  • THE MASTER, . 1 OF THE 20 TH. GENIOUS.... AND 1 OF THE ONE&ONLY... Love 4 All of US, as Prince Says.. Juanjo. frm Canary Islands......

  • A phrase often said to the batsman of bat and ball sports such as cricket and baseball reads: "play the ball, not the bowler/pitcher". To deem Miles' playing in this video as outstanding is, surely, to commit a similar offence. Yes, Miles is one of the greatest musicians of the 20th century; no, this is not a great performance by a master musician. His staccato phrasing does not lend itself to the style of the song, and his tone lacks sign of character. The band, however, one cannot fault.

  • @chwjts +1

  • @chwjts You're right! Disappointing!

  • Can any one tell me in what year was it?

  • beyooooond stunning!

  • catch me next time

  • A gracious bow...

  • Miles is still the king, but it's a pity those fusion guys always had to use these corny synthesizers

  • @Grafschnitzel In fairness Miles is actually playing the synth... Each to their own, but in this context I really like the synth sounds.

  • BRUTAL!

  • Miles is always sexy.....

  • Hey I was there..Montreaux...

  • Omg is that KENNY G ?!

  • @kamykazzzz kenny garret not kenny g....a big difference

  • So privileged to have seen Miles! What a blessing! There are blessings in life!

  • @bragaivo

    well said. well said.

  • マイルスを超えた音楽家はまだ一人も存在しない。そして未来永遠に現れることはないだろう。人間と音楽の全てがここにある。

  • He is a Genius.Period.

  • That guitar play Foley looks like a old man there, all under Miles trying to smell all up on him...

  • Miles is the best..............

  • @DjDavidSMentalist A normal brain is ready with 25 years, and you stuck with that music for the rest of your live.

Miles started with bebop and ended with urban/rap, always progressive and surounded by the best young jazz players from that time. Not only is he the master of minimalism, playing the essence of a song with as less as possible notes, but also he was always fresh and new. Never looking back, always going forward.....

    Miles is the best.............

  • From Song Facts:

"Human Nature" was originally written by Steve Porcaro, keyboardist with the rock band Toto. "I had written the song for my daughter Heather. I wrote the song while we were mixing "Africa" and was just tinkering on the piano and wrote 'Human Nature. had written the lyrics, which were the same verse I was singing over and over again. I had the 'why, why' chorus with the slap echo. Like most of my songs it was an unfinished song."

  • There is just something amazing about this song. Whether it be Miles' quiet intensity throughout the head, or the all out joy and excitement of the saxophone, there is a glorious triumph, a celebration of Miles' career. It's like the song shouldn't fit, with the smooth jazz Hobby Lobby rhythm section instrumentation, and the Michael Jackson song, but it is translated into jazz wonderfully. This is fucking beautiful.

  • Miles Davis does a classical song that i hear on a radio station. Does any one know which one it is?

  • The piece of sax on this is incredible

  • @bragaivo I've read what you said a few times now and still have no idea of what you are saying. Did you by any chance use an online translator? ;-)

  • @buddadude99 either that or just really excited

  • @bragaivo What the hell are you talking about????

  • Un humilde reconocimiento desde la Isla de Margarita en Venezuela a esos dos gigantes de la musica. (Q.E.P.D) Que Vivan Michael y Miles!!!!

  • this is to those real music player listen to be in tune with each other even if you don't like it ,something to think about just a little food for your head .

  • Ordinary???? The band is Miles and Miles is the band, he is the master conductor and the way he conversates with each instrumentalist allows everyone to shine, Miles is no longer just a trumpettist fellas, this is perfection, timing, melodies, so please, be respectful and don't call Miles ordinary and I am blessed I was able to see him LIVE in 1990 - cos after that...no one else came ever close...EXTRA-ORDINARY

  • Like any great artist Miles was never satisfied with the achievements of the past and was always breaking new barriers. He also played the music of others he admired...Michael Jackson and Prince to name 2. I love his older stuff of course but also enjoyed his later music. I don't try to compare it to the anything he did previously.

