  • when the engine cuts out it sund like a bee

  • it is auto-gyro not helicopter dude

  • Nice auto dude

  • flying blender he got his revolutions

  • Damn... looks almost like the spinning helped him to not get totally destroyed

  • Did the presenter actually say "oh" when it hit? How goofy.

  • Fail.

  • Was the pommy bastard hurt?

  • When he crashes you can hear the pilot go UMPH

  • And what did his Docter say well look on the bright side you could have been higher.

Lucky you were close to the ground when it happend,..

  • haha en sån vill jag ha (:

  • I have seen this thing flying over Epsom Downs in Surrey. It was years ago and the guy that made it was taking it to an air show. I think the one following was flown by his daughter. But, I never knew the thing had crashed at some point in time till now.

  • those thingsare so dam dangerous, more peole have been killed on those.

  • @Allanlegacy43 Sorry I don’t agree mate. There is a very small number of these things flying and they have a comparatively small kill percentage on the crash history. They tend to be close to the ground and are mostly piloted by people with a large number of flying hours in lots of types. Also they go quite slowly and don’t seem to often have catastrophic outs that turn them in to flying bricks. You want a high fill craft try micro lights. Now they can be killers in the wrong hands.

  • pilot should have pulled the stick back not pushed forward

  • I'm a fixed-wing pilot, but if I understand correctly, if you shove the nose down to pick up airspeed, like we'd do in a plane, you'll unload the rotor, creating a very un-lovely situation. The most important thing in autorotation is rotor rpms, and keeping the stick back enough to avoid unloading.

  • gyrocopters look like a good way to get chpped to bits

  • Listen carefully at 0:09 , it's the sound of him shitting his pants ! !

  • not a helicopter

  • That is correct - it's an autogyro.

  • I'm glad he's not hurt.

  • RIP !

  • poor training.

  • This is basically...well someone important...i forgot his name, it was like 007 dude or something???

  • GYROCOPTER, or autogyro.. not Helicopter!! Looks like Ken Wallis and 'Little Nellie' of James Bond fame.. .

  • That's Wing Commander Ken Wallis having a crash as he was too close to the ground to do anything else after the previous stunt when the engine had quit. He is the world's most experienced gyro pilot. He walked away. He was doing a stunt display and as they say "shit happens". He is flying a gyrocopter not a helicopter, and yes always in autorotation. SoloPilot6 should keep his comments to himself when he doesn't know what he is on about.

  • That was a bad crackup - was it ever determined what had happened? That was very unusual behavior for an autogyro, and the guy's a designer with almost 20 machines.

  • @bunjit1

What? he crashed the fucking thing - I`d ask for my money back on that lesson

  • @seymourbutt312 And how would he ask for the money mate? He built the thing. Also he never had a single lesson on how to fly it in his life ;-)

  • SAYS: SUDDENLY THE ENGINE CUT OUT,this video its from DAILOSYOUNIS

  • Comment removed

  • thats when auto comes into play :\

  • Yeah... I was wondering about autoration on that thing. I think autogyros are fixed pitch though I'm not sure.

  • Thats where Deadmans curve comes into play.

  • Oh noez,almost had it.

  • yup, like joeeatfood said; it's an autogyro. Always on autorotation = Always CRASHING! RUUN! GET TO THE CHOPPAAH!

    naah, lol sorry.

  • When he got SASSed (Sudden Airborne Silence Syndrome), all he had to do was keep control and land. Instead, he stopped flying to deal with the engine challenge.

  • that's a gyroplane

  • I`m I wrong or maybe he could save his flying machine by flaring a little bit earlier ?If any helicopter pilot see`s this video pls. try to answer me ! 10x !

  • He's in a gyrocopter. His landing was a little fast, and a little steep, the ground might not have been all that clear either. Looks like he bounced.

  • do gyros work as small scale too?

  • this person just proved once again,,,,autorotation does not work. Give me a pair of wings anyday.

  • Whatever duuuuude!!! He wasn't that high up. If you stalled from that height you'd be dead. That guy walked away from that crash unscathed.

