  • Back when L.A. was a nice place to eat, sleep, and shop. Before it became the cesspool it is today!

  • i'd love to visit LA in the 50's and 60's!

  • Thank you for including Pacific Ocean Park.

  • They look cleaner and better because they were. When white men were the majority it was good, but now with millions of spics the place has become the first undeveloped state in USA.

  • @Valkyriepure Agreed! Like the other major cities of America, they've become gang, drug, crime infested war zone sewers imploding with the illegal import of their added social problems. The non whites destroy especially since the jail break of the civil rights era. Ever since then, our national problems have grown worse every decade. Then, like in big cities one could walk about without fear of being robbed, stabbed, raped or having your can stolen.

  • @Valkyriepure retard......white men are like animals destroying everything in its' way. Say that to a native-indian , biggest crime ever

  • All these places like Wilshire Boulevard, Hollywood/Highland, etc look soooo much better then....

They all look like shit now.

  • I notice the areas shown look newer, neat, and clean. I guess things have gotten a rather worn look over time.

  • I've actually seen your comments in the LA Times before, lol. Anyway, some GREAT photos that you've acquired. Thanks for sharing with all of us!

P.S. - I have a comprehensive time-lapsed video of the Hollywood Freeway, in case you're interested in watching.

  • @FreewayBrent

    Thanks for your comment.

Yes, I want very much to see your time-lapsed video of the Hollywood Freeway.

I will go to your profile now.

    George

  • This is wonderful. Back at a time when you could actually walk down the streets in LA and not worry about being shot or robbed!

  • Thanks George for taking time in putting this

wonderful upload together..Shows alot of love

    to us from you..

    God bless you..

  • What's lacking in motion is more than made up for by near-perfect picture quailty!

  • "No matter what your elders say, the past is always romanticized." - John Updike

  • no trees in american cities how dull and boring ,today much greener and cleaner ,love L.A. because all culture of the world live here now, todays L.A. is the third richest metro after tokyo and new york in the world

  • Wow. That spider thingy at the airport has been there forever.

  • Really this is the place where movies were started and still are made. They forgot the great story of L.A. It would make for a great movie that covers 100 years or so.

  • How did L.A. go from orange groves to 40's corruption to clean 50's and 60's to the mess it is now?

  • whoa, too many honkeys for me

  • crap where is the litter..

  • When America was at her zenith.

  • At 53 years old, I'm just old enough to remember all that goodness, that was L.A. in the 60's.

  • Looked beautiful without those hideous glass boxes everywhere. The massive earthquake cannot come soon enough for me. Glad I got to see the last days of Bunker Hill.

  • I Love L.A.!

  • Enjoyable pics, thanks.

  • wished i lived in the 60s

  • Safer times for LA.

  • Seems like L.A. used to be a normal City! Not the still-detached-from-the-next-person, overcompensating mess it is now...

  • It's never ceases to amaze me that no matter what is posted on YouTube (even when the material is wholesome and nice), there are racist comments made in response to it. That's what's wrong with most of mankind. SMH.

  • @LAWoman323213 - With these "vintage America" clips, there usually are a few people making disparaging remarks about how minorities are presumably being left out of the picture, remarks about it being "too white", lack of diversity in "racist" America, etc.

  • Fantastic

  • Cool! Uprated.

  • Ha! The Frolic Room was still there right by The Pantages. It'll be there after a nuclear winter, but everyone in the place will be cockaroaches instead.

  • look at how clear the sky was ...we really fucked shit up

  • i would have lived in los angeles back in 1950, beautiful....... but now to live in los angeles, youd have to want to live in a big deep smelting pot of SHIT with big fungaled floating turds all around you!!!!! A REAL SHAME

  • Great job, George -- nice high-res quality images. I remember LA in the 60's ( I was 5) but I still remember Sambo's, Coco's, POP Santa Monica, etc, etc. Traffic actually moved back then...

  • i wish i grew up in these times i hate the new LA i live in hawthorne and have seen how it looked before and want to go back in time! im 16

  • @michaelangel95 Move out of Hawthone when you're older. I would hate L.A. too if I lived there. There are much better parts of L.A. indeed.

  • I grew up in LA in the 60's and remember when it looked like that. Nice trip down memory lane.

  • Back when L.A. was a clean (except for the smog!) American city. As for the smog, at least we built things in the LA basin then. The strong manufacturing base left in the late 1970s and our social problems started to grow.

  • @lasuvidaboy exactly !!! most knuckle head thugs of the 40s and 50s and 60s grew up eventually and got blue collar jobs at the factories such as the factories along Alameda st... by the 1970s those jobs were gone so who hired the thugs? The drug market hired them as security guards to the dope dealers ...and the security guards (gangsters) wanted in on the drug dealing so they became drug dealers themselves .... the rest is history....

  • WOW JACK IN THE BOX :)

  • That McDonald's restaurant at 2:04 is on Florence Ave. and Lakewood Blvd. in the city of Downey, CA. I drive by it coming back from work everyday (well, Monday through Friday) and still looks the same

  • @12101916 sorry but actually all McDonald's had that old style look back then.

  • Remember when you could buy a house in Manhattan Beach for under $25,000?

  • This is great! Thanks!

  • wow can u believe how nice LA was! man hard the see that it came from that to what it is today

  • @DJREALISTIK

Tell me about it. I grew up in LA in the 50's, it was a clean safe WHOLESOME town, now it's a shit hole because our FUCKED UP GOVERNMENT has sold us down the river and told us that niggers and mexicoons are good for us.
