  • As for the people who critisize the styling, us aussies like tastefully designed cars without garish ugly bodykits and fake useless scoops and flares that add nothing to performance (ie anything america produces). Consider it understated yet dynamic like BMW M division and Mercs AMG products. And its a proper rear wheel drive v8 at a reasonable price like the muscle cars of old but with handling ability, not a FWD wannabe like the rest of the pontiac range (and many others).

  • First of all its an australian designed and engineered car with very little input from american engineers, except the engine/transmission from the GM global parts catalogue and a hideous pontiac designed nose. The original Monaro wasnt related to anything america produced but for the 327/350 chev v8 top line models.

  • fuck gtos their fuckin gay.

  • 2004? the footage looks like it was filmed in 1984

  • because we build fucking sweet cars the americans cant bulid them any more so they out source to us taking our commodores the only thing they dont have yet is the hsv e2 maloo ute its sex on wheels it would flog the monaro now

  • This car had everything but looks.

  • Long live American muscle!

  • What's a Pontiac?

  • Poor decisions, such as the decision to produce this piece of shit, helped to sink Pontiac. This car was an embarrassment to the Pontiac brand name...nevermind Gto. If any of you (especially those of you commenting about its great fuel economy) park next to my Trans Am. I'm going to key your compact sedan piece of shit imposter.

  • F that, u park ur TA next 2 my GOAT and get whooped..

  • Trans Am was the flagship model for Pontiac for 30 years and deservedly so, it looked the part and performed like a muscle car. Regardless of this cars performance, it looks like something you'd rent while in town for a business meeting. It's also under tired with too much drag and it would never out perform a Trans Am on a (road) race track. To even call that thing a goat is a joke.

  • Bonneville was Pontiacs Flagship model NOT Trans-Am get real, the Trans-Am was nice but it in no way is better than the GTO.I like how some of you glorify the older GTO's when the last GTO had 200hp and the first GTO was just a Tempest with a big motor in it get out of here with that garbage.

  • "The Trans Am was nice but it in no way is better than the GTO"...Park your GTO piece of shit next to my #2 condition 25th Trans Am and then tell me your car looks better. Then ask 100 people which one they'd rather have.

  • The Trans Am still had the buldge in the floor from the cat/converter and baby seats in the back with very poor build quality and plastic interior, better drag car Trans Am/Formula,better all around car GTO don't blame the GTO for GM's failure that car was just too late in the game to make up the downward spiral that could be traced back to the F-body twins poor sales.

  • @fukinblowme For looks Yeah the Trans Am is deffinately better lookin and more aggressive. I was lookin at getting an F-Body last year drove a few, then found a GT and figured i would test drive it and fell in love with it. Its a Whole different feel from an F-Body. IMO Looks i would Take a T/A hands down, but Performance and Ride... Its GTO all the way.

  • trans ams are the shit... but the 6.0 stock GTO is faster than the stock WS6... and it has side air bags.... rear seats that you can actually sit in and not hate ... a rear window that you can see out off and a far better interior.....

  • Faster in a straight line, yeah, but faster on a road course, I doubt it. Anyway, it looks like a car an insurance salesman would drive. Was that the target market demographic Pontiac had in mind when they drew this thing up ? Poor research and development, poor marketing and ultimately a poor product. Performance is only part of the equation. That thing sucks goat balls.

  • main reaosn i didnt buy a trasam was because the passenger side space really really........ sucks. my long legs are bothered by the crappy space in the car.

  • TA nice but it is the camaros little brother it will never out shine it big brother so it looks to me like pontiac cant figure out shit..o yea the gto is faster

  • @fukinblowme My car keyed or NOT... Ud still get BEAT

  • i love how under the hood is so muscle and basic unlike my old lt1 lol

  • i love this car. i had one with the ls2 and i was able to get nearly 30mpg on the highway. so the v8 haters and tree huggers can suck my dick.

  • What are you holden?

  • I was one of the first to condemn this car. IT looks like a Ford Contour BUT today, I went to look at trading in my vette for a Caddy (something I dodn't want to do) and the dealer said, "look what I got!"

