UPDATE: the new 'the witcher 2 vers.2.0' has been released and is better optimized to run on pc. The game runs smoothly on my m11x r1, which is auto-set to low spec.
Well, I saw tweaks in .ini file with low settings so if the game supports SSE processors then I would probably run it. I don't know how to figure it out if it does.
@brebrus1 since you probably cant update your cpu at all i'd highly reccomend upgrading your GPU.
You can get a much better video card for cheap now if you've got a PciE slot. If youre still using AGP go buy yourself a 4670 HIS iceQ. Its the best video card the AGP slot will ever have as they're not making them anymore. If that doesnt push it into runable speeds then you're kinda stuck.
Check into trying to find higher clock speed cpu's that support your socket for cheap also.
I have the latest patch 1.3 I think; unfortunately, I'm still having trouble running this game on my MX11. The framerate is horrible. I hope they can resolve this soon.
Patch 1.1 made a minor difference to my frame rate.....1,2 adds nothing aprt from unlocking all downloadable content for me....i mean all of it.........
Also noticed that a lot of the graphical effects do very little to effect frame rate.....try out several combinations but stay away from Ubersampling......grinds anything but the top end rigs to a halt!!
This game is badly optimized even for mid ranged graphic cards. But I read somewhere they'll be working on it for the fix hmm... I really want to play this game so bad. I had a mid ranged specs (cpu and gpu). :)
@UgSagGiga Yes this was before the patch. A guy has posted that he got worse framerate from the patch.
I know that my alienware doesnt work with any nvidia drives except the one it came with. If you update you loose the ablitiy to go over 1024x768. So if the update is using anything off the new drivers I cant take advantage of it.
no offense with my last comment btw I own an alienware m11x R2 I'm just wondering how it will run because I am skeptical of buying it sine there's no gameplay with fraps running u know?
@D4gI3 I mean all of what im doing it "gameplay" you just mean fighting :P
Your r2 will have to run better cause you're on a i5 or i7. Ionno how the OC works on the r2 model but, on the r1 the unit is useless if you dont turn on over clocking. I'd assume the r2 is the same. The reason they underclock it by default is to they can get those unrealistic battery life times they promise.
I ordered my M11x R1 abit ago and I'm just wondering, is Witcher 2 worth getting for it? Because I'm not bothered about ultra high setting with ultra high fps; so is it fun enough to play?
@Protecter117 What you're seeing is what you'll get. You'll obviously get a little better frame rate since you wont be recording. You're gonna average around 22 to 27 fps. I think thats playable. I'd say 70% of the game is playable. If you really wanna get a smoother frame rate turn on texture down sampling. It makes the game look noticably worse but it gives such huge performance gains. Some areas are truly horrible but none of them are very long. I think its worth owning but pick part 1 first.
@Piecakesman The newer ones are technically better because you can get and i5 or i7 cpu which is gonna net you much better performance. This is an r1 only running the core 2 duo at 1.7ghz. and 8GB of slow 800mhz ram. So if you get a newer one you're gonna get a lot better frame rate. The old ones however only cost $600 the new ones start at $1000 and will more than likely cost you $1400 once you've configured it to be awesome.
@Piecakesman I cant give a real average. Anytime you're just walking around cities it hits around 27 constant. However with huge enemies like t he dragon at the begining of the game it dropped to 19. Its defanitly playable most of the time but some areas do suck and you cant wait to get past them. In the prison at the very begining was getting over 30fps.
Hey I just got the 1.1 patch and it actually seems to make the game run worse :( the framerate feels lower and there definitely seems to be some sort of input lag tat i can feel when moving the mouse/walking around
@Mcoolkid1337 Thanks for that heads up i'll be sure not up update mine. You could try uninstalling and re installing the game while keeping you save data. That will roll you back.
I get slightly better performance with my M15x but It still chugs pretty bad at times on low settings. It's still an enjoyable game despite the technical problems
@Mcoolkid1337 Really? When Im not recording its much more enjoyable. Did you look at the custom settings I mentioned. They're very playable with those settings.

@kroncw Fantastic. I added SSD to this pc and the loading times we're vastly cut. Now I assume with that update the games just completely perfect.

@kroncw can you post a vid with the newer version?
Mcoolkid1337 2 months ago
@Mcoolkid1337 I can't actually. I'm in the army and the only internet I have is my phone.

@Mcoolkid1337 ive been kinda busy plus i dun hav a recording program so its unlikely but ill do it whenever possible

I have an hp touchsmart -.- its an all in one computer. Is there a way I can install a graphics card??
Metallicaguy91 3 months ago
@Metallicaguy91 Just assume if you didnt spend $3000+ on your laptop you video card isnt upgradable.

What is your processor ?
Could I play it on Athlon xp (SSE) 3 Ghz
brebrus1 3 months ago
@brebrus1 Don't think so. The XP is still single core right?
Clesarie 3 months ago
@Clesarie Yes, single core, but if could play it on low I would be happy.
I play Mass effect 2, on this but sys req says you need dual core.
I know W2 has different engine, but how is optimized?
brebrus1 3 months ago
@brebrus1 The witcher engine is poorly optimised actually because they just exscepted everyone to be running ungodly pc.
I normally don't condone this but, I would pirate the game. See if it runs. If it runs then you should buy it.
I simply dont think the cpu is mustering enough power though.
Of course your video card matters a lot too. What card do you have?
Clesarie 3 months ago
@Clesarie I have HD 3650 (512 MB) and 1 gb RAM.
Well, I saw tweaks in .ini file with low settings so if the game supports SSE processors then I would probably run it. I don't know how to figure it out if it does.
I would like to purchase it through GOG.com.

R1 or R2 with throttlestop/gamebooster or nothing?

@D4gI3 Already mentioned that stuff. R1 at 1.7ghz nothing else.

is this on fraps, or is it just naturally laggy before the patch
MegamaXX500 8 months ago
@MegamaXX500 This is one fraps and is its also kinda laggy. I've not played the game with the updated patch.

This was before Patch 1.1 right? if it was, is it any different now? Their site promised a 30% increase in frame rates