  • @DiasporaNow Cicely Tyson suggested to him to record Human Nature. He said no and changed his mind.

  • Thanks Rasclot222 for your support.thanks:-))))

  • Lol,i can't prevent from laughing at 3:53.

    Anyway,this is awesome.

  • I just love this version of my faourite song of mj....I am a big fan of michael...and I just think tha miles davis in this performance he just wanted to show his love an respect for mj..thats all,it was great thought of him..

  • he will always be the greatest man on a trumpet to me . My father and I would listen to him in harmony and joy. Now he is gone and I listen to Miles Davis alone and I miss my Dad but the music has not changed its magic to me . Its tone and magic will always be there in the silence of those moments I share with none but he is the one I listen to with joy in my heart. Always with joy.

  • I love tha sax solo. Keeny knew just the right notes to play.

  • Gentle men you are not the best person to judge it.You don't know something about the trumpet and about Jazz in general.

How can you judge an artist after one song?Even this saxo guy could have been worst if he were the main artist. What a pity for you as experts!!!!!!

Miles is the best.God bless him for the best moments he gave any of us .THANKS MILES

  • @velomothor When it comes to Miles there is no bad day on the trumpet. He is the best to play it. If he was a live now he would still sound beautiful. I love your comment btw. :-)

  • I think THIS is the best solo ever from Kenny Garrett on Human Nature with Miles. Listen to the start of his solo (the musical path is defined by Miles, unfortunately this part is cut?...), discover how Kenny can build step by step an incredible story and enjoy the way Ricky (drums) and Adam (synth) are supporting him reaching the clouds!...Simply perfect....

  • That saxophone solo is so amazing. I can't believe it. The best solo i have heard in so long.

  • sorry KLSAX, but this is the only song, Davis showed a little of is positiv thinking about life and it is great !!!!!!!! Perhaps it isn`t not seriously for you, but i think it`s life !

  • Foley !!!

  • Miles plays this simple because he likes the melody as it is. No reason to f*ck something up when it is good. Miles knew that.

  • Miles may be playing simply stated ideas, but there's so much clarity to everything. Cats who've been playing for decades have nothing to prove. You reach a point in which chops can get in the way of saying what you really want to say.

  • MIles Davis was also a great composer. Shut up if you don't know the whole story!

  • who cares. are genius's never allowed to be ordinary. how arrogant of u to think u have the right to critize genius in the first place!!!!?????

  • I think so truly magical !!!

  • i´m not a hater...only because of his status nobody can criticise him?i admire miles for most of his work. his music always had a lot of taste.

but as buddadude said its more the band. imagine him with a crappy rythm-section. of course the band is killing but i simply dont like the keyboard-sounds and all that.

and of course i´m comparing his different musical periods cause i wanna know what i like and what i dont.

  • la meilleure

  • KLSAX, dude miles davis hustles man. who do you think arranged this song for the band. He plotted this whole interpretation out, thats why his name is on the bill.

  • Well Miles went from choosing notes to choosing musicians and at this stage his musician choices were awesome... Kenny Garret rules all!!!!!!!!!!!

  • those m play music with iq

  • Hey KLSAX maybe comparing miles through his different musical incarnations is not the best thing to do. In my opinion it would be easier to compare if he were playing "My Funny Valentine" and then again he"s still going to play what he plays. Maybe a little slower or a little faster or not as clean or as dark or bright. But his essence will allways be MILES, DIG!

  • damn. kenny garrett kills this. he's a monster

  • but what does miles do at 02:00??? he falls on the guitar player!?!?!?!?

  • Fuck all you haters. Miles is Miles man. The shit you are talking is like saying Hank Aaron wasnt that good when he was 45. He was fucking Hammering Hank for Christ sakes! Show some respect.

  • anyone knows who is the bass player and the percussionist?

  • who plays the bass in this song??

    and who is the percussionist?

  • In my opinion this is an wonderful example of his tone, phrasing and melody ability.

