Hello Dan's dad, i'm wishing you could show this message to your son. I just wan't to thanks him and the rest of BTBAM for making such incredible music. I play the bass guitar, and i love the bass lines he plays on their songs. Dan inspired me to practice and never surrender. I just hope to see BTBAM live at least once time in my life if they come to my country. I would be grateful if Dan could read this message. Greetings from Argentina! @dglthomas I'll be honest I'm not exactly sure where, but I'm pretty sure he uses his thumb. Anyways just keep practicing everyday and eventually you will get it. really there is not much more advice than that, that can be given. By the way, i don't play bass, but i do guitar, so I know what its like trying to learn a difficult technique.
Hey everyone....cool piece of news I got from Dan today. He met Steven Wilson in a record store in Bristol! Wow...seriously, this solo is as good as the selkies one. The way dan plays is so musical, and yet he can still shred it up. It just all makes perfect sense. He's capable of beauty.
Dan is one of those bass players that make everything look deceptively easy. It's just so fluid that it goes over your head until you actually sit down and think about it.
This song is so relaxing and awesome, you don't get alot of music these days with all this pop and shit. I enjoy metal alot, but its great to know that BTBAM has a more diverse taste than just metal. Metals really good and all, but this kind of music is much more deep and rich in emotion. Anyway, amazing song.

@prad131313 Old American Made Spector. Not sure of exact model since it's never specified. I play Spectors, and they're all pretty much amazing (aside from the performers, but they're good for entry level.)
Man Dan must've found the holy grail or something because I've never heard anyone make a bass guitar sound so beautiful and pure. I honestly think the song "mirrors" is his best work, which says a lot considering what he's done. He almost puts the rest of the band to shame lmao.
@pmlag Oh most definately, I personally am a drummer more than anything and blake is one of my all time favorites, but I think Dan is the best at his instrument in the group. BTBAM wouldn't be the same without any of them though regardless of my opinion though.
I just read about Dan in the Holiday 2010 issue of Bass Player Magazine and I figured I'd check him out. Here's all I can say, he should be on the cover! This band and Dan are A-mazing! And it's so cool to see that his dad provides such great support.

can someone help me and tell me how the hell he does the two last harmonic chords at the end at 2:23. i seriously don't know how he manages to pull those.
@killukiillu look up "natural harmonics". that should give you an idea. i could try to explain it, but i'm not a very good "explaining things" teacher. if you were here in front of me i could show you in 2 seconds though. there are harmonic spots at the 5th, 7th, 12th and 19th frets as well as at or near the pickups. the harmonics around the pickups might take a little time to find.
Hey all...I just got e-mail from Dan over in Brussels, Belgium. The band are touring Europe right now, and he told me in April they will be touring with Mastodon!! Hope that sets some of you into a frenzy....Mastodon' a decent band!! He sent me a nice shot from their show in Chicago at House of Blues, and a photo of Jim Morrison's grave site in Paris. He knows I'm a diehard Doors fan from my teen days!
Ill be seeing them on that tour! im stoked! i saw them in thunder bay, canada last summer and had the pleasure of meeting blake and tommy. cant wait to see them play again!!!!
@jarhead4214 Actually, Dan plays lead guitar with Orbs. That was part of his reason to create the band with Ashley and Adam. It gives him room to do what he could not with BTBAM. A little trivia for all you fans: Dan was first asked to meet the band in Cleveland back in 2004 to join the band as rhythm guitarist, but Dusty had been invited to join, as he had been touring with the band and they were very happy with him. They asked him to join when they heard his bass playing on a homemade CD.
@Steve128967 Haha no problem. But as far as I know and everybody in the Spector club on talkbass.com knows the NS-2000 was a korean model. It must be custom or very rare. There's no doubt that's no korean bass he has.
@HappyDictator It's actually an NS2000/5, I have been informed from some guys who work at Spector. These are older models and are now the Legend Customs. Much like the NS5CRFM -> Euro5 similarities

@killukiillu look up "natural harmonics". that should give you an idea. i could try to explain it, but i'm not a very good "explaining things" teacher. if you were here in front of me i could show you in 2 seconds though. there are harmonic spots at the 5th, 7th, 12th and 19th frets as well as at or near the pickups. the harmonics around the pickups might take a little time to find.

Hey all...I just got e-mail from Dan over in Brussels, Belgium. The band are touring Europe right now, and he told me in April they will be touring with Mastodon!! Hope that sets some of you into a frenzy....Mastodon' a decent band!! He sent me a nice shot from their show in Chicago at House of Blues, and a photo of Jim Morrison's grave site in Paris. He knows I'm a diehard Doors fan from my teen days!

@HappyDictator I think it's a USA NS5. He uses a different bass for his band Orbs, but probably the same with different finish.

@jarhead4214 Actually, Dan plays lead guitar with Orbs. That was part of his reason to create the band with Ashley and Adam. It gives him room to do what he could not with BTBAM. A little trivia for all you fans: Dan was first asked to meet the band in Cleveland back in 2004 to join the band as rhythm guitarist, but Dusty had been invited to join, as he had been touring with the band and they were very happy with him. They asked him to join when they heard his bass playing on a homemade CD.

@Steve128967 Haha no problem. But as far as I know and everybody in the Spector club on talkbass.com knows the NS-2000 was a korean model. It must be custom or very rare. There's no doubt that's no korean bass he has.

@HappyDictator It's actually an NS2000/5, I have been informed from some guys who work at Spector. These are older models and are now the Legend Customs. Much like the NS5CRFM -> Euro5 similarities
