I miss classic old school Sesame Street that I used to watch when I was a little girl.Sesame Street from the 80's and 90's were awesome! The ones they make today are just...horrible! What happened to Teeny Tiny Super Guy, Barkley, Burt and Ernie and Fishy Fishy Fishy, Kermit and his news reporting, number pinball, and so many more?!
Kids do not grow up with awesome cartoons like Muppet Babies or shows like the Muppet show or Looney toons anymore like I had the blessing of growing up with. I grew up with cartoons that taught intelligent things to children and movies that were beautiful like The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Cinderella. Most of the movies today, except for The Muppets are just horrible!
Mark Thanksgiving on the calendar, WE have a new Muppets Movie coming to the THEATERS! If you dont believe me, go to wikidpedia and type in The Muppets!
I'm 28 and I love the muppets. I grew up with them, and I'm making sure my son who is 1 enjoys them too. Shows like Spongebob and Dora are just awful when compared to The Muppets and Sesame Street
@kwith The narrarator of this broadcast spoke the truth. The world truly is a sadder place without him still, even in 2011. This world has gotten more wickider in this new decade time we're living in. Jim died one month after I was born. I was born April 1990. I wish I couldve met him. His movies & tv specials with the muppets still touch & put a warmness in my heart whenever I feel sad, which is almost everyday.
@1990babyface I know what you mean. Hanna-Barbera, American Bandstand, Looney Tunes, Price is Right, Disney, Wheel of Fortune, the MDA Jerry Lewis Telethon, and of course Jim Henson. All of these amazing well known stuff we grew up on are simply timeless and ageless.
When I was a kid I grew up on the muppet show. Didn't care too much for sesame street all that much. But the muppets... I even wanted to have a dog just to name him Rowlf. When I was a kid and crying all my parents had to do to shut me up was turn on the muppets. I didn't know who jim was back then but now as an adult looking back on the show realising it was all thought up by one man. Wow... Jim you are a legend.
in 12 days,it'll be 21 years since jim henson died.ill be watching all my muppet movies & watching tribute vids on youtube.ps.where can i find all the sam & friends clips?cause some of them on this video,i cant find
@DesireDarling88 What 'Brainiac' would compare Jim Henson to a MURDERER like ADOLF HITLER?!?! The ONLY things the two have common is the initial of their last name. The number of letters in the last name and their gender. You could do that to a thousand other names! Whoever suggested such a thing NEEDS to learn their HISTORY!!
This man's work inspired me more than anything else. From Seasame Street, The Muppets, Dark Crystal, Labyrinth, and even the Ninja Turtles. I wouldn't be who I am today without him.
RIP Mr. Henson. Things haven't been the same since you died but you will always be remember as a great man who brought laughter to our homes worldwide.
My Global teacher, maybe killed Jim Henson. My Global teacher was at MGM studios when Henson was shooting the muppets movie. The date was May 9th 1990. My teacher was sick with streptococcal pneumonia. He saw Jim Henson doing a photo shoot. He walked up to Jim Henson and shacked his hand, then he coughed on him. It was not on purpose, he said he was sorry, but the damage was done. 6 days latter Henson died of streptococcal pneumonia.
My teacher still can't get over himself to this day. R.I.P
@frostyhat123 holy shit...you better hope that the guys at 4Chan doesn't find this out, find out who your teacher is, and unleash the power of the internet on him. This is some serious fucking business 0__0
@frostyhat123 No, he didn't kill him. I've read the first stages of his infection started on May 6th, three days before your teacher would have met him.
@frostyhat123 I can understand your teacher's guilt, but to be fair, it wasn't the illness that killed him. It was that Jim didn't believe in doctors and medicine. It was a terrible thing that happened and what makes it so tragic is that it was a treatable illness. Jim Henson will be missed and remembered forever for the gifts he gave the world.

