I love the yo-yo ability! It's versatile, stylish, and comboable. I'm not a fan of tool-assisted runs, though. I like seeing what's possible within the realm of on-the-spot gameplay
At least a while ago I saw that someone had already uploaded such a run; it had to be split into two parts, and frankly it looked as boring as I think it would be to do.
For this reason there's also a handful of weapons I'd never use, like Sword and Cutter.
I think that the only thing impairing my time in Super Star Ultra compared to this is the fact that Nintendo made the time between where bosses can take damage larger over time... Uber tedious....
Are you sure? Bosses have varying invincibility frames based on the weapons and attacks you hit them with, with the exception of Dedede who has an enormous block of them every time he takes damage period. This is all on the SNES of course. You can clearly see the difference with Whispy Woods. TAC can hit him much more quickly than Plasma WC shots.
Anyway, it seems absurd that they'd do something like that because Yoyo isn't particularly strong, just spammable.
Curious... Maybe the moves just do less damage or take longer to hit. The invincibility frames are tedious for Meta Knight and Whispy Woods. And Main Cannon #2 (Who's name was also changed from Combo Cannon) is hard to attack with strong physical moves because if you get too close, or even touch the cannon part of it, you get hurt. WTF?
The only way I could justify that is if the cannon tilts way back much more, to give you a few seconds to stand at the base and wail on the round portion. Otherwise it defeats the purpose of using things like Suplex or Jet against that boss.
Right. Slow but strong moves are effective on it. My strategy with Jet on it is to do the jet cracker on the bottom of the cannon which will spread out to hit the main part twice. Then, as it fires its laser (SHOOP DA WHOOP!) I hover above it and let the jet fuel do the rest. :)
I was referring to the main cannon, not the one that fires the laser. Do they let you stand under the upper cannon when it rolls back around and points to the left?
Well, with Jet, I just hovered over the cannon until it died, but that hand get in the way sometimes, making it tedious still. Suplex, you've got to be in the right spot, or the item won't hit, and the time the cannon reloads is about the same, maybe quicker.
Before with certain bosses(Fatty Whale and Heavy Lobster come to mind) I was able to go on an aerial swing rampage as I whacked them while moving backwards with them... I hope that made sense.
Anyway, the point is that I can't swing continually in KSSU, I have to wait a bit otherwise I'll hit the boss in their invincibility frames. Only boss that doesn't seem affected by this is Computer Virus... maybe a few others.
Yeah, it's really noticeable with TAC in KSSU. It hits MUCH slower. Like a good half second between hits. Probably a good thing cause it was broken as hell, but I so loved TAC for it.
The game play was flawless and the timing was just perfect.
I thought i was a good gamer but you put my ass in shame, I also made a video of kirby with the yoyo ability but my shit cant even be compare to your great work.LOL
I envy your ability to play, keep it up... Ill be looking forward to your next video.
Must've been on the Brawl board or someplace. As for how I found your run, someone was talking about IWBTG months ago and it made me curious, and eventually I stumbled upon one of your segments amongst a bunch of failed attempts and such.
Thing is, I only noticed your name a day ago, which is why it clicked reading your comment this morning. Heh.

Any chance we might see a no-power, no-partner run in the future? I'm curious as to how quickly Kirby can beat everyone going utterly alone.

I don't think there is an opening DRnago.

Isn't there an Arena opening?

What are you talking about?

A cutscene. There is one in the DS version.

Do they not let you stand directly beneath the cannon anymore?
Zarmwhirl 3 years ago
Nope. It's so stupid!

Yeah. Killing the cannon with a power is now tedious and annoying. Still a good game, though.

I'm certain - hitstun in KSSU has been modified.

Thanks, but keep in mind it's a TAS.

That was awesome when you caught attacks from the Knight and Dragon.

Hey, you're the man behind the I Wanna Be the Guy VH run. Impressive work my friend. It eventually inspired me to TAS a rom hack of MM2.

Really? Wow, it's crazy how well-known I seem to be sometimes. People seem to know about my stuff in the least expected places.
Well, I guess it IS youtube, but still. I found this through your sig on gamefaqs.