He's not that easy to get, his tone is very subtle and his secret are fine nuances. When listening to him I find myself often focussing to much on his "über" bandmates (especially the sax players) who were always the créme de la créme. But Miles is no flashing virtuoso(don't get me wrong, I adore Coltrane), he's the silent master of subtlety and I think he's doing really good in this video.

  • KENNY GARRAETT MY FAVORITE ALTO!!!!

  • 4:51 start funky time

  • Kenny Garrett's solo is amazing on this version

  • La progression du solo de sax est énorme !

  • can anyone make sense of the interview at the start? What the fuck is the guy's question LOL?

  • @IChinaManI

    hahahaha!!! true that....

  • I need mouth to mouth resuscitation right about now. Can you see Michael smiling! OMG, the places this version takes you. God Bless you Mr Miles Davis, as Michael would say.

  • big fan of this music -- sometimes I wonder what musical influences of the 90's and 2000's Miles would have incorporated into his music had he been alive -- I'm thinking definitely hip-hop, but I think he would have liked bands like Nirvana; as for today maybe daft punk, radiohead -- any thoughts?

  • I don't see what Miles would get out of the music or whatever it is that is out now. I really don't see the relation in regards to your thoughts on the subject. Then again, I wouldn't know. I've heard this type of question before in regards to Hendrix as well.

  • Well Miles was experimenting with rap, on the very last recordings he worked on, so who knows. My guess would have been rnb and rap/hip hop, considering thats where african-american music went. Perhaps some stuff with electronica elements too, also acid-jazz.

  • catch ya next time

  • Miles set the pre-cursor to hip-hop back in 1972 with "On The Corner". Had Miles hooked up with a good hip-hop producer like Q-Tip or DJ Premiere for 'Doo Bop'...

  • @jakjonsun, Miles never really liked White Rock. During the end of the 70's he was not interested by Punk nor Post Punk. I don't see why he would have contributed to post-post rock (Radiohead). Daft Punk is good but they mostly sample black music. Maybe he would have tried playing with Dan "The Automator", Dr Octogon, Dj Shadow or better Juan Atkins...Detroit Techno, the only black music Miles never touched!

  • @kim1971 Miles definitely did like some "White Rock" -- The Doors, Van Halen, U2. As for Radiohead, I think Miles would really dig a lot of harmonies/chord structure as well as their use of electronics/synths. Daft Punk -- because he was already was trending to DJ style music, and they are perhaps the most musical from that genre. As for the other DJs, I can say that we probably agree on at least the general direction he would do, if not the specific influences.

  • @jakjonsun, please tell me where you read Miles liked the Doors, Van Halen or U2? What is know via biographies is that he was playing with Prince in the 80's not especially with any white rock band...

  • @kim1971 it's in his autobiograpy -- you should read it

  • Miles coulda made Abba sound good

  • Fantastically good. Pity the soundtrack is suffering a bit... all hail Miles

  • OH MY GOSHHHHHHH!!!!!!! This has given me chills!! As a huge Miles and Michael fan I CANNOT BELIEVE I haven't come across this before!!! Thank you for sharing this absolute treasure. PRICELESS in every way!

  • The lady drummer is the danish percussionist Marilyn Mazur. Bassplayer is Benny Rietveld.

  • @101bbh:

Mazur is Polish/German name - they used to say she's Polish when band played on Jazz Jamboree festival in Poland in 1988... :) that was my first real jazz shot & shock :)

  • tsssssssssss!!!

  • Who is that lady drummer?

  • who's on bass??

  • that chick has a nice ass =]

  • I saw him one time and it was great, but the whole concert he stood with his back to the audience..you could not see his face for an hour..so I listen to it at home =)

  • hell yes kenny garrett

  • It's amazing. I love both versions - MJ's and MD's.

  • wOOooooOOw foley is so grooOOoovy!

