I don't know if you made a typo or what but removing the A/R pawl has ZERO effect on casting distance! I do it to all my Curados too, but the purpose is to make the retrieve effort lighter due to the reduced friction. Think about what you are doing. The pawl is totally disengaged from movement during a cast. Also, if you use a real screwdriver, I guarantee it will speed up the removal and installation of those screws by 1000%.
