I live in, and was born and raised in Wisconsin... I would like to take this time to Graciously Thank each and every one of you across our great nation.
Greetings from Texas! Your fight is far from forgotten! We (SDS and a few Volunteers, with the endorsements from the Dallas County Democrats, Communications Workers of America Local 6201, Dallas Stage Employees Local #127, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 20, and a few more) are staging a May Day March and Rally on May 1, 2011 in support of your struggle in Wisconsin. You are not forgotten!
@AmericasMaji Thank you so much. Every rally across the country and message of solidarity from around the world has meant so much to the people struggling to be heard in Wisconsin. Now it is July, and we are still here.
I am inspired by this video. The simplicity of it is what makes it great. My children have watched it, & read the text. They all have a firm grasp of what is happening, and the stakes in this struggle. They ask questions about what is happening. They want to participate in our democracy. Thanks for you your contribution to America and WI "TheBadgerMom". If seeing my kids and other kids at the rally's reaction to all of this is any indication.....the US and WI will be in good hands....Solidarity
Impressive, moving and true. Gathers info on all effects of Budget Bill, not just the union busting. Plus the transfer of power to corporations, who are sitting on almost $2T and won't hire until there is demand anyway regardless of deals Walker gives them.
Thank you so much for this. I have not yet found a video that really captures the spirit of the protest, the beauty of the WI people, or the clarity of the issues. This is brilliant. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Thank you TheBadgerMom! I am a member of MTI and have been involved in this struggle from day one and I feel that this truly is the single best video out there that explains our struggle. I am going to share it with my republican and tea party friends! Solidarity!
Just thought I'd let you know, I am college student at UW River Falls and my Intro. to Rhetoric class examined this video to show how powerful words can be. Thanks for putting together such an inspiring video and showing just how many people are going to be affected by this.
EXCELLENT work. A friend of mine added to the list: wetlands, wind energy, environmental proposals. And, please, don't forget the slashes to the Wisconsin Arts Board. LOVE the sign-- SPRING IS OURS
Thank you for saying it in plain English for those who are clueless! I, too, love the music! I've been fighting the good fight here in Madison and will continue to do so!
@rdavidwolfe That's right; first part of video features "Strength and Honor," second part features "Now We Are Free," for anyone looking to add to their itunes list. Thanks!
The only part I would take issue with is claiming the wealthy that benefit are people with health savings accounts. I have some friends where I used to work that have those, but they certainly are not wealthy. That line is the one thing that keeps me from posting this on my facebook page. I know those former co-workers would rip into that. They're Walker supporters, but I think I'm breaking them....
The way I see it there are a whole bunch of us out here in the "middle class" (small business owners and others working for those small business owners) who are not considered in the rhetoric that is being cast by the unions and those who simply believe that giving over 50% of our earned income away is selfish and simply not enough! While still having to pay the employee's paycheck, try to save for our own retirement, pay for our own health insurance & co-pays, pay for our kids college. REALLY?
@l7m7l The middle class has a legitimate gripe. But so long as the middle class believes in coddling the rich (perhaps because of some long-shot fantasy of someday joining them), it will have a problem. The great success of the rich (and particularly the .5% of the population that is super-rich) has been in getting the middle to cast its eyes downward in the search for the cause of the squeeze it is feeling, rather than looking upward. Houdini himself would be in awe of this sleight of hand.
This gives me great hope that we will finally begin to do something about the massive increase in inequality that has taken place in just the last 30 years. The tea partiers are angry but incoherent, including in their ranks many who have just cause for anger but no clear understanding of the origins of the problem. In contrast, we seem to know what we are about. And we're not going to take it any more!
@l7m7l I have no idea what you're talking about. It happens that I am trained in the scientific analysis of social movements, and I can back up what I posted.

@TOGoS56 While it is true that ID's is possessive, IDs and ID's are correct ways to make ID plural. In fact, prior to typewriters being commonplace, ID's was standard. Check your dictionary for more information. :)
Thanks. I am still protesting nearly everyday. This will be a long fight. I am hoping to work more on the recalls. Thanks for reminding me of what this is all about. I will keep fighting! On Wisconsin!
@me3931 As I say below, I agree. You are right, and I think it shows compassion and thoughtfulness on the part of viewers to point this out to me. I would only add that I am unaware of any proposed legislation that specifically targets men per se. On the other hand, I consider an attack on PP to be a specific attack on women and children; likewise an attack on Badgercare to be an attack on poor families, etc. This went into my original thoughts. I appreciate your comments. Thank you.
@Magicienne2005 This is not an argument. This is simply name-calling, which I don't consider constructive, even from my children. If you have an argument to make, I would consider leaving it here as a comment. If you don't know how to make an argument, I'm sure you can search for "How to make an argument," or "What is reason?" and get some good tips. Thanks for viewing.
@TheBadgerMom Well, I was not trying to put forth an argument to the video. To do that in print would take hours. I'll just take on one issue quickly: The so-called right to register to vote and vote on the same day. This is a policy that is just ripe for fraud. With "motor voter" in effect there's no reason for a person to have to register on Election Day. Also, there are good reasons why college IDs are not valid for voting, having to do again with potential fraud. Does this not concern you?
