Nice video and i know its a 2009... But It's not all about the usb seeing the network... I can develop or make an antenna for other brands to see the same networks... the problem is connecting to them... I have a gsky and going to finally test out the alpha for the actual connection to the same network... I wonder how strong the connection will be or if it will be the same... I can sometimes connect with the gsky and not a very good connection even tho i have all bars...
@curemymind thanks for your comments. If you use a high gain antenna with a low power Wi-Fi receiver vs. a high powered receiver with a low gain antenna, the second scenario will generally work a lot better for most people. The receive sensitivity of the adapter, along with firmware tuning and output power have a lot to do with range and performance. If you make a better antenna, that antenna should result in a good increase for either adapter.
Can you please explain what the differences between the N3 and the AWUS051NH are. I know that N3 is slightly better then the AWUS036NH but how does it compare to the AWUS051NH?
@merajasari the primary difference between the AWUS036NH and the AWUS051NH are band compatibility and speed. The AWUS036NH offers better 802.11g range, but the AWUS051NH is a 300 mbps product. It is also dual band 2.4 GHz/5 GHz. This will not offer any benefit with 2.4 GHz 802.11n or 802.11g routers, but if you have a dual band router the AWUS051NH model offers fast throughput speeds on the 5 GHz band.
I been meaning to by a Alfa adapter because the NETGEAR Im getting around here is very weak especially during the day. I mainly us the internet to do my job hunting and check my email. It Sucks when I have to wait til its night time to do my job hunting so I can get better signal. I also been thinking about upload backtrack to system and hack into my neighbors WPA/WEP security code cause there signals are really strong. WHAT YOU GUYS THINK??
@sheikhan13 Please try Realtek's web site or contact the manufacturer or retailer directly for individual support. Please try to keep comments about the video itself. Thanks!
@GDelva2003 There is not an ethernet version at this time (such as the TiVo 802.11n adapter, which is basically an 802.11n ethernet bridge). Currently a USB port and a compatible operating system for either adapter is required.
@control725 802.11n products will always have different chipsets than 802.11g. The chip is what determines the standard. There are a number of different G chipsets, as well as a number of different N chips. Other factors play in as well, such as output power, and receive sensitivity to the different standards.
The 1000mw max output has 500mw more max output than the 500mw unit. Other than that they are the same. Most users will see little to no difference. The 1000mw is the only one being made by Alfa now, the 500mw version has been discontinued.
The RTL8187L chip is an 802.11g chip, so any adapters that use it would not support 802.11n. We picked the RTL8187L for our Rok500 802.11g 500mW adapter, but since the n3 is an 802.11n compatible adapter we had to pick a different chip. The n3 uses a chip from Ralink and has customized firmware.
The RTL8187L is only an 802.11g chipset (not 802.11n) but is very good for Linux. The n3 is plug and play in Ubuntu 9.04, but the Realtek G chipset currently has better Linux support (we are working on that though!)
Aircrack is for pentesting networks that need pentesting with the permission from the networks owner and it's not for little boys that think it would be cool to tell the kids at school "Ohhh look what I can do, how cool am I".
If you watch the video you will see closeup shots as well. The far shots are to show the adapters connected to the computer. The "mysterious utility", to quote your comment, is Wireless Monitor, as mentioned and shown in the video. Wireless Monitor is a pretty popular program for scanning. Regarding your claim, we are always forthright in our testing, when our own Rok500 802.11g did not do quite as well as the Alfa 500mw in our tests, we showed that in head to head testing too.

Does n3 use Realtek RTL8187L chipset just like Alfa AWUS036H?

Stick to the Alfa & RTL8187L, if your going to use Linux the Alfa & RTL8187L pretty much reigns supreme.

Show us a comparison using a higher gain antenna. 9dBi or something.
