Saw these guys in Manchester UK Free Trade Hall supported by Blondie(who were awful). They were astounding. 30+ yrs on and I'm not 20 anymore. Its still good and hey, its theirs to do what they want with it!
@richypike They never claimed to be "punk" - that was just corporate America trying to put a label on them. They, along with the Talking Heads, were always far more intellectual and nuanced than, say, the Ramones or Blondie (both of which I also dig).
i realize how truly smoothe he is on the guitar. its so funny when people who like BB KING and all that traditional stuff bad talk tom, because it doesn't sound like anything else and so they get scared.
you are totally right! john lloyd did not appear at this show with tom verlaine. he was ill. the show was thus a tom verlaine show which is ok but lloyd's riffs were missed. i was there up front.
I love this slow version of prove it...It was sooo awesome when they did this...Tom Verlaine said this while introducing the song: "This is a cover version of one of our oldest songs..." Certainly is very different

It's just not the original. This sounds more like an OAR song or something--I don't like that. I miss the 1970's New York Television.

You need to hear the album version of this song if you haven't. This recording/performance doesn't really cut it.

@greatgrape4123 Name is Richard Lloyd. Jimmy Rip filled in for him. This is a fascinating version of Prove It - love both this and the original!

I love this "cover" of Prove It. Tom is truly a natural musician.