This video is very good. I do have two complaints. First, white men can be victims of discrimination. As such, I was disappointed when it went from babies, kids, university students, famers, low income workers, women.. and then failed to say “men.” Secondly, I don’t see a problem with medical savings accounts. Until we get socialized medicine, medical savings accounts are a good thing for those people, including the middle class, who must buy their own health insurance on the market.
@krwessel1 You are right; men will also be the victims of these proposals. Any shift of public rights and wealth to private hands is a loss to every citizen. Men are among the working poor who will lose tax credits. Men are among the BadgerCare & SeniorCare recipients who will lose benefits. Likewise, I read about specific cuts to health programs for unmarried men, which will end their access to important, basic, services, like cancer screening. I had to condense the arguments somewhat. Thanks
@krwessel1 I think men are counted in "people who drink water". But maybe I'm wrong.
As for the health savings accounts... they're great! They're also only available to those who have a job with good benefits. My employer just dropped our FSA program with no warning this year, which is going to cost our family about $700 in additional taxes. But they only benefit people who are employed and have a decent taxable income. We're cutting neonatal testing to provide benefits to that group? No.
I think this is the SINGLE BEST video on our struggle. Thanks so much for making it! I'm trying my hardest to make it go viral! And by the way, my friend Jackie met you on Saturday at the Capitol. :) The Spring will be Ours!
@sammyjava Thank you so much! I will say here THANK YOU to everyone for all your 'likes' and kind, thoughtful comments. We are still here and still fighting! We are working to recall republican senators now, and recall Governor Scott Walker in January. We are still struggling to be heard at the Capitol, and at town hall meetings. Do not forget what's happening in Wisconsin, because this is really going to happen everywhere, if we let it. Solidarity!
But are these otherwise tough cutting decisions or are they something else. Even if any collective bargaining were simply tabled for a limited time, would it have mattered?
@drDanbeatty Tough cutting decisions truly do need to be discussed. However, I don't find any discussion of cuts to the public good credible if that discussion does not also include increasing revenue, through taxation of corporations and the very rich. Thanks for viewing and for your thoughts.
@TheBadgerMom True, the taxation and spending is always going to be up for debate. With the exceptions of a few sectors of public good, there no tangible thing to put a price tag on. We can't put a price tag on safety from crime or fire. One can put a price tag on an educated citizen, but who could afford it? Furthermore, taxation is limited to income, consumption and property. Thus there is a conundrum. I don't live in Wisconsin, but I do feel your pain even nothing can be done.
Thank you for stating all of this in words I don't think anyone with half a brain could misunderstand. In one year I've watched my family make over 60,000 a year for the first time and myself begin college then in that same year be unsure if my father will have a job in six months and myself not knowing if I can even get loans to pay for school. You're right it's about power and that should always rest in the hands of the people. ALL the people.
You couldn't have said this any better. I cried watching this... You found the words to say so simply, so beautifully and so peacefully what I wish the rest would see. I hope this gets the exposure it deserves and we need. Thank You!
@Mcwooster I agree with you totally. Just wondering if we share a College of Wooster history? This was our collegiate mother's milk here in this video.
The Forbes 400 now have a greater combined net worth than the bottom 50% of U.S. households. The richest 10% control 73% of the wealth. The bottom 90% control 27%. Google "income gap poor rich" to get the bad news. Or Google "It's the Inequality, Stupid" for charts. Also, Google "2011 Executive Compensation: Taking Stock" and see what happened to the taxpayers' bailout funds
“I have one dollar in my wallet. That’s more than the combined income tax liability of GE, ExxonMobil, Citibank, and the Bank of America. That means somebody is gaming the system.” Carl Gibson, the founder of US Uncut
Nobody, neither state nor this country, is "broke'. We've let the rich rob us blind and they are hording the resources. "Republicans are defunding programs aimed at helping the average Joe so they can give (more) tax cuts to corporations and the wealthy. How selfish can they possibly be?" -Carl Caroli (Huffington Post commenter)
Thank you for the video. It brought me to tears, but I'm not sad. Rather, I'm overwhelmed at the power and momentum of this movement. You're absolutely right: We are outraged. We are organized. We will win.
Funny thing is when you watch and listen to the right they show the power shift happening just the opposite way. They constantly talk about the redistribution of wealth the left is creating. When I talked to Joel Kleefisch the other day I told him that the right had their own form of redistribution of wealth, one that would decimate the middle class. Typically he couldn't figure out what I was talking about.
SOOO. If you don't know what the problem is....how are you ever going to fix it?

The largest "union" in America is the "gov workers union"...and it is not like any other "UNION" in the private sector. Part of the problem
The U.S. CORPORATION-DC is the majority share holder of the crony-global-FORTUNE500.
It is over 180,000 fake "gov/fund/enterprise/dept" CORPORATIONS with CAFR reports and DUN&BRAD STREET ratings.
"Tax budgets" are for suckers...CAFR reports are for CORPORATIONS.
It is not America, we the people, or Constitutional anything. It is UCC/ADMIRALTY LAW.