He was so awesome for creating awesome puppets, but also, he was a racist person, and besides that, his earliest puppets were innapropiate, they talked smut in TV shows, but before he knew it, it was a kid's show, an APPROPRIATE kids show... still, he was so creative :)
@SuperPoisonCupcake Really? Where is your reference that shows that he was a "racist person?" That sounds like complete bullshit because his creations have always supported multiculturalism.
@stupidstuffx Neither can I. I grew up loving the Muppets on TV and in the movies. No matter how old I get I will always be a fan. Jim Henson's love for mankind was shown in The Muppets. He made life funnier and worth having a heart. He will never be forgotten.
20 years.. still miss Jim Henson. My 3 year old daughter is being schooled in the Muppets and she loves them. And how dare anyone compare them to the Beatles? LoL. The Beatles ruined rock and roll and gave birth to the music that today we call whiny emo.. Henson improved things :-)
@Smartboy8877 The Beatles diluted rock into that happy "she loves you" pop crap, but on a good note they inspired people like Ozzy to break the mold. Sure, the Beatles have their place in rock history, but as the first boy band, not as rock and roll pioneers.
@Madams1977 How dare you say that about the Beatles. They helped change rock and roll just as Jim Henson changed they way we look at educational (and even entertainment) television.
@FLPman Keep in mind though, that he thought it was just the flu and he would wait it out. And it took until less than 24 hours before his passing, for his family to finally convince him to admit himself into the hospital. Of course, by then it was too late.
Jim Henson's creations were the highlight of my life. I used to watch Sesame Street on the CBC and on TVOntario in the 80s. It hasn't been the same without him.

I'm sorry I don't usually do this, but that's not even close to how you spell familiar, I've never seen such a bad spelling of a word. Please learn how to spell.
I founf it oddly funny that the person you think can't spell, your way, English, isn't English, at all. Which means they are bi-lingual, and not only speak a different language, but write it as well. That is why I think you sounded stupid. Because stupid thoughts come from ignorant people. Take this as an eye opener to the bigger picture that there are different people all over the world, and not to jump to your conclusion, be nice ;o)
Well first off how was I supposed to know that and second who cares? If you're going to get on an English site and respond in English learn how to spell it correctly. Just because someone can supposedly speak 2 different languages and/or write 2 different languages doesn't make him God. And I don't care if my comments bore you. If they bore you then ignore them, you're the one making the effort to let them bother you.
CreepyEyeFilms, you still don't get it do you?The fact that you didn't know, you can learn from that..now that you DO know, maybe next time you won't be so petty in your judgment of others.
Yeah, that's how I could put it: Disney just tries to hard. I'm not like all "Disney killed Kermit!!" or anything like that, because then again Kermit and crew never WERE the same since Henson himself died. As seemingly meddling Disney can be, their treatment of the Muppets has been more hit-&-miss business rather than complete and utter suffering... But that's just IMO.
Honestly, I rank Jim Henson with The Beatles... they will both never be replaced, and will live in our hearts forever... he was such a good man. he would have made millions more on cable, but he let the average kid be able to watch his show
@Floridaboy7777 Amen to that brother! Henson had a dream of just making people happy. Like George Lucas, he probably had no idea what his creation was going to turn into. Interesting I should mention George Lucas in this case. Lucas originally asked Jim Henson about creating and voicing Yoda, but Henson was to busy making the next muppet movie, so he referred him to Frank Oz. I love Henson, but I think in the case of Yoda, everything fell into place too fit!
I actually remember this broadcast. I had to have been about 8 when I saw it. I was sad when he died because I liked Muppet Babies and The Muppet Show and the movies.
I've seen Disney do worse to Nickelodeon's Doug, their treatment with the Muppets isn't as bad as what they did to others. I mean at least they didn't make "Muppets Take Manhatten 2" or "Great Muppet Caper 3 and 1/2"!
I agree. I guess the same goes to Marvel, also in the hands of Disney. In fact, Marvel Productions produced some seasons of the Muppet Babies spin-off cartoon show. What's next, Toei Animation? They also produced some seasons of Muppet Babies, so I hope not.
@Jamiethewookie Whoa! Hold on now! I agree with you, but Jim Henson did not sell himself out to Disney! The sellout happened long after he died, within the last 5 years or so. If anyone sold him out, it was his children. Henson's son did take over the muppets for awhile. Perhaps his son sold out the muppets due to the memory of his father?
@Jamiethewookie True. Disney, under Swan...Eisner was GREEDY! When Jim died, Disney kept using the muppet characters before the deal was finalized. SWAN, from a character created by Brian DePalma, stands for Sadistic, Warped And Nasty. That describes Eisner to a T.
@ReesiePuffs64 Thanks....but who am I being too nice to? Eisner or Swan? My 'husband' , Winslow, might take exception to the latter. Ha, ha. S.W.A.N. = Sadistic.Warped And Nasty. That describes Eisner, who tried to steal Henson's legacy from Jim's kids.
@ReesiePuffs64 WORSE?! Considering what SWAN turned out to be, that's pretty darn scary!!! As far as my marriage to 'Winslow'.... widowhood isn't great. Especially since deceased songwriter's wives don't get a widow's pension. ;) ha, ha. On the bright side, I did get to hug William Finley at Phantompalooza.
Actually The Witches by Nick Roeg was his last. He was still promoting that film before his untimely death. I also believe someone say he developed the concept for the TV series Dinosaurs. So he was still busy.
He was only 53!! That is even sadder. He deserved to live on even longer and make his creation grow even more. I guess it's true that the only the good die young.
And what does Disney do with the Muppets? T.T Make a crappy variety show with them and those kids from The Suite Life. And the Henson Company itself has only mande horrible 3D animated movies. sigh...
it's horrible.. but they own them, and because of that i will always give them another chance to do the right thing
from what i've read on the new muppet movie and other like projects...i'm hopeful that muppets will return to their people personas instead of the novelty act that disney has made them into.
Actually they don't. After Muppet Treasure Island fizzled. The Henson family sued the company for cashing in on the Muppet name and as a result broke ties with Disney in '95. My guess was Jim was in need of financial backing since his TV projects The Storyteller and the Jim Henson Hour didn't do very well.
not sure what this response was too. haven't commented on this in a while
but he didn't need financial backing at all.. he wanted to have the muppets at disney.. and tend to other projects.. he felt that they could be immortalized there like other disney characters...
jim henson gone but not forgotten. we miss you mr henson. may we see you in heaven one day. you left quite a legacy for us and our children nieces and nephews. may god bless you jim henson.
Jim Henson was a great man I grew up watching Jim Hensons the StoryTeller Sesame Street the Muppet Show Fragglerock and other movies of Hensons such as the Dark Crystal and Labyrinth as well as the Muppet movies he was a great man and will be remembered forever he created great characters that are loved by many children
I remember being so god damm fucking sad when I heard Jim Henson died I did not masturbate for a two days.. I have not thought about that lucky bastard for years but then that mutherfucking American express commercial!!!!!

