sorry but I have to completely disagree with the drum commentator paul about the left hand being "pretty good".. the finger control when you switched to traditional grip shows excellent control and stellar....keep rockin it
Yeaa ... You're right bodyarmor55. But I'm just saying that he had his cymbals on his right is great. Just to test that his left hand is as good as it seems (because there's a way to do the spanky, chris dave licks with or without no rebound) put the cymbals to the left. I've seen Dennis do that once. It amazed me completely. Also it will definitely show everything you might wanna see in the great ... fresh .. new drummer.
Nice! I see you had all you cymbals on one side. That's pretty cool, but yet ... it be can be sick if you all your cymbals one your left. That's my challenge for you. If you could do that, i'd give you kudos for life. You have a great right hand & a pretty good left hand, but let's bring up the standards.
Peace,
The Drum Commentator
P.S. Once you go to gospel/jazz drumming ... there's no going back!
Hey man you sound great....been watchin your videos for a while now...anyways, I was curious as to what your warm up and general practice routine consists of...do you play stuff really slow at first? do you use a metronome?....I just like to hear different people's methods...l.let me know and keep playing man
Translation for Zach: " Hello. It's always a great pleasure to listen to you play. I watch many videos on youtube, they go by and then i never watch them again. But yours are a pleasure to watch and listen, and re-listen! You're musical, tecnhical and inventive. Many well-known drummers don't even reach up to your ankles (an expression-they don't compare to you in other words). Keep it going and hats off to you,
I like your comment man. I think that when I listen to the double bass speed metal guys and it sounds like a camel farting - fast for the sake of fast. ZMoney or someone like JoJo Mayer have the chops but also musicality
this is exactly the kind of drummer i'm trying to be. i've been playing piano for 7 yrs and drums for about 3, most of that being just snare. I've gotten into the art of jazz and improvising melodies in piano for some time and have incorportated some of that into my drumming. sometimes i do what you do and make a backing track in an odd time signature on piano and jam to it (cept i make it in FL studio) anyway you inspire us all. I'm 14.
Very inspirational! inspite of being shirtless! Ha, ha!...for an older musician like myself. If there was a way to distill that into my playing and situation, I'd be all over it!?
If you ever get to a point of passing this on...via the internet/thru instruction...I'm on board...
SICKNESS, brother! There aren't very many YouTube drummers I get pumped over, but you're one of the few I *really* enjoy watching, and I learn something from you every time.
You're a killer with your ghost notes on the snare, and I love the muted strokes and cross-stick work you do - so tight!
Consider me a fan. I'm with the guy below: waitin' for you to break onto the big scene. What's your real name, anyways? I wanna' know who to watch for in Modern Drummer and Downbeat. :D
the soul of Art Blakey, the technique of dave weckl. Hell, I practised alot, ButI could practise for the next ten years, and im never going to be this good. Thats just a fact.
Very artistic! Love the style! Lots of contrast, good dynamics... Great pictures you draw... There's a story... It's always going somewhere... I love this... I would love to play with you some day. Thanks :)
Nice Dude, interesting trad grip. I like the shirt off. And it's always the infamous stick drop to kill the vibe. I really dig your playing, your phrasing works and you have some unique concepts. keep it up.
what pattern do you use especially when you do rolling here, is it RLRRLLRLRRLL also or is it RLRLRLRL only?
thanks man great groovin solo i like it!

@paulalexanderjohnson i guess he has his cymbals on the right cause the camera is on the left, and you wouldn t see him with a cymbal right there....