  • Unfortunately unlike an aircraft the first 200 ft in a heilicopter you are pretty much gambling with your life. You lose an engine and you are pretty much dead. In an aircraft you can at least glide to and minimize your crash landing speed. i have close to 28,000 incident free hrs in various aircraft. Couldn't imagine that much time in a chopper with no problems.

  • That's an oversimplification. A helicopter pilot should stay outside of what's known as the "deadman's curve" on his height-velocity chart. There is a modified procedure for a "hovering" autorotation, meaning essentially nap-of-the-earth.

  • He's in a gyrocopter. It's always auto-rotating.

  • bullshit

  • It appears that he would be ok. I hope is survived. He did what you are supposed to do by dipping the nose after engin failed and flairing before hitting.

  • nice...

  • That dude is still flying. I would say he's a badass.

  • that guy shoulda lost some wait before flying lol jk

  • Lost some wait? You mean weight? The pilot was 70 years old and has flown well since then.

  • 70 Years? He should go shopping or feed birdy in the park but not flying or driving a car

  • haha

  • That autorotation would of been sweet if he started the flare a bit earlier.

  • This was Ken Wallis himself. He is the inventor of this gyroplane. He is legendary in the United Kingdom. The WA-116 can be seen in the film You Only Live Twice.

  • The guy is an instructor and was doing a demonstration when his engine failed downwind, he ends up demonstrating a low level, downwind emergency landing and walks away unharmed, you notice the nose down attitude as he's trying to gain airspeed.

  • only model heli

  • is a full size gyrocopter. how can that be a model?

  • lilbrudder is right, that's called a gyro-copter. My neighbor had three of them. That was also the poorest attempt at an auto-rotation that i have ever seen. Hope he walked away

  • goes to show you know nothing about autogiros as they are always autorotating all the time as they are totally diferent to a helicoptor where you have 2 second rule to get into a full autorotation were as gyros you dont hehe and seeing as he was unfortunatly flying downwind when his engine stalled then had to make a full emergancy landing

  • Yeah, dude came out virtually unharmed.

  • I think i see this in TV and i think he stand up after this crash.

but im not sure if it was this.

  • oh that was a hart landing

  • Yes, he lived to die another day...

  • that's NOT a helicopter, it's an autogyro. There is a BIG difference. :)

Hope the pilot was OK, that looks like a rough landing.

  • Yeah, dude was virtually unharmed, althought the autogyro was toast.

  • Was that Ken Wallis??

  • the dude live ?

  • yeah, he lived.

  • looks like he attempted to do a auto rotation

  • it's a gyrocopter - it's always in autorotation!!

  • that looked like fun.

  • that is NOT a Helicopter and

    for

WittDieFlut: - dont post sick comments!

  • LMFAO HAHAHAHA

  • nice one point landing

  • Um... autorotation?

  • DAM! i knew i shood have watched the dvd on safe landing!

  • nice vid, i hope he died!

  • no he didn't plus why did you want him to, thats the guy who made james bonds "little nelly" from "you only live twice"

  • Your a sick motherfucker o.0

  • its a gyrocopter you fuckin idiots

  • Where do you see the wings?

  • NOT a helicopter. Gyroplane.

  • Is that a gyroplane or a helicopter?

  • It's a gyro. See the prop behind the pilot? He should have been able to put it down deadstick, because the rotors providing lift are unpowered. I suspect the ground was very uneven where he set down.

  • Little Nellie from the Bond films...

    Autogyro, NOT helicopter!!

Was lucky to escape serious injury...

  • the commentator sounded like martin brundle...

  • There are many copies of this video already on YouTube, we don't need another do we? And it's an *autogyro*, not a helicopter. Duh!

  • That's old footage of Ken Wallis, inventor and pilot of many early gyrocopters, including Little Nellie which he flew in the '67 Bond film "You Only Live Twice".

  • Old video. Older man, he walked away.

  • I'm curious why the video didn't report on the pilot's condition after the crash. I felt left up in the air so to speak.

  • was it windy, i thought you could land it with no power

  • It's called a gyroplane.

  • cool