No, because your petty thoughts bore me.
I founf it oddly funny that the person you think can't spell, your way, English, isn't English, at all. Which means they are bi-lingual, and not only speak a different language, but write it as well. That is why I think you sounded stupid. Because stupid thoughts come from ignorant people. Take this as an eye opener to the bigger picture that there are different people all over the world, and not to jump to your conclusion, be nice ;o)
rpowarz 2 years ago
Well first off how was I supposed to know that and second who cares? If you're going to get on an English site and respond in English learn how to spell it correctly. Just because someone can supposedly speak 2 different languages and/or write 2 different languages doesn't make him God. And I don't care if my comments bore you. If they bore you then ignore them, you're the one making the effort to let them bother you.
CreepyEyeFilms 2 years ago
CreepyEyeFilms, you still don't get it do you?The fact that you didn't know, you can learn from that..now that you DO know, maybe next time you won't be so petty in your judgment of others.
Go, you can have the last word.

Disney has tried a bit too hard to make the Muppets funny and robbed them of some of their humor, haven't they?
NaiTaiDai 2 years ago 5
Yeah, that's how I could put it: Disney just tries to hard. I'm not like all "Disney killed Kermit!!" or anything like that, because then again Kermit and crew never WERE the same since Henson himself died. As seemingly meddling Disney can be, their treatment of the Muppets has been more hit-&-miss business rather than complete and utter suffering... But that's just IMO.

Jim Henson has affected the lives of many children throughout the years and has left us with an irreplaceable legacy... Thank you for this post

Honestly, I rank Jim Henson with The Beatles... they will both never be replaced, and will live in our hearts forever... he was such a good man. he would have made millions more on cable, but he let the average kid be able to watch his show
Floridaboy7777 2 years ago 97

The worse thing he did was sell the rights to Disney :(
He was still a legend though

heh leave it to disney to ruin something great
areeb10000 2 years ago 6
I've seen Disney do worse to Nickelodeon's Doug, their treatment with the Muppets isn't as bad as what they did to others. I mean at least they didn't make "Muppets Take Manhatten 2" or "Great Muppet Caper 3 and 1/2"!
Pooleman96 2 years ago 4
@Jamiethewookie just like the beatles sold out to michael jackson! wtf is wrong with the most brilliant people on this planet!

