, and Lab's are so wonderful.. well, i was in the Vet with my female German shepherd, and right beside me was a Pitbull. Both our dogs were were calm and even sniffing each other, YET, a lady sitting across from us had to be removed because her Lab was out of control jumping and snapping at people passing by!! DONT PUNISH THE BREED!!

This is insane! :( but I was told, if they are not raised right, they get like that..Once PitBulls taste blood they automatically get vicious...If they were raised right though. They wouldn't get like that but honestly, you have to end up yelling at your dog for things like peeing on the carpet or making a mess and if you cant do that without the thing eating you then that CRAZY!! so this was honestly sad! @vampnj You're correct. The main problem with this breed is that it's very difficult to make it stop once it starts attacking, not to mention the amount of damage it can inflict. It may have been alright for this breed if the owners were more responsible, but since a lot of the owners don't give a damn, it's time to start looking at the US banning this breed.
What we have here is that too many people DONT KNOW HOW TO RAISE AND READ THE DOG. They cant say when the dog is fearfull, dominant, posessive or agressive. They wold probably be bitten by a Poodle or a Chihuahua, but the pitbulls bits are much more powerfull.

@MarilynDarling I wouldn't worry if the US does ban this breed. Pit bulls are banned in the UK, but people can still own them as long as they go through strict regulations and own licences. All you will be seeing is more responsible people owning these dogs, rather than the people who let their dog run loose. It really is worth putting the ban through the US.

I have a Pit & it is very sweet . A lot of these dogs called Pit Bulls are not true Pits . They are mixed breed by backyard breeders . A true Pit will not weigh over 60 lbs .
I think everyone with a Pit or a Rottie or GS or Dobbie or a man stopping breed , should have to have a license & a home evaluation .
They should also do a temperament test on the Dog . There should be stiff requirements to have these strong breed dogs .
There's something I don't understand here though. It makes sense that the dog owners are always responsible for things like this happening with dog behavior. But alot of the time these dogs are not treated badly, are trained dogs, but it's like they just snap out of nowhere. I never heard of this happening with other dog breeds unless the dog is sick, has a disability with sight or hearing, etc. So why do dogs do this? why do they strike out of nowhere? Nord, what exactly does this have to do with me? With our argument? It cost me almost 300$ to spay my dog, she eats only top of the line dog food because she has alergies to corn (as many pits do) food alone cost around 65$ a month, not to mention her yearly shots, licencing ect... there is nothing cheap about being a responsible owner that loves and wants only the best for their dogs. And the people that cannot or do not provide what is needed for their animal of anykind, should not own them!

Any med to large size animal has the the potential to be dangerous! I absalutly hate that this is happening at all, not just because its happening to my breed of choice. I'm all about regulating owners without punishing the breed or the responsible owners, but I believe we have to regulate all breed owners so that this does not happen a again. And yes, my dogs do have the potential to be dangerous, they have have teeth! But that doesn't mean they are!
We could take away and kill every reature and object that has the potential to be dangerous(much more dangerous than a pit) but that would be dumb and not to mention cruel! So how exactly is it ok to take away and kill countless pitbulls that have not and will never hurt anyone, just because of the ONE out of hundreds of thousands turns out dangerous and hurts someone? Its not right!

Spay and neuter your dogs and know what you are doing with your dogs. If a dog shows any signs of aggression get professional help with a dog trainer as soon as possible. Do not let it slide. It certainly isn't the dog's fault. A Pomeranian in 2000 was left alone with an infant and killed it. People need to be more responsible about their dogs. It is up to the human to make any dog safe around people and animals.

We had a healthy pregnant woman get killed by her sweet lovable pitbull this last summer in Pacifica, California. I don't think I've ever heard of any other kind of dog kill their owners like this. Does anyone know of any instances? Her pitbulls were considered sweet dogs by the entire community, but apparently when she got pregnant they think it had something to do with it. They also had to shoot the dog to get to the woman who had been torn to shreds.

This is very sad, and i feel for the family, however, don't blame it on the Pitbull breed! People say Pitbulls, German shepherds, and Rott's are nasty breeds, and Lab's are so wonderful.. well, i was in the Vet with my female German shepherd, and right beside me was a Pitbull. What we have here is that too many people DONT KNOW HOW TO RAISE AND READ THE DOG. They cant say when the dog is fearfull, dominant, posessive or agressive. They wold probably be bitten by a Poodle or a Chihuahua, but the pitbulls bits are much more powerfull.
Those UNPREPARED people SHOULD NOT BE RAISING ANY BREED OF DOGS. Thumbs down for this video.

@ozena52 I think Pitbulls are highly intelligent compared to other dogs and that's why people should know how to properly raise them. 97% of Pitbull attacks are by unneutered males. Get your dog desexed, and educate yourself on the breed. Also, yes, there are PLENTY of occasions where smaller dogs are nasty and bite people, but they're small, so they don't cause as much damage, therefore, you don't hear about it.

@MarilynDarling I wouldn't worry if the US does ban this breed. Pit bulls are banned in the UK, but people can still own them as long as they go through strict regulations and own licences. All you will be seeing is more responsible people owning these dogs, rather than the people who let their dog run loose. It really is worth putting the ban through the US.

I have a Pit & it is very sweet . A lot of these dogs called Pit Bulls are not true Pits . They are mixed breed by backyard breeders . A true Pit will not weigh over 60 lbs .
I think everyone with a Pit or a Rottie or GS or Dobbie or a man stopping breed , should have to have a license & a home evaluation .
They should also do a temperament test on the Dog . There should be stiff requirements to have these strong breed dogs .

There's something I don't understand here though. It makes sense that the dog owners are always responsible for things like this happening with dog behavior. But alot of the time these dogs are not treated badly, are trained dogs, but it's like they just snap out of nowhere. I never heard of this happening with other dog breeds unless the dog is sick, has a disability with sight or hearing, etc. So why do dogs do this? why do they strike out of nowhere? Not a dog expert so forgive my ignorance.

Nord, what exactly does this have to do with me? With our argument? It cost me almost 300$ to spay my dog, she eats only top of the line dog food because she has alergies to corn (as many pits do) food alone cost around 65$ a month, not to mention her yearly shots, licencing ect... there is nothing cheap about being a responsible owner that loves and wants only the best for their dogs. And the people that cannot or do not provide what is needed for their animal of anykind, should not own them!

Any med to large size animal has the the potential to be dangerous! I absalutly hate that this is happening at all, not just because its happening to my breed of choice. I'm all about regulating owners without punishing the breed or the responsible owners, but I believe we have to regulate all breed owners so that this does not happen a again. And yes, my dogs do have the potential to be dangerous, they have have teeth! But that doesn't mean they are!
