  • Great feel, and very cool guitar.

  • I had 2 Specials from the early 90's and they came with P100 stacked humbuckers.

  • To the guys interested in a do it yourself guitar project, Warmoth is great but I emailed them and they told me that they don't do TV yellow.

I wanna do an SG with 3 p90s (well 2 p90s and one of those les paul custom "staple" pickups in the neck), vibrola and long tail piece with all rosewood neck but I think I'd have to get the TV yellow finish from somewhere else.

  • I was skeptical when I opened the vid as normally these guitars don't sound great but this guy has really found its g-spot. Nice sound.

  • @sludgefingers have you ever played a late 50's LP jr or special? 9 times outta 10 they sound awesome. this guy is just better than most people who bother posting to youtube

  • Very good at bringing out that guitar's Mojo.

  • toooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooone

  • @anothergoodnight Exactly the same reaction. Haha. Sort of mock californian accent on it.

  • Too bad it has a tuneomatic instead of a Badass bridge. The "upgrade" tunomatic probably takes $2000 off the value of the guitar. Nice, playing, tho. Thanks for posting

  • I can judge by the awkward hole in the guitar that the tune o matic wasn't stock?

  • nice!!

  • those must be light gauge strings.

  • woow, sweet tone dude!

  • That is about the best tone I have ever heard in my life.

  • if i was making a guitar,, could i get this body shape and everything, with a bolt on neck? anyone know? thanks

  • @dryice129 - go to warmoth.com - keep in mind that they're only under license from fender, so you won't have the "exact" body shape.

  • @dryice129 Can't see why not. You could probably order everything from Warmoth.

  • @dryice129 Yes you can, I am fixxing to build my own. Go on Guitar Fettish.com and you can get what you want. They have really nice kits there for only about $180.

  • What happened to the original wrap around bridge?

  • beautiful guitar great natrual tone. and to those idiots who think its beat up it almost 60 years old. it has soul.

  • What about the lack of lacquer? Can the guitar be lacquered without any problems?

  • you don't relacquer old guitars. they lose their value.

  • whats better than a 59 special

    a 59 special

    and a 59 jr

  • that DC Special's beat to shit if you ask me! haha looks like it's been on the road and through alot of playing time

  • yes it looks great doesn't it?

  • yessssss, i love old road worn fucked up guitars. they sound better and look meaner and tougher

  • somebody change the wiring on the pickups??? sounds great but out of phase

  • Show your left hand

  • How do you do that little ruff noise before playing a note? I'm guessing it's just muting the strings before the string you're playing on with another finger and strumming them too, but I'm not too sure.

  • U're guessing right.

  • you got it man. it takes a while to get it right.

  • alright, thanks.

  • I love the tone of that guitar, very smooth and warm.

You play it very well too.

    Greg.

  • those are humbuckers... right?

  • They are called P-90

    s or soapbars.

  • nice

  • Very sweet playing and amazing tone. You might check out some of my videos - I am playing a 335. Thanks for posting this. M

  • great sound! ok so what is the amp and settings? thanks.

  • That's what I call vintage. Beauitful, warm sound and oldschool guitar desing.

  • i'd love to know how to get that tone

  • absolutely cool ... i believe sound is in the hands... i am sure I could not redo this even having the same instrument in my hands

  • that was sexxy

  • I used to have one of these. Wasn't a 59, I'm not sure what year actually, probably 60s or something. Cherry Red, and I still hate myself for selling that guitar.

  • Gasho, Roshi!

  • nice .... !!

  • nice lp man i use to have a 59 with the single p90 got it from a yard sale old man owned it and passed so i got it for 150 buks!!! i sold it about a yr ago because of dam hospital bill lol dont ever tear your ligaments in your ankle while playing football or you have to sell one of your les pauls!!! thats a tip for us lp players lol

  • Beautiful. It's amazing that thing has lasted as long as it has when you see how little wood there is at the neckbody bit. I love my faded re-issue of this to bits but, boy, am I careful with it!

  • *drool*

  • i'd like to know what kind of amp he uses.

  • probolly some kind of tube amp

  • most of the great tones are from his hands, but yeah, P90's are awesome too!

  • nice makes me want to buy one.

  • Nice vibrato my good man!

  • Perfect sound.

  • sounds like bb king

  • I have a new guitar that looks just like that. Yours is cooler though cause it's original

  • i've got a alden double cut and it sounds really nice. i think it has p-90's

  • dude, WHERE THE FUCK CAN I GET THOSE P-90's????? a dude has either got to be stupider then shit, or just a horrible guitarist to not realize that these r like THE greatest pickups EVER made

  • Wicked! Sounds beautiful my friend.

  • is this the original 1959 issued or a relic made looking guitar?

  • you have the sound of zeppelin 3 man. incredible. sounds like a 52' tele =]

  • Outstanding playing and tone..you really hit the spot at 0:43

  • i've got a boner.

  • me too!!!!!!

  • sounds nice.

  • are those p-90 or p-100 pickups ?

  • well if its a 59......

    P-90's.

  • great!!!!!!!!!!!!sound!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • must be worth a fourtune now.

  • lindo som! Brazil

  • That's the first one I've seen with the neck pickup right up on the neck. They moved it (the PU) later on because on a few the necks would come off—because of the lack of material/support between the neck PU cavity and the neck/body joint.

Very sweet guitar man. I only have a new one (Which I love).

  • sadly they don't make any 1959 reissues...i guess it's because of the fact that the necks broke right at that neck joint spot. i'd buy it anyway if they actually did reissue them someday. the 1960s reissues...seem a little bit odd...with that neck pickup backed down. oh and the knob/ switch layout on that 1959 looks much nicer than this weird dispersed one on the 60s reissues.

  • Gorgeous tone, excellent playing! MORE, MORE!

  • i love it. can't get enough.

  • ta pa la caga

  • What amp are you running your guitar through? Need to know!

  • very nice

  • what a tone!

  • sounds alot like jimmy page

  • No way man, you don't know what you're talking about.

These guys don't even fall into the same category.

  • Wow... sweet tone.

  • is this a tune or improv? cna somebody tell me the name of it?

  • what a sweet tone...

  • i luv the tone

  • sustain for days!!!

  • i have the same guitar! except mines made 07 lol

  • GREAT...and it has the abr-1 + stoptail not this garbage wrap-around tailpiece.

  • Wow, every wraptail I've ever played has owned tone wise.

    They're just harder to intonate.

How can you call them garbage?

  • i wouldn't say that it owns tone wise, in the end its a matter of how you play to keep those wraptails in tune/ the strings in position while bending...well i can't.

and thats how most people feel about it...otherwise these wouldn't have been improved into abr1+stoptail. and as you know thats the "standard" on most gibsons nowadays.

but you know; "different strokes for different folks" ;-)

  • I dunno, i topwrap almost all my ABR1 type bridges to try to emulate that tone. It just adds a little something in my humble opinion. I don't have tuning problems and I bend and a lot and play hard. I agree it's personal taste, maybe "garbage" was a little harsh.

In any event, the guitar in this clip is awesome

  • thats a beast sound! and beast guitar! but the paint job isnt the best in my opinion

  • Well, it's 49 years old.

  • *blues tone*

  • dude what song is that really good job the blues is just perfect

  • that's sound amazing! keep playing!!!!!

  • p90s in that right?

  • yeap

  • gorgeous - thanks

  • That's the way to do it! What amp are you using, by the way?

  • My amplifier is "1966 FENDER VIBROLUX REVERB"

  • I'm hoping I can achieve this sound through a fender tweed clone and a single cutaway '93 special. Very nice!
