@ElStagehand Thanks! Donate a dollar to get it moving this year -- I hope to outdo myself with a couple of new rigs, and we're organizing with the powers that be to photograph a lot of the artists with their installations. Every dollar helps! ;-)
Really well done, I know how difficult it is to get a clear shot on the playa!!!
Eric, stop by our theme camp "Lazor Lounge", we are putting on the 1 Mile Clock Project this year. I'll have motorized stuff you can use and would like to invite you to our Tribe.
@TheAyev8tor Awesome, I'm there. Thank you! Donate a dollar to this year's project if you can! We're reaching far to outdo last year, but I need everyone's help!
You definitely caught the spirit of the people of Black Rock City.... Thanks for sharing it with us all. Hope to see you on the Playa.... You need some hot young groupie girls or boys, to cart all your stuff for you, or better yet set up a tent along the esplanade and have the people come in for photo shoots and something cool to drink and save your feet from treking so much. You are working too hard at it! You rock, the people will come to you!
@mwitty100 the hard work and journey was part of the fun! I'm thinking of rigging lights to a 4-wheel bike this year as well, then I can bring more power! Groupies who like carrying/pushing things always encouraged! CU ON THE PLAYA
The American Indians believed that cameras and photographs captured their spirits and this is essentially true. You captured beautifully the diverse loveliness of the Playa People. Thank you for sharing your art.
It takes major balls to take a Mamiya and a digital back to Burning Man, that's some majorly expensive equipment... I couldn't help but think "He's gonna break that poor camera". But the photos are clearly worth it, they're awesome and so is your outfit/lighting rig combination.
@snoop0x7b Thanks - I got great advice before I went from @MikeHedge, who has taken the RED camera to BM more than once. His advice really made is possible, and simple.
Great stuff! We were there, and we will be there this year too - even if we don't pick you out of the thousands, best wishes and thanks for this good video!
awesome work man! i couldn't imagine lugging around that kind of equipment for your sake and for the sake of your gear in the middle of a hot ass desert.
Awesome video! I'm posting this to Fstoppers on Monday, email us any additional info if you want to share it...I'd love to know how you sponsored this and used such expensive gear in such a hostile environment. Keep making great BTS videos like this and we will keep featuring them :)
@FStoppers Awesome, thanks! Fundraising was primarily done through Kickstarter. I'll announce this year's project on Facebook / Twitter - @SchwabelStudio
what would be the difference in the camera backs that would allow you to use only 1 b2 pack??...krasy yeah I can imagine those lights straining your shoulders, structural engineering design= fasinating!!
@1gmarquez the DF body and lenses use leaf shutters and can sync with strobes up to 1/1600-sec. Since I was limited to 1/125th for sync, I had more daylight to overpower to get the depth (particularly in the sky) that I was after, so we needed more power... if that makes sense? lo
@1gmarquez we used one pack per head - so two packs -- if I had been able to rent a Mamiya / Phase One DF body I would have gone with just one pack. I got head extensions and put the packs on the bike. Unfortunately I don't have any footage of it but on the last day of shooting, I changed the setup so the lights were directly overhead, and no wheels supporting them (which f*cked up my shoulder but it was worth it lol)
Awesome work you have done!! Now one of my fav videos!! :)