I wasn't impressed UNTIL I DROVE THE CAR.

This 04 is this 350 v8 with a 4 spd auto...you drive it and you will start looking at what you thought was ugly in a much different light.

  • I totally agree with you.

  • @xtranaut you should really check out a G8 GT or GXP

  • @xtranaut just wait til you drive the LS2........ I drove the LS1 and then later bought the LS2 and I gotta say I was absolutely blown away. I don't care what anybody says, you just can't beat these cars, especially with a little money in them ;)

  • Looks like a Grand Am with a V8. The performance is excellent, but as far as calling it the "GTO" i would have chosen a different name. Nice car though

  • Something many do not know is that the Holden Monaro was originally based on the late 60s Pontiac LeMans!

  • @knytrydr73 There's about three different versions of that rumour. One is the Pontiac Le Mans (styling cues only) another is that it allegedly borrows its style from an Opel model. In reality, if you can ignore the roofline of the first Monaro, practically EVERYTHING is borrowed from the HK Holden Kingswood sedan on which it's based. Just as the '04 VY Holden Monaro is based on a VX Holden Commodore sedan

  • I got 27-28 mpg on the hiway at 65mph with my 06 six speed. That was before I put in the heads and cam muah ha ha ha

  • it's a holden

  • Its a GM which means its a Holden, a Pontiac, and a Vauxhall. General Motors owns all, muah, ha ha ha ha

  • well, it was made by holden so it's a holden, who might be owned by GM, but it's still a holden

  • i own an 06 GTO and it's fucking awesome. mine is orange metallic and gets stares and conversations frequently. it's a wonderful car, and very underrated. and i'm glad because it's not very common and is an instant collectible car.

  • jroder, you full of crap

  • Wallet?? the Only bad thing about it is just buying the gas for it, for which it will need allot. Otherwise no complaints. A fine muscle car for today.

  • GTO gets 25-28 mpg, so thats not bad for gas

  • not it doesnt

  • thats probably the highway mpg if my mom is driving it

  • I just took a 900 mile road trip in my GTO, and averaged 27.3 mpg!

  • lucky if i get 17mpg in mine after a fw tank refills i am averaging 14.9

  • Yea, my average on a whole tank is usually 18 or so. I drive a lot on the highway daily and it'll do high 20's, but once I get into town it starts suckin' the gas. It's the stop and go of city driving that brings me down to 18. Sucks...

  • thats cause the car is shitty

  • The whole car is a joke. It is lacking refinement. The Car is too heavy, making that v8 loose a ton of its 400hp just getting the car to move. The suspension is set unbelievably soft, making it hard to corner fast. The interior is Cheap plastic all around. And its Just ugly anyway. The only good thing is the sound that the v8 produces, its beautiful with a cat-back exhaust!

It seems to me that pontiac rushed it. It doesnt seem like they spent much time on the track fine tuning the thing.

  • its a holden dude, not pontiac

  • well if the cars bland just put your wallet into it

  • Only mistake with this car was that it lacked the 'in your face' garish American styling, u just can't sell bland looking cars in the US, it must stand out...even if it's ugly! Look at what they did to the Aussie sourced Pontiac G8

  • This car died in the USA!!!! They are sitting on the lots 2 years after the fact!!! What a joke!!!

  • Why don't you drive one!

  • This car did not die. Pontiac sold 41000 over a three year period. The new GTO was only ever intended for a three year limited run because the Monaro was already slated for a chassis change in 2007. The biggest problem the new GTO had, was GM dropped the ball marketing it. Had they gotten fully behind it from top brass to dealer support, I have no doubt that Pontiac would have sold every one of the 18000/yr they had originally planned.

  • As far as them sitting on dealer lots for two years, I think you need a reality check. Pontiac sold every one they got in the 2004/2005 model years. There are currently less than 3000 country wide left in inventory. Right now is your best chance to buy the hottest performance car for the money. GM is discounting the remaining inverntory and the 2006 models are going out the door for bargain prices. The GTO was not a failure, GM was.
