  • Are they pushing the throttle all the way till it stops, leaving it there and flying the course with both hands on the stick or are they constantly working the throttle foward and aft? Is it hard on the engines when they fly the course or could these engines work all day at these settings?

  • These L-29s will end the Reno air races. They are starting to get into mach tuck etc and at least one had structural failures at PRS this year. They are flying death traps.

  • Is this the same Curt Brown that flew the Shuttle (and took John Glen back into space) ???

  • Racing aricraft land LEFT of centerline to allow right side to remain open for other aircraft if they are in trouble and need to get down fast. This is a safety precaution all race pilots follow. It is NOT sloppy flying.

  • What does a pilot look at while running the course?

Do they look at their compass, high mountains...?

How do they see the turning points?

  • The course is marked with pylons and markers that the pilots can see during the race. You can see some of these in the video

  • A few more questions for anyone.

Are your eyes generally fixed on the next pylon? Rather than looking at other things.

Can you see the next pylon as you clear the last pylon?

Can you see more than one pylon at a time?

Are the pylons easy to spot or are they hidden amongst the terrain?

Does the course feel natural to fly fast in or is it off centered or unbalanced...?

  • @sanfranciscobay there are pylons around the track, they are probably looking out for other planes and obsticals, as well as the instruments

  • Actually there are more rules that favor such planes as L-29s and 39s, Jet Provosts, Vampires and CASAs.

I was the crew chief on one of these aircraft and am on my way back to Reno tomorrow for the 2009 races.

bijouxbisous - you're a moron. Let me see you even try to land that piece of crap bug smasher you have after you've been exposed to 4 to 6 Gs in a sweltering cockpit. Curt Brown is one of the best pilots flying today. You couldn't even taxi an L29 dumbass!

  • Yes the jet class is unlimited. The plane must be streight wing with no afterburner. How do you know that Curt missed the center line. It could be the view the camera gave you. Just rember if you fly a race on the simm, you don't have 8 orther jets to race against and your not pulling 8 to 10 g's neg and positeve. I know because I saw the G meter. I was there.

  • Is the Jet class also unlimited? If someone showed up with say, a T-38, could they race it too?

  • CAN"T land on centerline of runway

  • a 6-time astronaut and former fighter and test pilot.. he has more qualifications in his pinky finger than you'll have in 9 lifetimes, dumbass

  • so what? he can turn left?

can land on centerline of runway.

  • That's nothing, I could do that! in a flight sim ;)

    Incredible!

  • Very nice!

  • thnx 4 sharing
