Hi, sounds tight and aggressive, the perfect sound for my opinion. i have one question: what's the brand of the TSM103? i can't find anything on the web about this mic. thanks and keep creating great amps!
oh my god...there are too many amps and names out there....as i have to buy one i don t know anymore how to choose......any ideas?!?!?!? i love the mesa boogie...please tell me the one i can afford and the most versatile....anser me guyssss
Basically you add two or three Screamers before a Solo 100 Head. But with my factory pickups I'm not totally happy with the sound, I ordered a Lundgren bridge pickup, should be getting it soon.
I think my comment was stupid back then because ive since realized the podfarm produces dumb high register sounds. With every mic model and cab. But I did get a decent djenty tone with two branch tone (I mean the A and B sides), A has noise gate+equ with lots of bass+mids+two screamers+treadplate dual+4+12treadplate with 57 on axis, B is similar but has one screamer, amp is solo 100 head, cab is 4x12 Line6 with 421 dynamic. Might not sound good with all guitars idk
The best option imo is to get impulse responses for an impulse response VST cab (you can find free ones) for your music production software. Record a track with clean undistorted sound and load the vst, import some impulse response files (if you don't know what they are, google) and start tweaking.
Hard to tell how these and other amps truly sound off of YouTube. In person I bet it's Godly. The recording is taking alot of the chug away and adding mids. Unless one spends alot on recording equipment I notice this....however I'm still digging this tone. Reminds me of my Engl Fireball 100. Wish there was a place to try out one around here.
@iccarroll Ya I kind of agree. Although the post tweaking sound was much louder and had a few effects on, the guitar lost a bit of tone in a way. The chords sounded better before tweaking, they just need to turn it up.
It sounds too tinny and sharp. Of course hearing it in person is the final judge but from the video, the attack and punch is obviously great but it really lacks soul.
@MoveoImago I think this tone could not be any better for an 8-string. Remember, that was only the GUITAR track you are hearing, when the bass backs up the 2 guitars, it does not lack anything anymore. Its all in the overall EQ of the different instruments of the band, not in the EQ of a single instrument. Especially in extremely low tunings like the ones Meshuggah uses. Standard F#, Drop E...
@DruidxSephiroth They cost not too much, but very hard to find. Tubes are the same that used in Russian jet MIG 25. Why we use tubes in jets ? Because of the wide working temperature range. Tube does not afraid of overloading. Digital processors and chips that are used in jets of other countries is not reliable in extreme situations when jet is flying on max boost speed with incredible overload.
@Creature1009 sounds like the mids are boosted if anything imo; not so much standard mids as it is low mids (700-800hz) and high mids (~1.5khz) however
This amp sounds seriously awesome, and looks even better. WANT!!
but seriously, this guy's constant open chugging makes me want to bash my face off a wall. Could he not throw in something other than the odd power chord, or god forbid, a sycopated note??
@PaintingPerception What I don't get is the cardioid and omni directional mics placed directly next to the mesh of the marshal. Why two mics? Why so damn close?
@UrbanCrunkMovement Pretty sure they're both cardioid. Two mics so he can get more variety with his sound, so close because they would want a tight sound with little room sound, proximity effect could add to his low end.
@daqtip Thanks for the response, I have never seen this technique. You're right they're both cardioid, I think I meant to say condenser and omni directional. I do believe the mic on the right is a Shure SM57. The one on the left looks expensive, could putting it that close harm the diaphragm?
@UrbanCrunkMovement Yes it's an SM57, the other looks like it was based off a TLM 103 which can handle these volumes no problem. Ribbon mics are the ones you have to be careful with.
Two mics in two different spots pick up different frequencies from the driver at diffrerent rates and volume. When 2 or more are in phase it makes the recorded sound more like the sound you would hear right infront of it. Also, it can be used as a physical eq for shaping your tone and attenuation. Finally, so close is pretty self explanitary, but since you asked, the waveforms of each sound decay at different rates which can lead to a hollow tin can sound from too far away.
I'm usually more into older school amps (my favorite is my trusty green stripe boogie Mark III) but holy shit does this sound ever so good! How does the FBM compare to this? I'm especially interested in dynamics and note seperation.
Sounds cool. Looks cool but, with this level of tightness it's starting to get a bit of an SS tonality to me. That's not saying ait's bad though some may think so. In reallity that ultra tight transient reponse and tracking is what SS has to offer in the heavy worl and why a lot of low tuned heavy players don't use tube anymore and why bass rigs are mostly SS now.
@daramps I read the manual doing a Google search. A J-FET is the first gain device then you have a 12AU7 which is a very low gain tube and a 12AX7 .The manual reads like each tube is for different tones instead of having all the triodes cascade like in a typical amp.Not to mention what do you do for a phase inverter?
99% of high gain tube amps use 3- 12AX7's 2 for 4 stages of gain(full potential) and 1 for the phase inverter (class A/B typically)
I would like to hear some heavy-ass doom coming from one of these amps. The chugging only lets you know so much about how the amp sounds. Sweet shit either way. Those power tubes look badass
@crappycannibal - try not to be so Internet. You'll be the one that freaks out when it comes to eating people. But hey, that means there is more for me.
@fluff191 In talking to Mike, I think the marshall has stock speakers. I know that's what they use to test their amps on, but this one in the video I think is property of FAL..so no clue.
Amp looks great, but why is he playing such crap? All that low-string chugging doesn't really show off an amp - what about some good riffs? Some good soaring lead work? Some tasty blues? Even some nice clean stuff? Or is the amp only designed for heavy metal head bangers?
@OriginalNightStalker I'm sure this amp could do all that. In fact go to DARAMPS channel and check out Aaron own some tones. He makes this amp really come alive. But as for the "only designed for heavy metal head bangers" part, the amp will be called Future Breed Machine..it's Fredrik's custom amp. You know..Meshuggah. So, yeah, there will be a lot of heavy metal coming out of it.
@ChimpFromSpace $3,695 for the head. at least that's what tone merchants' site is saying. I'm debating on what car to steal and sell to get this thing. lol.