I agree. I guess the same goes to Marvel, also in the hands of Disney. In fact, Marvel Productions produced some seasons of the Muppet Babies spin-off cartoon show. What's next, Toei Animation? They also produced some seasons of Muppet Babies, so I hope not.

@Jamiethewookie Did henson do that or the guy after him?
mysim20 1 year ago
@Jamiethewookie disney didn't ruin it disney kept the ledgend going for as long as it could untill it no longer was popular
silverthehedgielover 1 year ago
@Jamiethewookie Whoa! Hold on now! I agree with you, but Jim Henson did not sell himself out to Disney! The sellout happened long after he died, within the last 5 years or so. If anyone sold him out, it was his children. Henson's son did take over the muppets for awhile. Perhaps his son sold out the muppets due to the memory of his father?
messageofthemaker 1 year ago
@Jamiethewookie True. Disney, under Swan...Eisner was GREEDY! When Jim died, Disney kept using the muppet characters before the deal was finalized. SWAN, from a character created by Brian DePalma, stands for Sadistic, Warped And Nasty. That describes Eisner to a T.
MrsWLeach 1 year ago
@MrsWLeach
Dude! Comparing Eisner to Swan from Phantom of the Paradise? Wonderful comparison, but sadly that's still being nice.
ReesiePuffs64 7 months ago
@ReesiePuffs64 Thanks....but who am I being too nice to? Eisner or Swan? My 'husband' , Winslow, might take exception to the latter. Ha, ha. S.W.A.N. = Sadistic.Warped And Nasty. That describes Eisner, who tried to steal Henson's legacy from Jim's kids.
MrsWLeach 7 months ago
@MrsWLeach
Oh, I just meant that Eisner was even worse than you made him out to be. And you're married to Winslow? Um...how is that working out?
ReesiePuffs64 7 months ago
@ReesiePuffs64 WORSE?! Considering what SWAN turned out to be, that's pretty darn scary!!! As far as my marriage to 'Winslow'.... widowhood isn't great. Especially since deceased songwriter's wives don't get a widow's pension. ;) ha, ha. On the bright side, I did get to hug William Finley at Phantompalooza.

I think ninja turtles could be his last.
But do you know the live action of the Ninja turtles tv series. Was supported by the company
of saban who made the power rangers series.
But has been cancel :( Lucky they appear on Power rangers in space right?

Actually The Witches by Nick Roeg was his last. He was still promoting that film before his untimely death. I also believe someone say he developed the concept for the TV series Dinosaurs. So he was still busy.

He was only 53!! That is even sadder. He deserved to live on even longer and make his creation grow even more. I guess it's true that the only the good die young.
Basssinger86 3 years ago 2
And what does Disney do with the Muppets? T.T Make a crappy variety show with them and those kids from The Suite Life. And the Henson Company itself has only mande horrible 3D animated movies. sigh...
JHyman92 3 years ago
it's horrible.. but they own them, and because of that i will always give them another chance to do the right thing
from what i've read on the new muppet movie and other like projects...i'm hopeful that muppets will return to their people personas instead of the novelty act that disney has made them into.
FLPman 3 years ago
We can only hope... just hope.
JHyman92 3 years ago 2
Actually they don't. After Muppet Treasure Island fizzled. The Henson family sued the company for cashing in on the Muppet name and as a result broke ties with Disney in '95. My guess was Jim was in need of financial backing since his TV projects The Storyteller and the Jim Henson Hour didn't do very well.
acholl980 2 years ago
not sure what this response was too. haven't commented on this in a while
but he didn't need financial backing at all.. he wanted to have the muppets at disney.. and tend to other projects.. he felt that they could be immortalized there like other disney characters...

there was a picture on life magazine with Kermit looking down sadly in jim's empty directors chair. It was a sad goodbye.
It was also the first time I flew and I read one long article and we landed.
Besides the muppet stage at disney the muppet partnership appears to have fizzled.

I remember that magazine, so sad.
I hope Disney does bigger things with the Muppets.

i whole heartedly agree. And it's such a comfort to know others out there still feel that way.> Glad we have youtube to give each other support.
And above all, i think we should heed jim's legacy, and strive to great things and be great people in our own lives..
it's what he would've wanted

I nver met Jim in person before, but he was there for me while I was growing up. To me he was more like a member of my family rather than a celebrity.
Rest In Peace,