  • I LIVE IN MONTREUX \o/

  • I saw Miles live three times in the mid to late 80s in southern california (Hollywood Bowl, the Pantages, the Coach House in San Juan Capistrano) and he was absolutely amazing every time. Each time he played Human Nature the crowd would be absolutely mesmerized by the beauty of his sound and lyrical sense. Miles was THE master of melody, chromaticism, and beautiful sound on his instrument. I love his music (ALL of it from the 50s to the end) and will miss him and MJ too.

  • @jazzgeek64 ..what about charlie parker in phrasing>?? the master???

  • Michael Jackson´s interpretation of the song is classic, unforgetable. And Miles version is sublime. RIP MJ and MD! And thanks John Bettis and Steve Porcaro for this pearl.

  • I'm very glad to be one of the 50459 people to see this vid! I love it.

  • R.I.P Miles Davis and Michael Jackson

  • I love that he mixes Milestones in there. haha. This is amazing. Human Nature was always one of my favorite Michael Jackson songs. Ahh...how I'll miss Michael.

  • I would have loved to hear Michaels vocals over this

  • Kenny Garrett is amazing and I agree that his solo on Live Around the World was better.

  • Der mann hat nicht geübt das hört doch jeder oder wollt ihr mich verarschen. Zuviel Drogen Man .

  • The song is actually written by Steve Porcaro and John Bettis

  • amazing!

  • I luckily saw this live at UCSD... right before his book came out. Incredible.

  • nice...............

  • Miles Davis ! The man ! Rebel and American musical treasure !

  • Well, Michael and Miles are genious, both brilliant, both may recognize each other in the sky. GOD BLESS MILES AND MICHAEL! RIP!

  • michael is incredible but MILES DAVIS!

    wow! he is magical

    RIP BOTH OF YOU <33

  • i think that miles´ later work is overrated and that as a trumpeter he was better in the beginning...can´t see the genius in this video...sorry

  • I totally agree!! The genius is in the band and Kenny Garrett on sax. Miles is ordinary at best. Is there anyone here saying that Miles is good in this clip?

  • He make himselve, about 50% notes combinations ,which You hear everyday music today.I guess You are not know enough to abble to judge that subject ,SORRY?

  • @buddadude99 I agree He hit it better in Sir Jazz's version. Garrett steals the show in this one...maybe Miles was allowing that to happen...

  • @buddadude99 I would say that he is fantastic in this video. If you don't uderstand late miles, you shouldn't listen to him. It is very simple just stop listening.

  • @Sanchellios I agree Miles sound is magical.

  • @buddadude99 There is a lot of genius in this. Listen to how he was able to change styles and always be Miles. He moved ahead while looking back but he kept moving forwards and thats his genius. Listen to that crisp trumpet with every note full of emotion and the amazing spaces in between, he never stopped being a genius he just re-invented himself time and time again. Look what a band he assembled, all credit should go to him

  • @KLSAX Which "beggining" would that be? the 1940's 50's 60's, 70's 80's or 90's?

Miles was the master at reinventing himself and inventing music.

  • @ KLSAX Nicht Unbedingt sterben Zeiten change Sich, und DAMIT IST Miles Davis mitgegangen.

Nicht Wie Rolling Stones (von Anfang bis heute ein Immer Das same!

  • Comment removed

  • @KLSAX @buddadude99 - Kenny may be the preachin but Miles was the architect that built the church...the genius is in the phrasing, how he sets the atmosphere, the song choice, the spaces, the strength of the song structure, the soulfulness 2 his playing and sound.

i like miles in the 50s, 60s and 70s more but i prefer the 80s to the 40s.+ what were a lot of other folks, even 20 years younger, doing in the 80s that i still am checking out? that broke new musical ground? jaco, wynton come to mind

  • @KLSAX well the good thing about miles is he kept that talent to the very end

  • @KLSAX I disagree

  • my bad '88 not '86

  • amazing!

  • to miles and micheal jackson

  • rip

  • 1986

  • The credits say 1988

  • 1988 for sure. I was there...

  • @DoctorSparks wow. i envy you so much. i would give my life and my bass guitar to see this concert. That solo Kenny Garrett smacks down is simply amazing. I hate that i was born in 1993!
